Ms Dutt, to be sexually oriented differently in a country like ours, to be able to own up, to be able to add humour in all the insults thrown at you, to be constantly attacked by media and people, to be able to take charge of yourself, to be honest, IS a sign of bravery.
Just because Karan Johar's struggles are different from Kangana or anyone else doesn't mean that he doesn't go through anything.
Their struggles were different, how they dealt with it is different we can't applaud one and question the other.
I think Karan Johar is brave too. His humour inspires me, it inspires me to add humour in the toughest of situations.

For the first time, Barkha pissed me off with the way she treated Karan. I love Kangana, I am a passionate feminist, BUT , I also see Karan Johar's side in this nepotism debate. Just because he's Yash Johar's son doesn't mean his life has been easy. Unless you have lived someone's life, you cannot assume it was easy. Nobody knows what battles someone has fought and what goes on behind closed door's in someone else's life. I'm not sure how Barkha can claim Kangana had no sugar daddy, when she herself has admitted to having affairs with several married men in the film industry.

Karan is clearly bothered by Kangana incident. If one of the big Khans or Kapoors had said what she said then Karan wouldn't react this strongly because it's bad for business. This guy will say anything thats good for businrss and everything he says has to be taken with pinch of salt.

Karan's films are mostly larger than life and more dramatic than real life. so, people use their own words when they find any similarity or unfortunately any similarity which resembles someone's own worst experience. I think the most problem is people always tend to compare or relate themselves with film characters and mostly in negative things not any positive. Take anything inspiring and leave others if it does not really affect deeply anyone's life. who asks to relate each and everything with your and other's life?

  • @cianadsouza

Apart from karan johar, everyone constantly picked up on shivam to conclude eventually that all karan johars films have so far been sentimental and exciting. Although they kept saying we must respect shivam's opinion, at the end, it seemed as if people were correcting him in the pursuit of undoing what shivam actually said... Like, leave that poor guy for being honest. And i think apart from shivam, there was another man who asked a question of how he makes movie, from an entertaining or pragmatic perspective, that seemed almost close to what shivam wanted to ask

I agree and stand with Kangana on the Hrithik controversy. But I dont understand why she is creating this nepotism issue. In general, it is OKAY to seek help from family/friends. They help you get a job in real life, why is it a different scenario for film industry? How is it Karan Johar's fault that he was born in the fraternity? That doesn't make his journey less important than hers.

I think Barkha Dutt was being biased. If Kangana can have an opinion why can't Karan? Why should his status stop him from having an opinion?
Hats off to Kangana for being a self-made woman but does that mean everyone is supposed to applaud her? Does that mean everyone needs to agree with her?
If she is going to attack someone then be ready to be attacked by the other. If she has an opinion so could the other.

True .... so true..... I don’t know if you ever get a chance to stay updated on the trends on this side of the border, but a latest example of what you are saying was; last year. there was a slogan trending and sort of headlining the annual women’s day and the women’s March, 2020 “mera jism meri marzi” (my body my choice) and the entire sociopolitical fraternity was divided and polar opposite to each other with zero middle ground literally. So much so that there were heated debates in both houses. In the most prominent debate on primetime, a pro-slogan activist “marvi sarmad” interrupted the famed anti slogan screen writer “khalil Qamar”. And what he said in return to that was just disgusting. I mean to Stoop as low as getting personal and body shaming !! and I was just amazed at how there was a group of people that still had an ear and acceptance for his opinions how “feminist” and “pro-rights” he tried to make them sound...

Only here for Karan Johar. You learn a lot when you hear him. Poonam just said what I strongly feel too. Kabhi alvida was actually very ahead of its time keeping the audience of that time in mind. If Karan Johar makes it today again with some changes. It's gonna work, the generation today is more accepting of themselves, others and the truths and they are more real. It was not endorsing cheating but just sometimes you can't do anything about it. One not being happy in a marriage hurts both the parties, then why drag such a thing. You cannot and should not deny yourself of the happiness or make the other person free to find their own. The plot was not bad, movie may have not been well made that's it.

I want to ask both Barkha and KJO some questions. Why should someone like Shivam ask only questions that are pleasing to KJO's ears? Why was the guy Shivam picked on so much by the elite audience and made fun of ? Who is Barkha to instruct everyone to ask ONLY amicable questions right before the questioning began ? Why was KJO pissed bcoz his films were called bad ? Maybe some find heroines in chiffons and heroes making sweeping gestures with hands and incessant weeping in the films bad and want something more bcoz in his interviews KJO COMES ACROSS AS AN INTELLIGENT GUY! That guy Shivam was in one way complimenting KJO and asking him honestly why don't you make something more on par with your level of intelligence! Instead of understanding that KJO is asking him r u a trade analyst and it slips from the poor guy's mouth that Barkha has instructed all to ask only pleasant questions ? Does this not show the ego of the journalist and the director, that they cannot BEAR critcism and ONLY want praise ? They picked on Shivam like miffed vultures till the right end! I was actually enjoying the parenting and Kangana questions but this made me feel sad. Both Barkha and KJO need to chill.

I think kkhh suited the era in which it was made.People's views change with time. Are not many of us guilty of loving the movie then at the first place ?We are questioning it only now.
Also,he nowhere said he got insulted by that line.He said ,no one is supposed to condition person of any gender to behave in a certain way. It is cruel how as a kid ,he had to face mockery and abuses. My very good friend from school committed suicide for the same reasons.

BANNER not closed captions keeps coming across the screen Diamond shape stats The Town Hall. Then banner scrolls out to the right with quotes from interview. Quite annoying as it never quite matches the topic being discussed. I know it's the Town Hall and I can hear the discussion; so I don't need the banner.

Barkha dear if Karan is your friend why you invited Nd asked kangana about nepotism Nd karan, friends don't do that. Nd y to give so much importance to sexuality Nd ask public figure to come out whereas media can make society aware Nd make it acceptable. As a journalist u must be knowing power of media.
