This video is worth a thumbs up because I already have sets of universal sockets and adapters so I don't have to buy anything new!
slowformula hahaha glad you enjoyed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hit that like button as soon as video loaded cause I knew it would be good! Don’t have many universal sockets but tons of the adapters. Need to get some sockets. Thanks for the links!!!
Shane thank you that means a lot and ya I wasn’t sure when I first bought these but after owning them. I was happy I purchased them
Thanks for the video Tony.
They both have their place in the tool box.
If it's not broken fix it thank you and yes I agree 👍🏻
I keep looking at that Astro set on the Amazon page and will eventually pull the trigger. I really only find my self in really confined spaces when I am under a dash and it’s always with 1/4”. But the collector in me wants everything rather it’s practical or not. Just bought a wright 3430 3/8” ratchet in a 1/4” body. What an amazing tool that will be displayed in the top of my tool cart. I don’t know how all this happened but Tony the Technician isn’t helping my problem. Enabler!!
Trucker88 hahaha I know what you mean. Lol I’m just trying to help you out
Great video, I prefer the universal sockets for the height difference and less likely of the socket coming off the joint compared to the universal adapter during those weird angles in a tight spot.
miguel mendez very true and you make a great point
If you can find deals these are a great thing to have gives you options. Great vid sometimes having a tool slows completion of a project and not leading to disappointment.
John Gibson very true. Thanks for watching and commenting John
Another great video. I prefer the universal sockets in chrome and impact. Universal joints work for me only with long extensions. I use a universal deep socket on spark plugs on older engines. My take.
David Walle ya very true and they can be great for spark plugs around headers 👍🏻
on my car, I've found one situation that absolutely requires universal sockets. For the bolts that connect the downpipes to the exhaust manifolds, there's so little clearance between them and the buldge for the pre-cats, with so many other things in the way, that there's no other way to get at those nuts without pulling the whole engine out of the car.
How often do you run into situations like this as a professional, where there's only enough clearance for a universal socket and a socket + universal joint won't fit?
Great video content tony!! I do like the ball type universal sockets. Usually impact rated. Great channel!!
jamie smith thank you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Those extension swivels work out perfectly for deep in engine and transmission. Don’t have to worry about dropping a socket
VENOMVETTE very true!!! 👍🏻
Great video Tony. I picked up both Gearwrench sets at a near by Advanced Auto for $30 on a half off sale of Gearwrench sets. Bell housing bolts are where they really shine. Better for clearance between bolt head and pinch welded seams of four pan and fire wall.
As far as the impact swivels, I like the pinless ones better. Home Depot has a nice set for $20?...I think. HF has a pinned set for $8. Both work great on an impact wrench with little to no binding.
Mark Hetzer yes very true and ya I couldn’t agree more. They are a life saver when getting to bellhousing bolts
Love your videos man !
rm outdoors thank you👍🏻
I have the same gearwrench in sae/metrics. When I picked them up at advanced auto parts I think it was $20 a set. Only reason I got them.
But since I have them, I reach for the universal socket vs the joint.
Walter Welch ya very true. Might as well use them when you can 👍🏻
Don't forget they make a midlength as well. I'm sure there are good reasons for all of them, i.e. you'll know when you run into it, but most of the time a socket and a wobble extension or swivel adapters seem to cover most circumstances.
DOYLECLEVERLOBE1 very very true lol 👍🏻
Great video thanks brother. I just have the universal adapters. I would like to have the sockets with the universal just haven't gotten any yet. Just like the magnetic spark plug sockets just haven't gotten any yet. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
Scott Pearson TOOLS &MORE thank you and ya those are both good sets to have.
Thanks great video and how about impact universal sockets only
Willy Queen thanks and very true. I have a couple and didn’t even think about including them.
Why a 12 pt impact
Anthony Clancy 12 point fasteners. That and rusty or corroded 6 point fasteners you can use 12 pt on them a little easier
The universal sockets, can get them in external torx too.I have the E8 and E10 universal sockets in 1/4 drive on order from snap on.
