Beautiful! I'm fascinated by your enormous productivity. You do pottery all day, post daily on Instagram, mostly elaborate posts, and now you make CZcams videos. Thanks a lot!
Thank you! Keeping on top of the social medias is a second job for sure, I need an assistant...
Please make more of these videos!!! They’re incredibly helpful for becoming a better potter!
So pleased you liked it Sarah-thanks for taking the time to watch!
I really enjoy your narrated versions of your videos. Sometimes I can't see something until you explain, thank you :)
That's good to hear, I hope they've been useful. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch!
The hard work that you put in to all your pieces is really shown. This video really shows how precise you are with this project. The detail of the narration is deeply appreciated friend! ☺️
Really appreciate the kind words, the narration still takes me so long to record but it's beginning to feel more natural. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Using clay to make precise parts is so interesting. Ive seen someone design a ceramic fountain bowl which was interesting cause they had put in so much effort to get the fit right
When you said that you could throw a lid in some seconds- I gasped so loudly. Your work is mesmerising! So flad YT recommended me your video❤️
I'd be pretty interested in seeing a stamp carving video if you have time for it!
That's a good idea for a future video, I'll add it to my list!
@@floriangadsby Excellent!
i realize it's kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Silas Kelvin definitely, I have been using FlixZone for since april myself :)
@Silas Kelvin thanks, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I really appreciate it!!
Great demonstration!!!
Thank you!
This is such a lovely video. Thank you for sharing this process. It was a delight to watch!
Really appreciate the kind words Manjari, I've still got lots to learn making these videos so comments like that are delightful to read. Thank you!
What a wonderful video florian!
Many thanks!
Beautiful work, and very generous of you to share your techniques! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! I was in need of this video a month ago, but didn't find anything as useful as your one. But now I know where to get it. Thank you!
Thank you Daria! So glad you found it useful!
Amazing! Loving the narrated videos as they explain so much (especially for a novice potter like me)
I'm so glad! Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Thank you for these very informative, succinct videos! You are an extremely talented disciplined potter! Please keep them coming...much appreciated.
Thank you so much Diane, you're really too kind. Lots more to come! This Sundays video is practically a movie!
Es muy inspirador ver tus videos, el cuidado y el cariño con el que haces el trabajo. Me ayudan a aprender, muchísimas gracias. Thank you. Please don`t stop making videos.
This is truly fascinating to watch every single time
Hello Florian. Wow what a great work. You make it seem so easy and it is definitely a complicated process!
Many thanks Em, appreciate you taking the time to watch along.
Love it!! Thanks for sharing! I love how much effort you put in the trimming....trimming is very underestimated i think! Now i want to jump on my wheel and try a lidded jar!! 😍
Thanks so much, glad you liked it and good luck potting!
Wonderful .great video tutorial. Thanks
I'm a beginner potter and you inspire me so much! I found your Instagram page a few weeks ago and enjoyed watching your videos and it's even better with the explanation of the process :) Thanks for this!
Thank you so much Dawn, what a wonderful comment to read, I'm glad these videos are of use to you!
Lovely video, a pleasure to watch as always. Thank you for the insights, I found your advice on forming the gallery and burnishing/maintaining a smooth base particularly helpful.
I'm glad I found your channel and I'm excited to see what comes next!
Cheers Ford, so pleased to hear you found bits and pieces from this useful-there's so many tiny details in this craft. Thanks so much for watching!
A fantastic video thank you. Showing the whole process like this and with clear explanation makes it a must watch. Very clear and interesting and I'll look forward to your next video.
Too kind, thank you Lisa! I still have lots to learn with all this narration and splicing everything together, but it's good fun and I hope there's some useful snippets of information in there for those who watch.
gorgeous! thank you so much for sharing
I've been inspired by your Instagram videos for the longest time, and I love these more in-depth narrated videos too, thank you!
