- The Bonnie Blue Flag - Gods and Generals
It's been around 5 years and I have just realized people are crazy of talking about history.
I uploaded this video because I like the melody of the song, and I am not even an american. lol - Hudba
This is set to premiere soon

Born in Alabama, raised in Illinois but raised by a completely southern family, god bless the south
Born in Georgia, raised in Arizona by another good southern family. (Us southern boys gotta stick together)
Born in kentucky Australia the rebel blood runs through my veins.

No one has mentioned the fine voice of the singer and the great arrangement of the song, , excellent presentation
Great Song!!! It does not matter to me that I am not American, I love this song. I have studied the American Civil war as I have European History, I pride myself on knowing about this period of world history and I am shocked by just how much people do not know about the South and the Confederacy and the reasons for the start of the Civil war. Great Song!!
You're right, it's a damn shame that so many have bought into the propaganda spread by the UDC and other groups spouting the lost cause myth
@@aidandowden2841Many have been bought into the propaganda spread by the North and Federal government and many of these modern day “historians”
The rebel yell will always be music to this Tarheel's ears.
So true
NORTH CAROLINA FOREVER
After watching this movie i have much respect for southerners and their course to be independent, greetings from Holland
Then you're an idiot, this movie advocates for the lost cause myth.
haven't seen this for ages but just had to check in again to look at the bonny lass with the flag, what a looker.
There is Jackson, standing like a stone wall.....rally behind the Virginians!
stonewall73448 Shot by his own men :(
yupp lol hhaa ignore the username but.... after he died my great great grand father general Garnett took over the stonewall bigergade so that's pretty cool even thoe he died at Gettysburg during Pickett's charge
Yes, I am very familiar with Garnett, Backwoods Dipper. Actually, he took over the vaunted Stonewall Brigade when Jackson was promoted. Although he and Jackson had some very serious disagreements, there is no doubt about the quality of soldier your ancestor was....and Jackson, I believe , eventually realized it.
Yup and his cousion also a general was kill during the seige of seven pines

Born as an American Southern by the Grace of God!
Away down south in the land of traitors

Each time I listen to this song, it is to remember and to honor my confederate ancestors. Honor and integrity meant something back during this period and nowadays, it means nothing at all. Plus, the song has a wonderful dancing melody to it.
There’s honor in owning another human being as property…?
Used to listen to this song all the time while studying Civil War history in high school and in college. Still do when reading any American Civil War history.
The greatest song. So beautiful to see it played in a movie made in the last 20 years.
Impressive people, those Southerners. True caviliers, like knights of old.
Nice rebel yell at the end!
Here’s to our Confederacy
Strong we are and brave
Like patriots of old we fight
Our heritage to save
Such a rousing song!
Should've hung them all
Watching from Greece.hi Sebastian.
THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN.
i can appreciate the historical significance of the song and its depiction in the film.
Epic movie and epic song.
Greetings from sweden
There were quite a few Swedes who fought for the Confederacy.
Not as many as the north, but they were still there!
Bonnie Blue Flag, battle flag of TEXAS!!!
Actually, the Bonnie Blue Flag originated in the Republic of West Florida, so it's really the battle flag of Florida...
gggkinc Florida doesn't matter, it is just a swamp full of alligators.

