I think they were gonna pitch to hbo but decided to do abc because they thought they could do prime time.
@@ryworze3190 that’s a pretty dumb move 😂 I know HBO wasn’t nearly what it would become years later, but it would’ve been a way better situation instead of the “family friendly sitcom-based major network” that leaned were about to lean on shows like ‘Boy Meets World’ for the next decade
That Tom Brokaw sketch was one of my all-time favorite pieces when I was a kid. Seeing it again takes me waaaaaay back!
They may not have shown that Gerald Ford death sketch on the Dana Carvey Show, but he did it on SNL One of the funniest SNL sketches ever, and Stephen Colbert wrote it!
Anyone else wish that show kept going a bit more? I could see myself binging a few seasons 😄

I think it was one of those shows that would have found its audience around its 2nd or 3rd season, before then it would have been a small select audience.
Ironic that Ford finally died in a kitten juggling accident at a small roadside zoo, and was eaten by the enraged animals afterwards.. All *except* the wolves.

it's not an 'idea'. It is what news organisations actually do with obituaries. You think the NYT hasn't already written obits for famous and elderly artists, politicians etc? Indeed they have.
Dana actually did end up using this exact sketch when he hosted SNL after the Dana Carvey Show was cancelled. Since they never aired it, it was new to the audience.

From that show I will always recall one monologue in which Dana Carvey got audience questions, and one of them asked if JFK traveled time to kill himself because he was the antichrist. I never found that clip and I never forgot it!
