- On Saturday, April 24th, the Opera Company of Philadelphia teamed up with the Reading Terminal Market Italian Festival for a large-scale "Flash Opera" event! Over 30 members of the Opera Company of Philadelphia Chorus and principal cast members of LA TRAVIATA performed the famed "Brindisi" in the aisles of Reading Terminal Market, entertaining hundreds of Philadelphians, and proving that the perfect accompaniment for all things Italian is a little Verdi! The Opera Company sincerely thanks members of the Opera Company of Philadelphia Chorus and cast for generously volunteering their time and talents... BRAVI TUTTI!! LA TRAVIATA runs from May 7 - 16 at the Academy of Music. For tickets/info: 215-893-1018 or operaphila.org

What a fantastic way to make opera accessible and get people involved and interested. How could this not inspire someone who has never seen an opera to take the plunge? Bravo a tutti!!!
I watched this when it came out in 2010 and many times thereafter. Watched again today after a long time and it still made me happy! Wonderful flash mob! Delightful "Brindisi," my favorite opera chorus!
My mother sent this to me ten years ago because she saw it and liked it. I miss her.
I love it that people enjoy these flash concerts! They are a flash of sunshine in an ordinary day.
What a FABULOUS and marvelous way to be exposed to Opera!! how lucky for those 'caught' in the act there amidst all those marvelous voices ....I really had tears in my eyes hearing the music and watching all those folks get turned onto the chorus...!!Thanks Phil Opera company~
When I'm far from Italy, and I feel a little homesick, I use to listen to Verdi. In his music there is everything you need to know about italians
I've seen several flash mobs here on youtube and I think the classical ones are by far the best.

Amo de Paixão!
Especially the opera ones.
This is my favorite one so far! Random Acts of Culture is such a brillant idea!
What a great performance. A great way of bringing opera to the general public.
Whenever my days grow dark I come here and the sun shines brilliantly!
I still love this and watch it whenever I am feeling down or lonely.
Bravo! From Italy, land of music and love. ;)
I love this and start my mornings everyday watching. It plasters a big smile on my face!
I love this! Every now and then I come back and watch it and it fills me up every time.
Wonderful music and wonderful event!!! Thank you.
Melon Dash And so do I! I love this flash opera and I come back and watch it every month or so..,
Melon Dash i love so much Opera!
And now I want a glass of champagne!
Me too, my absolute favourite flash mob!
Yes, I do too. My eyes well up each time as I remember my mom the opera buff who grew up listening to it. I love it too because she played her opera records and filled my heart with music.
The world is not a total wasteland thanks to artistes from around the world. BRAVO and THANKS!!
How I wish I could've been there! What a joyful video, indeed. It gives me hope for humanity when I see talents shared such as these. Thanks a million!
SUPEEER !!! VERY, VERY, VERY INTERESTING !!! BRAVO ! THIS IS THE BEST ! THIS IS FANTASTIC !!! HEART GREETINGS FROM SOFIA - BULGARIA - EUROPE
This is one of the best renditions I've had the pleasure to watch.
How can something so magnificent have 88 thumbs down?
I love the green white and red, just as much red white and blue as anyone else.
I cannot believe that there are actually 9 thumbs down for this performance. Nine subhuman trolls out of more than a million viewers. It's great to note that most people, even those not accustomed to opera, burst into applause at the end of the performance. This literally brought tears to my eyes. I wish I had been there. The Opera Company of Philadelphia has some really fine voices. Bravo to all!
This isn't the first time this has been done... I seem to remember seeing a similar video done in a market in Spain. Still, that doesn't detract from the wonderful job they did here, and the amazing lift it must have given the shoppers there that day.
They also made it look and sound very easy, and in fact it required very careful planning, and of course each vocalist had to be individually "miked." I'm not a great opera fan, but I say "BRAVO" to a performance like this!
I cannot say how excited I am that this happened in Philadelphia - at th Reading Terminal Market, with a great local company and has been viewed nearly 3mm times. bravo indeed.
tears in my eyes...wonderful...thank you
That was a spirited performance.
People put your @#$%ing phones down and enjoy the moments of your lives.
i was surprised to see how many people were carrying cameras (not phones) while out on a shopping trip
@@Grisbi6 The Reading Terminal Market is really big, and a very popular stop with tourists (and locals), and this was an Italian Festival weekend at the Market. That probably explains it (but there are always people snapping photos in there).
