- I've been building self bows and practicing traditional archery for many months to give my self a chance at a Texas whitetail at close range. After a failed attempt at 12 yards, I'm back again hunting a buck at close range to attempt a shot at my first self bow harvest.

I struggled for years trying to allow for space to make bow harvests in all types of situations n blinds with recurve , long bow compound n even stout cross bow you gotta watch for late stage shot after string n limb flex n contact ...beautiful arrows ..enjoy your channel n episodes big fan from way back , keep up the commitment 👏 sweet harvest!

As a guy with half Choctaw Indian blood in my veins this video is incredible to me, because I grew up watching my grandpa make his own bows and hunt with them! Congratulations on the amazing harvest and accomplishment that not many people will experience!
Congratulations on your first stick deer! You hit the aortic artery and lucked out for sure. I’ve done that once’s before on a similar sized deer and it’s a God thing. They don’t make it far at all. An awesome accomplishment sir but don’t stop diving deeper either! Keep working on that form and anchor and I see a lot of dead stuff with a stick bow in your future. A trick my grandpa tought me about putting recurve string on-
Obviously put one side on, with the bow facing you (the opposite way you shoot it) put your right calf at the grip. Then with your left shin, put it at the end with the string already on at the curve. You can then grab the non stringed end flex it with one hand and put the string on with the other. You'll end up with the bow and string around your right foot. Just step out and there you go. All you have to do is step out. It's way less work than trying to press it by hand and set the string.

This is awesome. My dad starting making self bows about 5 or 6 years ago, he’s harvested 5 deer with them so far! His Osage orange bows are beautiful. Congrats LFG!

Got my first traditional bow kill this year. Thought I hit too low but he ran about 80 yards and was done nothing beats that excitement. Congrats !!
CONGRATS! I knew you would do it. Now you've done something 99.999% of today's hunters have never and will never do. As for the shot being a bit off, I watched the shot over and over and to me, it looks like your nerves may have caused you to "choke" the bow. To me, the movement of the top of the bow on release makes me think is what threw the shot off, and was most likely caused by you gripping (choking) the bow pretty tight, which I used to have a problem with, and nerves will for sure cause you to do. Congrats again!

Glad you didnt edit around the shot and owned up to the need for more practice. Congratulations on a self-bow deer! Really enjoyed the journey and i'm sure it will continue! Maybe if you haven't already been doing so, have someone outside the blind place a full body target in different positions for you to practice from inside the blind. Also, the camera makes it SOOOO much harder but we all appreciate the shotgun seat to this adventure. Can't wait for the next one.

Congratulations man!!!! Taking a deer with a selfbow is an unforgettable experience. My first selfbow kill was a little spike buck 20 years ago, hundreds of game animals later and that is still my favorite "trophy". I see you have "blooded" your bow now too :)
