This song is bullshit! The Southerners didn't give a shit about state's rights - that was propaganda and a BIG scam! The Southern States seceded from the Union because Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first president who was openly antislavery. They then entered into a Confederacy of Slave States dedicated to keeping slavery and seeing it spread into the West. The BIG secret was that in 1860, the Southern plantation owners owed a billion dollar$ to New York City banks and NYC markets took 40% of the profits from the cotton and tobacco industry. Like their grandfathers who successfully skipped out on their debt to London banks with the American Revolution, another successful rebellion would mean they wouldn't have to pay their debt and they could move the markets to Richmond.
"Hurrah, Hurrah to the greedy bastard evil slave owners who killed 700,000 Americans".

The north had EVERY advantage from manpower to quality of equipment. Still the southern boys heavier losses on Grants army. Plus the Mississippi and Atlanta was already lost by the time Grant fought Lee.

Even in the last 30 years I've seen huge changes to what once used to be locally controlled is now run by bureaucracy. I live in what used to be James Gang and Bloody Bill's area so flying a US flag on your farm at that time was literally sticking out your neck. Missouri was largely pro-Southern and probably would have seceded if General Lyon hadn't illegally put in a pro-Union legislature after exiling the elected one.

The Empire will be there with our Southron cousins next time. If we had jumped in after Sharpsburg in '62 when the French wanted to, we would ALL be free of nonsensical foreign interference in our affairs. Still, as we say here in Britain "it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog". Not long now, Ethan. Let those Damnyankees argue amongst themselves and leave you to make a new nation. Look at Brexit-everyone who hates us thinks we're shitting ourselves, whereas we're laughing our arses off because our old enemies reach daily for a new pair of economic trousers.

danny, you might think for some reason us british used to be bitter about losing the colonies in north America but trust me...here, knowledge of the American revolution and our former colonies there isn't taught in schools. All my life up until I watched the patriot I just thought of americans as people who are just there that speak English and never thought anything else. It was only when I watched the patriot that I found out about the revolution and former colonies and decided to find out about it all. In history class at school, we're not taught anything about American history, the colonies or revolution or whatever, as its nothing to do with us as our nation. In history we were taught about the Saxons...Vikings...normans...industrial revolution...the plague, all sorts as our history goes waaay back. I have a friend who went to florida on holiday the once, he walked in a bar and there were these americans making fun and laughing about the boston tea party. They thought it would make my friend angry I guess...thought it would provoke him, or maybe it was just banter....but anyway my friend was just like "what the fuck are you talking about?" lol....
I came on here to watch this vid as I was curious to hear the song after I heard it playing a computer wargame called AGEOD's American civil war...and I like it, nice song. Not sure as to why there are ppl here that want the confederacy to come back as it just stood for slavery...didn't it?

Sort of. The CSA had a view similar to the founders, it would be considered librarian today, that the federal government should have essentially NO involvement in your daily life, it should not be able to dictate to you what you could or could not do.

@@ReformedSooner24 No, the CSA regected the consstitution and its core ideas. They did not see all men created equal under God or law and wanted to keep their slaves. Their economy was not market liberal, it was closer to a feudal one with land owners and slave labour. Their "liberty" was freedom from a federal government that did view all men as equals and stood for the industrial age and true market economy with big cooperations instead of family owned farm lands.

Gotta love South Carolina. This was the first state to take the noble stand for the right of the states to secede from the Union, as enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Even more than in the 1860's, the unbridled oppressiveness of the current regime in Washington, provides even greater impetus for the individual states to exercise this right, as the Federal Government needs to be taken down a notch or two.

Anytime someone asks me what rights were they exactly fighting for being they think it was about rights to keep slaves is completely false fighting for the right to secede is what there idea was... over taxation and wrongful treatment to southern civilians is what caused the uprising ... yes them owning slaves was the reason the government over taxed the south but people forget only 6% of southerners owned slaves and the other 94% had to deal with the consequences of that 6% so no wonder they rebelled... people need to step back and see the bigger picture.... slavery is completely immoral but my confederate ancestors were poor Texans that never owned slaves

It reflects the fact that Michael Shaara, who wrote the Killer Angels (effectively the script for the movie "Gettysburg"), was staunchly anti-lost causer and fairly balanced in his treatment of the Union and Confederacy. His son, who wrote "Gods and Generals", liked to romanticize the South and its Generals.

Yet, still divided by the ignorance of prejudging one another based on the side of The Mason Dixon Line we come from. In combat our forefathers killed one another wholesale.