Better then Texas with yo big plains and lame football teams! Lol Jk I got family there, respect all of da South
***** Yeah, I like the gators, long live the South, Damn Yankees!
This song is bullshit! The Southerners didn't give a shit about state's rights - that was propaganda and a BIG scam! The Southern States seceded from the Union because Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first president who was openly antislavery. They then entered into a Confederacy of Slave States dedicated to keeping slavery and seeing it spread into the West. The BIG secret was that in 1860, the Southern plantation owners owed a billion dollar$ to New York City banks and NYC markets took 40% of the profits from the cotton and tobacco industry. Like their grandfathers who successfully skipped out on their debt to London banks with the American Revolution, another successful rebellion would mean they wouldn't have to pay their debt and they could move the markets to Richmond.
"Hurrah, Hurrah to the greedy bastard evil slave owners who killed 700,000 Americans".
I just LOVE this song!
My copy of Grant's Memoirs had order of battles, listing the southern regiments that fought on his side. As I recall, he said over 40 regiments from southern states fought for the Union.
0:52 The mustached officer is author Jeff Shaara who's father wrote "The Killer Angels" which was turned into the movie Gettysburg and who wrote "Gods and Generals" which the movie was based on.
They were smiling until Grant came along. Lee finally met his match. Such great characters in that war. On both sides.
Lee beat Grant on the field if you research it and it was lopsided very badly. By the time Grant fought Lee the Army of Virginia was short on EVERY supply. The north had EVERY advantage from manpower to quality of equipment. Still the southern boys heavier losses on Grants army. Plus the Mississippi and Atlanta was already lost by the time Grant fought Lee.
Good to see Ted Turner there in the background and thanks so much to him for giving the bulk of the funding for this fine film.
thanks for airing this video. i have always enjoyed this music and now that one can see the words it really has meaning
I’m blasting this song out my window on November 3.
That is Ted Turner founder of CNN playing Col Patton 1:18
Ted Turner being Ted Turner. Looking like a fossil in his 60's playing the role of a man who had dark hair and a beard, and was only 28 when he was killed at Gettysburg lol
He was also in the film Gettysburg for like 5 seconds before he got shot
im english, this is great
David Kincaid is playing a banjo here, he also sang a song called the Irish volunteer which is based on this tune
Very nice. I liked the way the man sang and the woman danced.
Gods and Generals was a great movie. And this is a great song.
It was a shit movie and this is one of the worst renditions of the song I have ever heard. Its down right cringy
Spirit of Confederacy can not die!
Fuck the Pigs! Stars and Bars Forever!
I hope not.
What is the spirit of the Confederacy? What does it stand for and against?
antred11 I believe the spirit sir is freedom and before you get on the slaves had no freedom kick please read a bit of history won't you. Besides thats not the freedom I am talking about. The freedom of flying whatever flag you want for example, the freedom of saying Merry Christmas without being called a Muslim hater. Those small freedoms that we are loosing on a daily basis, that is the spirit I speak of.
Now more than ever, we can wield our pride like a cleaver.
i jut noticed. it's the 2nd south Carolina string band playing. you can see them behind the singer
"We owe you Texas boys a debt of gratitude" Horrah Horrah for southern rights Horrah!
God Bless the South.
TheWolfElder God bless the constitution!
I'm from Massachusetts, but I routed for the south on this one. And they lost!!
CLP42 the Constitution died in 1865. It's a mere piece that is just paid lip service today. We no longer have federalism, just look at all the unconstitutional beauracracies that trample on th 2a, 4a, 9a, 10a, even the 1a.
GOD judged the South in the Civil War. Some more horrendous weather is called for now!
@@BradWatsonMiami God bless the South, God damn the Confederacy
"The Hunley" used this song better than this film did.
What kind of shit is this where you are not allowed to fly a Confederate flag in front of your house without every Tom, Dick, and Harry getting fucking offended but you can fly an in-your-face Mexican flag without any problem?

@@dumdummcstupid2414 Jefferson Davis and his entire cabinet died American citizens
Davis believed up to his death that secession was constitutionally legitimate and that it was justified. The main reason he escaped a treason charge was that many lawyers believed the Supreme Court would also decide secession was legitimate. Jefferson Davis did not have his citizenship restored until 1978 when it was done posthumously. There was a law passed in 1872 that took away some citizenship rights from former high ranking Confederates time.com/4802270/jefferson-davis-day-2017/

@mttmtmtm Turner grew up in Georgia and his family's from GA. His dad ran a billboard company in OH for a little while, but moved to Savannah when he was young kid. He founded his cable empire in Atlanta. There's a Y'all Magazine article about him going over his southern family history.
The longer I study this war, the more sympathetic to the cause of state's rights and how our central power has grown much, much too large as the end result to this war. Even in the last 30 years I've seen huge changes to what once used to be locally controlled is now run by bureaucracy. I live in what used to be James Gang and Bloody Bill's area so flying a US flag on your farm at that time was literally sticking out your neck. Missouri was largely pro-Southern and probably would have seceded if General Lyon hadn't illegally put in a pro-Union legislature after exiling the elected one.
Tom Servo not much known about the Missouri war. My family are all from Dent County MO. Little town called Salem which is just south of Rolla. According to my Grandpa who was born in 1899 there’s was a lot of “ bushwhacker” fighting around there. This was told to him by his dad who was a teenager when the war began
I live in Missouri and all my ancestors were confederate soldiers. so Missouri being pro southern i can confirm even to this day.
I hear you neighbor.
@@JohnnyRebKy My grandpa told me the story his Dad told him about a man he knew walking home one night and encountering a band of men on horses wearing dusters. They hung him up by his thumbs fearing he'd run to the sheriff-James Gang. Another farmer related the story of one night a group of rather shady looking men on horseback asked if they could shack up the night out in his barn and rest their horses. (He agreed-rather fearfully.) They were gone before the sun even came up. Never knew who they were.
@@janitor7929 I remember reading one pro-Southern Missourian complaining about all the Germans in St. Louis and generally statewide that were strongly pro-Union/anti-slavery. He wryly wrote that 'destroying the lager beer supply would have sent Missouri straight into the Confederacy.'
Missouri was a rather odd state-the transition between Southern and what was then called the 'Northwest' what we today call the Midwest that became a force of it's own and upset the old Southern control and elected Lincoln. It's odd, but I grew up north of the Missouri River and once moved to Lexington on the south side-it just 'feels' different there.
Hurrah! Hurrah! For Somalia Hurrah! The Props Department bought the wrong flag that bears a single star!
Mike Jones Bonnie Blue was in existence long before Somalia was even a country.
It's the wrong shade of blue. Bonnie Blue is dark blue while Somalia's flag is light blue.
Mike Jones FUCK WHIT!!.
There was variety of shades of blue with the Bonnie Blue flag--I think they chose a lighter blue to give the appearance of being weathered as natural dyes from that period faded much more quickly.
Mike Jones some were dark blue some were light blue......
Don't know about the flag but that is one bonny lass waving it about.
As a frenchman, I don't understand why they were so glad about a flag that bears a single star. The banner of the Union had so many stars ! Wasn't it better ?😊😊