So glad to hear that, makes spending all the time putting these together totally worth it. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for making these videos. I truly appreciate your efforts. Have always been an ardent admirer of your pottery ..and these videos provide such detailed insight into your work!! Someday I will buy the pen and Inkpot for sure😀😀😀
I really like that clay you use!
aweSOME!!!! this video is great. love that u are finally uploading more often, keep it up! instagram videos are too short to do your work justice
you are one of my favorite ceramicists
Thank you so much - so glad to have you following along here too.
I absolutely love your work, the craftsmanship and attention skill are absurd,I love the 2 videos ive watched and subscribed
Thank you very much Wes!
I really love these things💝🌹
thanks you so much for this magnificent video.
You're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to watch.
I'm finding myself looking forward to your next video being released! Thank you & I love the narration - just the right amount :-)
Thank you Rebecca! So pleased to hear that. It'll hopefully be released tomorrow at about 5pm GMT.
very satisfying to watch this video 😳😳😳
Thank you for this wonderful video.
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Hey! great work!
Im not a pottery person but this was really cool to see. (subscribed)
That's wonderful to hear. I'm so glad you found it interesting.
inspirational! I made my first lidded jar today, lets say its not as elegant as yours, but the lid fits at least :)
The lid fitting is arguably the hardest part! So well done, my first ever jars weren't nearly all that good either, they are tricky objects to make but so worth it once all fired up and actually usable. Thanks for watching! 🙌🏼
And this is one of the reasons I dont make lidded jars: I dont hve as much patience as you do! Great gob! Love the glaze also! Thank you for the video, you make me want to sit down and rhrow every time.
It certainly does take some patience, but after a while you get used to it. Thanks for taking the time to watch along, I'm so pleased you liked it!
Thank you so much I have learnt so much from you.
Thank you Helen, so glad you've found it useful!
Nicely done 👍🏽
Cheers!
fantastic content! relaxing and informative. thanks very much, and looking forward to seeing what else you come out with.
Thanks very much Elliot - hopefully as I accumulate footage over the next couple of making cycles the videos will become more elaborate and will contain various processes, from making to firing and showing finished pieces. Lots I can do! Thanks for watching.
You are a wealth of knowledge
Very nice .
Amazing content! Thank you!!!!
Thanks so much Heidi, means a lot.
Hi Florian, the content you are posting here is so precious in terms of video demonstration and the narration. The level of detail is astonishing! Thank you!!! I have just started my first throwing lessons and I’m loving it!
☺️ Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad there's some useful snippets for you, good luck potting!
Love this. More please 😍
Good Work Florian....... from India.
Thank you!
I love it that you talk now!!
Haha, it might help me finally get better at public speaking! Thanks for watching.
God I’ve got to learn how to do this to make my own cactus, bonsai and fancy pots for specific plants. I bet I could make some mediocre stuff that would just look fantastic!
Thanks for these!
Florian, do you fire the lid separately from the pot, once glazed? Thank you! Gorgeous, simple form, excellent throwing technique, a joy to watch!
Hey! I fire the lids on top of the jars separated with tiny balls of wadding, (50% china clay, 50% coarse alumina hydrate, mixed into a clay like consistency). I make it into small disks and prop the lid up with them. After the firing they just pop off, as long as they aren't touching glaze.
@@floriangadsby Many thanks, Florian, please keep posting new videos, there are very informative. Best wishes, keep up the outstanding work!
Woww amazing, love from vietnam
Thanks! Greetings from the UK!
Detallista. Eres un artista 👌
Well done.
wow🤯
I love watching these kind of videos but your commentary ruined me for more asmr types (well, almost). Wow. It was fascinating, really loved hearing all of the reasoning behind all of the decisions you made. Can't wait to see more. Thanks for sharing your process! 😍
Luckily for you I also uploaded an ASMR version, you can find it here, czcams.com/video/I9RseGdo7ho/video.html
And I appreciate the kind words too!
you’re amazing
Watching people throw clay is hypnotizing.
Hi. Thankyou so much. Really enjoyed the process. The looped tungsten carbide tool you tak about when trimming. Where would I get one of these from. It looks a great tool. Cheers again.
Thank you so much Lois! This particular one was gifted to me by @ovo_ceramics, on Instagram. But I've just put in a big order of Bison tools, the real deal from the USA and I can't wait to receive them!