Bravo! Art comes to the people. 200 years ago this might have happened in the public square. Very nicely done Opera Company of Philadelphia. Thank you Reading Terminal Market for being part of this. What an upbeat and joyful moment you all helped create! Oh to have been there. Loved the looks of confusion, joy, anxiety and almost rapture on the faces of the public.
Well... I'm now a fan!
I have played this four times and it puts tears in my eyes... what an incredible idea.... what an experience. WOW! Thank you to those who participated.
I guess the 76 justin beiber fans dont understand what REAL music is
My friend and neighbor, Vivian Fonseca, sent this to me three days before she died and I just listened to it tonight...feelings are best expressed through ART!
awsome. That really lifted my day. What a way to start my day. It not only brought tears to my eyes it lkifted my spirit. God has bless them all.
I agree with you natalie...I saw this vid over a year ago...I still watch it at least a few times a month...This country needs more entertainment like this... I have always been a big fan of opera.
I just saw this again and was reminded of how many smiles you put on the faces in the crowd. With everything going on in the world, this would be a great "do over"as people could use this right now.
We Americans are a great people. To have these young talented people do this at this italian festival just shows how connected we are with the love of music and living in a country that gives us liberty. We will never see this in the news where the media wants us at each other's throats. BRAVO to all the members of the Philly Opera Company, this was inspiring!
One of the smartest marketing ideas I have ever seen to open the eyes of society to Opera. Two Ginormous thumbs up!!!!
How wonderful - I would love to be surprised by something like this whilst out and about - the joy that it brings to everybody is so apparent - FANTASTIC - BRAVO
Thank you. I am a Philadelphian and love our music and market.
What a delightful surprise for the people at this Italian Market. As for me, I loved it and from the response, so did the unsuspecting audience. Bravo!!!
This is my favorite flash mob video! The singing is great, and it's fun to watch the faces of the people who are caught up in it----I can tell by looking at their reactions, whether they would be fun people to know or grumps who are annoyed by anything out of their comfort zone.
If everyday life could only be so beautiful...can you imagine? This is awesome...flat awesome!!!
This may be the 4 or 5th time watching this. The first time I watched this was maybe 9 years ago and I remember how touched I was. I shared it with my professor who was so sick at the time. He happened to be my neighbor and was the kindest person I knew. He was so moved by this and thanked me for sharing it with him. Watching this makes me miss him...He passed shortly after I shared this with him...
We spent our first vacation in over 30 years in Philly. I cannot remember when I more throughly enjoyed myself than in the Terminal Market! The sights, the sounds, the music, the food, but I wish I could have seen this!
One step closer to restoring my faith in humanity.
Well done. Thank you very much!
Just beautifull. Belissimo !
Bring the art to the people and they will appreciate it more.
Bravo Philadelphia Opera Company.
For some reason, seeing this gives me hope for humanity. No matter what evil is happening at any given time in the world, everything is still going to be ok because of the beauty that comes from the music of the human soul and humans ability to appreciate one of the few things that humans create that is actually wonderful. Thank you for this video!
the world could use lots more of this ! BRAVO !
Bravissimo!! Who does not get emotional while listening to and watching this video has no soul.
this simply breathtaking. what a privilege for the ones who attended the market that day.
I too viewed it with a smile. Opera to the people! Wonderful. How crearive. Thank you. Great music appeals to people of the world.
Bravo! I am not even an Opera fan and I was captivated by this! Wow! Like many others have said, Bravo to the performers for stepping out of their comfort zone in such an audacious fashion!
I wish I get caught in one of this someday. This is fantastic. I live in Glendale California and the only flash mob we had a few weeks ago at Amaricana was some fools breaking stuff and stealing…it sucks!
Absolutely beautiful! One of my favorites to listen to.
I love La Traviata and I love what these amazing artists did. Bravi, tutti!
I STILL love this.
I come back time to time to revisit it and it always brings me joy!
Wonderful! This had given me energy and made my evening. I love seeing the reactions of the public, close up to the singers. I well remember Welsh National Opera coming to a community college near me when I was 16/17 years old and singing excerpts from LA BOHEME and THE FLYING DUTCHMAN, which they were on tour with. It was incredibly exciting! And that excitement has stayed with me ever since! LONG LIVE OPERA!!!!!!
Combination of surprise, talent, emotion and joy.
Bravissimo
For a brief moment in time you are reminded just how incredible humanity can be, thank you for sharing.
I have seen it 5 or 6 times already and everytime I get shivers. Amazing performance
nothing like a little culture to set everybody straight-it brings absolute joy to your soul and comfort to your heart.. A positive expereience for all to share - a huge thankyou to the real genius who thought to present this magnificent piece.