over 5,000 mexicans fought for the south, 20,000 brazilians, 90,000+ irish, 9,000 spaniards. Alot of cultures fought for independence. Very interesting!
@@MrMarine006 It's too bad the south didn't allow the black people to fight for their independence. I wonder why
There were black confederates also. In Texas many rode with Terrell's Texas Calvery. Others with the Rangers. The Indians of the Five Civilized Tribes in neighboring Oklahoma also allied themselves and fought for the Confederecy. Regardless of official Confederate Congress rules on enlistment many local armies needed manpower and had only one question to anyone willing to join, " Will You Fight! ".

Greetings from Germany
I like the song, but come one people are still mad that the Union won. Forget it already, England already forgot about the revolution and now the U.S.A. is best buds with them
danny, you might think for some reason us british used to be bitter about losing the colonies in north America but trust me...here, knowledge of the American revolution and our former colonies there isn't taught in schools. All my life up until I watched the patriot I just thought of americans as people who are just there that speak English and never thought anything else. It was only when I watched the patriot that I found out about the revolution and former colonies and decided to find out about it all. In history class at school, we're not taught anything about American history, the colonies or revolution or whatever, as its nothing to do with us as our nation. In history we were taught about the Saxons...Vikings...normans...industrial revolution...the plague, all sorts as our history goes waaay back. I have a friend who went to florida on holiday the once, he walked in a bar and there were these americans making fun and laughing about the boston tea party. They thought it would make my friend angry I guess...thought it would provoke him, or maybe it was just banter....but anyway my friend was just like "what the fuck are you talking about?" lol....
I came on here to watch this vid as I was curious to hear the song after I heard it playing a computer wargame called AGEOD's American civil war...and I like it, nice song. Not sure as to why there are ppl here that want the confederacy to come back as it just stood for slavery...didn't it?
God bless the brave southern men of all colors that fought for the south.
The music of the brave
But it's good video! Glad you uploaded it.
So the confederates were basically libertarians?
TankUni
Sort of. The CSA had a view similar to the founders, it would be considered librarian today, that the federal government should have essentially NO involvement in your daily life, it should not be able to dictate to you what you could or could not do.
the worst thing the south did was become affiliated with the north, southerners should not be patriotic, they took your slaves
I mean, if you think that anarcho libertarianism should include slavery...sure lol. Obviously they were on the wrong side of capitalist history though.
@@ReformedSooner24 No, the CSA regected the consstitution and its core ideas. They did not see all men created equal under God or law and wanted to keep their slaves. Their economy was not market liberal, it was closer to a feudal one with land owners and slave labour. Their "liberty" was freedom from a federal government that did view all men as equals and stood for the industrial age and true market economy with big cooperations instead of family owned farm lands.
51TGM71 slavery was still legal in many norther states even during the war! Have you ever read the Corwin

By all creditable accounts the north lost more soldiers than the South but due to attrition e.g. having more troops and supplies to begin with the north won. However, you may want to look into the role international banking and European monopolists had on the American civil war

Gotta love South Carolina. This was the first state to take the noble stand for the right of the states to secede from the Union, as enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Even more than in the 1860's, the unbridled oppressiveness of the current regime in Washington, provides even greater impetus for the individual states to exercise this right, as the Federal Government needs to be taken down a notch or two.
twice the confederates the first time we had a better chance but jackson changed laws o prevent it

I welcome all you british folks as long as you bring Brexit with you
Anytime someone asks me what rights were they exactly fighting for being they think it was about rights to keep slaves is completely false fighting for the right to secede is what there idea was... over taxation and wrongful treatment to southern civilians is what caused the uprising ... yes them owning slaves was the reason the government over taxed the south but people forget only 6% of southerners owned slaves and the other 94% had to deal with the consequences of that 6% so no wonder they rebelled... people need to step back and see the bigger picture.... slavery is completely immoral but my confederate ancestors were poor Texans that never owned slaves
I spy the 2nd south carolina string band
good scene
Cool song but this movie sucked. Gettysburg was way better.
It reflects the fact that Michael Shaara, who wrote the Killer Angels (effectively the script for the movie "Gettysburg"), was staunchly anti-lost causer and fairly balanced in his treatment of the Union and Confederacy. His son, who wrote "Gods and Generals", liked to romanticize the South and its Generals.
johhny rebel you are so right
By far the best and most accurate movie about the Civil War ever made.
The War Of Northern Aggression started 150 years ago this April. Everyone that fought in it and survived are now dust. The generation that followed them are now dust. We are one nation now. Yet, still divided by the ignorance of prejudging one another based on the side of The Mason Dixon Line we come from. In combat our forefathers killed one another wholesale. I am a descendant of a man known as Lt. General Ullyses S. Grant, and a proud Southerner. I love the accent, and the region.