Walter Frederick very nice. I just have the standard e torx. I guess I couldn’t justify myself getting the universal version since I personally hardly ever use them. Let me know what you think of them once you get them
I will, needed them for a 2003 Cadillac cts to get to a couple bolts.Got by without them.I will have them now.
Heat shrink instead of electrical tape works very good. Make sure you buy a good name brand heat shrink with glue in the inside.
JOSHUA GARCIA very nice that is a good idea as well 👍🏻
sweet 12pt universals!!
Yota Doug's Tool Collecting Channel yes very handy. Especially with bellhousing bolts and stuff when they use 12 pt
I feel I had to swing back around to this video, with a couple of points. 1) Couldn’t you put stubby sockets on a swivel to achieve the same low profile characteristics? 2) Impact swivels appears to be shorter than standard chrome ones. If you did the same with those, wouldn’t they be even shorter? 3) To add to #2, impact universal sockets seem like they wouldn’t be worth it on their own because they’re simply attaching the standard swivel to each socket because the pinless design is that much more compact, you could easily do that yourself. You did mention saving money for the DIYer. 📊🧐
The the universal adapters with a shallow socket is not as shallow as the universal sockets so if tight spaces is what you need this for then the universal sockets would be best because they are shorter and have a smaller profile then the impact version and universal adapter and socket combo. But if your not worried about to tight of spots then the impact ones are great bc even though they are a little bulkier you can get them in many different lengths. So they all have pros and cons it all depends on the situation you find yourself in most needing them
Hey Tony nice post. I do have chrome flex sockets in 3/8 drive. No 1/4. Im thinking about an impact set in 3/8. I bought the smaller gearwrench set, Wish i had gotten the bigger set with the flex in impact. I have seen a nice sunex flex impact set. I should look at the 1/4 inch drive impact as well i did get myself a nice new 1/4 impact cordless
Martin Schaffmeir very nice. Which 1/4 cordless impact did you get. And ya the sunex ones are nice
@@TonyTheTechnician i bought a snappy, my driver made me an offer i couldn't refuse, he handed it to me said 160.$ pay me when ever.
Martin Schaffmeir that’s an amazing deal 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@TonyTheTechnician i thought so a bit more than a Dewalt i was looking at, it turns out one of the Dewalts 1\4 inch impacts isn't very good, i have a Dewalt drill, charger and two batteries that seems fine
Martin Schaffmeir do you know which impact this is that’s not so good. I have an impact driver that one channel is saying is bad but I have had no problems with it.
I’m on a tight budget. But them nice universal socket are nicer. I will stay with my universal attachment
JOSHUA GARCIA ya they are nice but ya you can definitely do without them
If you want a premium-grade universal socket or adapter and don't want to pay through the nose, stick with Gearwrench. Apex Tool Group owns Gearwrench and manufactures their stuff... but they also third-party brand sockets and ratchets for Matco. Their X-Core line of universal sockets are top-of-the-line stuff. Compare the prices to Matco, and they'll sell themselves. I did a quick ratchet comparison video: czcams.com/video/5USunIl3Ptg/video.html
Coyle Tools ya I always buy Gearwrench before anything Matco. I have the exact same ratchets from your video.
Somebody needs some ‘Tussin!
STEVE indeed lol well not anymore. I made this video like a month ago.
Not walking the dog this time!!
Trucker88 hahaha nice 👍🏻
😒 sure, everyone pu maybe 8,10,12,13,14,15 🙂
MrSammy 👍🏻
they bind so bad, I prefer the universal impact sockets my self
Kevin Avery haven’t had many binding problems but I can understand why you prefer the impact ones
@@TonyTheTechnician i'll have to send you a video of my issues with them, thanks for the response, keep up the videos
Kevin Avery thank you 👍🏻