I love this so much--the stunning fact of this beauty in the midst of everyday--bravo to the singers. It's so funny to watch the crowd: some are curious, delighted, others are embarrassed, go their way. i wonder what their thinking--we are not used to finding this spontaneous joy as we do our day.
a friend of mine sent me the link to this video and both times i've watched it i was moved to tears and laughter for sheer awesomeness of what they did!!! Outstanding!!!!
One of the best 'flashes' ever ! Such natural and charming interaction with the Public who seemed to enjoy it a lot. Lots of smiles which is just want we want nowadays ! And a minimum of mobile 'phones filming for once. A totally entertaining and heart-warming show. Thanks to the good folk of the Philadelphia Opera.....
These brave artists are the bridge between our greatest hopes and our ability to walk the talk in our most mundane moments, there is God in the goodness of these bold beauties! Oh so wonderful!
Absolutely fabulous! Impossible not sheding tears.
The happy grin on the guys face at 1:49 is exactly the same grin that I get every time I watch this. Its just so cool!
Bravo.First time I watched it my eyes welled up. The second time.....well the tears are still streaming down my face . The sheer beauty and the joy it brings. Thank you. Thank you artists. Thank you.
Still the Best after 2010! I love watching this because it all comes together. Bravo!!!!!
I will never tire of this video! I like when the women giggle when they are sung to.
Every time I watch this it brings a smile to my face!
GOD BLESS ALL OF THEM! Outstanding! So much fun to see real art and talent.
FANTASTIC!!! If only I could have been there, I know I would have loved it. Music really is wonderful.
I just love this. It makes me happy to watch it.
I'm Italian and I love Verdi...and I love PHILLY too❤ What a beautiful city, a place to live!!!
Absolutely wonderful!!! Pure joy...I wish I could have been there! What a tremendous gift these talented artists have!
It 'amazing to see people smiling for such a beautiful thing. Warms the heart.
Simply Brilliant!!! and on my Birthday no less! BRAVO!! BRAVO!!
This is what makes this world beautiful. Thank you for such a beautiful moment.
Just Beautiful !!! I played over and over many times.
Nothing like the opera - the mixture of voice, insturment, and composer....and then acting.....so fantastic. Love it and love La Traviata....good for Philadelphia....I sang along with it too.....(not the high notes!!!!)
How absolutely splendid! Thank you so much for posting!
Absolutely lovely. How nice to see all those people suddenly brought to life by being surrounded by glorious music!
Un dels millors FlashMob que he vist!
El millor de tot, la cara de felicitat dels espectadors.
Molt maco!!!
I wish I was there! Beautiful! It makes an ordinary day so extraordinary.
what a treat, to feel and experience that as if you were on stage with talented opera singers
This was great! Every Opera Company should do the same thing across the country!
I LOVE this video. I've watched it scores of times and I still get goose bumps whenever I see it! BRAVO!!!!! Give us an encore!
AWESOME.... one of my favorite opera, sweet and happy!!!
Well, until the second and third act.
That is AWESOME! What a way to expose people to the brilliance of this type of music!
I've seen this at least ten times and it never fails to inspire me. Simply wonderful :-)
I could watch this all day. This is my third time today. It is uplifting. It makes me feel alive. Thank you Opera Company of Philadelphia. I bet you didn't know you were ministers
I work in an industry that travels across the country and I think I would just tear up and smile and enjoy it like I did watching the video. I would personally love to be present at an event like this.
You've probably seen this before, but it always makes me smile.
This is so amazing! What music! What tremendous voices!
Behavior breeds behavior (and smiles breeds smiles). It is always good to see people happy, excellent initiative.
Loved it!! People naturally love human voices.....keep doing it!! Bravo!
What a great way to remind people of the beauty of classical music!
This made my heart smile. Thank you! I needed this uplifting story and music today!
Oh, to have been there to experience the joy! Thank you for this lovely gift that brightened my day.
These "flash" performances are really inspired acts of giving, providing their lucky audiences with not only a truly great musical treat, but the elements of enchantment and surprise. In point of fact, every moment of our lives is a gift and a surprise, but we lose touch with this basic fact and need to be reminded of it periodically
Fabuloso! What a treat for those who happened to be in the market that day! Just wonderful how music bonds us together and makes people smile! And what a great way to promote opera to many who might otherwise have thought they didn't like it! BRAVO!!!
