I just can't help but think people are being hypocritical demanding public personas to be vocal just about this one conflict. No one gave this sort of response to the current war between Russia and Ukraine, or the civil war in Syria and all the other wars and conflicts we are experiencing. Why now? Where was this kind of support for Gaza earlier? The conflict has been going on for years. I just can't help but not take people seriously that suddenly *demand* public support for Palestine. If she wasn't vocal about any other war or conflict why demand her to be vocal about this one?

    • @genuinerodent5243

@@josefinarivia Thats not true at all.
Plenty of people want the people they admire to speak on issues that are important to them, wether it's the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict, the Isreali-Palestinian Conflict, Civil war in Syria, the genocide in the Congo or any other humanitarian crisis. If your platform is built on the discussion of progressive issues then your viewer base expects (not a particularly nuanced answer) but an answer, at all on problems in the progressive sphere.
This issue is particularly concerning to Americans for a number of factors (I can't list all of them) which includes:
      1. The American governments continued financial and dipomatic support for Israel
      2. The multiple countries throughout the world in direct support or direct non-support of Israels actions
      3. The public misinformation and propaganda spread by the Israeli government
      4. The public documentation of this conflict and how its most effecting the victimized group
      5. And more
While we should hold space for other humanitarian disasters, there are a number of reasons why the Palestinian plight, recently, is so highly recognized and discussed.
When someone learns about an issue doesn't change the validity of their solidarity. It doesn't matter if someone is ignorant on immigrant, lgbtq, or reproductive rights. What matters is what they do with the information on those topics when that person recieves them. People shouldn't be shamed for when they're educated on a certain issue, doing so invalidates genuine advocacy for these things.
Your position is bs and only permits ignorance

I think it’s not that deep. She just shouldn’t have spoken out so ardently about the power of speaking out if she wasn’t then going to speak out on something that’s huge as what’s happening in Gaza.
She could probably have gotten away with saying nothing if she only spoke out occasionally on issues that mattered to her because she’s not wrong she probably isn’t the right person to speak out. However her past words have kind of trapped her.

Agreed expect I disagree with the "should she have posted something about resources on how to support Palestine". Basically if she speaks out and chooses either side she will get backlash, but if she's silent she's also backlash. Speak about about the things your educated on, being silent on things you don't know much about is fine. And we should be looking at experts and people who are very educated on the topics, not the loudest voices influencers. Content Creators don't need to get into any drama, and they don't need to have to get involved in any of this. Brittany doesn't need to speak about these issues, and I feel terrible for her getting peer pressured by people and I hope she learns to not give into this toxic hate people are giving her, when she did nothing wrong. I think this is a unique situation compared to maybe other social justice issues where someone can make a difference without necessarily talking about it online, because what Palestinians are largely asking for right now is for people to use their voices in any way they can so that we don't become complacent or numb to what's happening. especially considering that donating, while helpful, is not doing much right now since most aid being sent to Gaza is not being allowed in. this along with the fact that brittany is being hypocritical with her previous statements just makes it kind of unacceptable for her not to speak up about this. and I think anyone saying "influencers/comedians/celebrities shouldn't be expected to educate people" is missing the point. it's not about educating it's about amplifying voices who can educate and spreading the word about the genocide that is taking place. to be honest right now I think most of us are feeling so helpless about what we can do, so I don't really understand why you wouldn't want to help in any way you can, especially if you have a platform as big as brittany's where you could actually make a difference . like they're called influencers for a reason??

As a white woman, (In America) I find it really interesting to see these activists who only want to preform activism if they don't have a risk or direct fear for their own safety. While the victims of the actual violence they're speaking about don't have the luxury of safety, nor the soap box.
I watched an interview with a Holocaust Survivor, on Democracy Now's channel. It's titled, "87-year-old Holocaust Survivor Condemns Israeli Assault..." There is a part in that interview where she talks about how shes shocked and disgusted that nobody wants to call it as it is: a genocide. It's worth the watch.

She responded with her support, but people still go upset at her. She stayed silent, people still got upset at her. I think she picked the right option, people will always be upset with WHATEVER she chose, but she was honest and made a mistake. We forget these people are human, they don't have any OBLIGATION to us or to speak on anything happening in the world; that's just it.

It's totally okay to not speak on everything that happens, especially if you are not a part of that community and are not qualified to join the discourse. She talks about issues when she actually has skin in the game and/or actively participates in those spaces, establishing credibility. Would it be nice if she had said something and directed people to resources to support the effort? Sure, but when something is this high-profile, if you genuinely want to help you don't need to wait for a content creator to post a link. I think her private video and apology were fine because she's right; another liberal White female/person denouncing something on social media did nothing for Black lives and does nothing for Palestine - she understands that and I respect her more for it.

I think not being educated enough in a conflict does not mean you have to ignore it as it’s not happening, it’s not a black or white type of situation, you can use your platform to boost the opinions of those who are educated. I do feel like many creators (specially in the us) have remained silent in fear of being called antisemitic, as it’s the quick response that israeli supporters use to diminish any opinion against the state of israel. I still love her and think she’s great. I can’t even imagine how hard it is to navigate having such a huge platform. Glad she spoke up and glad she showed her support to palestinians.

I worry about influencers being expected to speak out on these dire topics because, as she says, nobody teaches you how to use a platform. Anyone can be an influencer, Andrew Tate is an influencer and he’s awful, and as the name suggests influencers have influence. We shouldn’t be basing our opinions on serious matters off any old influencer’s opinions, and if you are so pressed about one influencer not saying anything, then that’s a ‘you problem’.

  • @bia31187
    @bia31187 Před 2 měsíci +2

People shouldn’t even be expecting influencers who are so far removed from the reality of society to speak on these topics. What do these people know about this conflict other than what’s fed to us on the news?
Cancelling someone who isn’t qualified to speak on this kind of topic is dumb. Direct your anger at the people who started this conflict and keep it going.