I’ve just found there site and sent an email. Thanks again. I’m just under a couple of years in as this was a journey later in life. I have a CZcams Chanel that’s doing well. When all this silliness has settled down it would be great to visit your studio !! Cheers.
WOW!!!
Good
Thanks
Hi Florian! I'm keen to know what wood you are using for your shelves and table top? Love your studio :-)
You are amazing. Can you help me with the type of dirt you made the clay from

Are these available for purchase online? Im from Southeast Asia and would really love one!!! ❤
Thanks! I sell occasionally online via my online website. My next update will be in a few weeks! (www.floriangadsby.com/shop).
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Is your trimming tool made by Phil Bison? The tungsten carbide one?
Nope! It was gifted to me by a guy on Instagram (instagram.com/ovo_ceramics), I do plan on buying some Bison tools for some early Christmas presents to myself though, I need some upgrades.
@@floriangadsby many youtubers have a "Tools" section below the video. Sponsored links. If someone uses your link you get a small amount from seller. I think it's a small revenue stream, but would rather buy the RIGHT tool the first time, so I appreciate when the links are there.
The link to Instagram didn't work, but may be my phone ?! Will pull up my IG app. & see if I can find that IG account.
I can totally see myself at the potter's wheel. I can also see the actual potter going through the stages as i do it... Wincing, flinching, irritation, glare, murderous glare, murder.
So, at 6:40, are you checking to see which lids are closest to a perfect fit for each jar, so they don't have as far to go to be just right?
I was just checking that they fit more than anything. Up until that point I hadn't put the lid onto the jar, as they were still too wet to touch, so the following morning I just put a few in place to see what they're like. If that makes sense?
What camera did you use to record this? I appreciate the focus
I've been using a Canon 5D mk iv with a 50mm 1.4 lens, it's the lens that lets me get the very shallow depths of field.
You make it look so simple. Would love to try. Going to have to find a local business for lessons
It's definitely worth a try at least, it's certainly quite unlike any other craft out there. Thanks for watching!

Thanks!
Do you have a video on how to spiral wedge?
It's in the works!
I assumed you glaze fire them separately. Is there any trick to keep them still the same fit not fired together? The studio I went to always told us to try to fire them together so they don’t shrink at different rate which really limit what I can do with the glaze :(
It is very difficult to assure they fit together if you fire the components separately. One thing to do is to just make the galleries slightly larger that necessary, that way there's wiggle room when you fire them. I use this stuff called Chemico grinding paste (not sponsored but I wish I was), which allows me to grind in the lids to get them to fit perfectly, even if they don't fit at all! Thanks for watching!
@@floriangadsby Thank you so much for the reply :)

Lmao, i read this as how to make a Leiden jar, was thinking all it is gonna store is just the time you put into it
I sense there's a lot of complexity going on with the shape and angles of both galleries! Could you explain without a diagram??
I need a this jara wher did we get this???

Where can I buy your products please ?
my work is only available through my own website, www.floriangadsby.com/shop, I'll be doing my next shop restock at the end of November.
Can we do it using mold??
You can make anything using a mould, you've just got to make one! Which is sadly a skill I haven't spent much time mastering.
Can you talk about exactly what parts you wax resist please
I always wax the bases, where the clay meets the kiln shelves. If there were glaze on the bottoms it would fuse to the kiln shelves. I also wax the gallery of the pot, so where the clay bodies meet where the lid sits upon the jar. As again, if they were glazed in their entirety they'd just stick together.
When you wax the gallery, do you wax the lid, where it touches the gallery as well?
In which age u became to make ur first pottery
I started making pottery at school, when I was about 16/17.
I bought a small jar and I’ll hopefully see it in person in 6 days, for the first time (thanks covid)
It's been such a long wait! I hope you like it, those little ones are my favourite, good for keeping small treasures or whatever you feel like really. Thanks again Walter, and thanks for watching too!
Does this need to have strong arms?
1:05 that's so unsatisfying
