Your little one is getting longer by the week, possibly topping 16 inches, almost as big as that water bottle you're sipping on or an extra large head of cauliflower. Now weighing in at 2 ½ to 3 pounds, you can expect your baby's weight to double over the next 11 weeks and maybe even come close to tripling.
Where will all your baby's weight gain come from? Mostly from all the new fat that's starting to form under the skin, and as your baby plumps up, the room in your womb will start to get a little cramped. So while you'll still be getting plenty of kicks, you'll feel more jabs and pokes from sharp elbows and knees. Less range of motion also means the days of rapid-fire flips are over. Instead, there will be slower wriggling and shifting. Painfully cute, for sure, but also sometimes pretty painful.
Speaking of baby moves, now's the time to start keeping track of them, if you haven't already, and not just for entertainment value, but to monitor your baby's wellbeing. Twice a day, every day, take a kick-counting break. Start a timer and see how long it takes to feel 10 movements. Kicks, jabs, pokes and rolls all count, but not hiccups because those are involuntary.
If you haven't counted 10 movements by the end of an hour, have some juice or a snack, walk a bit or give your belly a little jiggle, then lie down, relax and continue counting. If two hours go by without 10 movements, or if you've noticed any change in your baby's movement patterns or strength, give your provider a call. Don't panic. Less activity might just mean baby's resting but it's always smart to check in for reassurance. Now, let's go count those kicks!

Midwife told us not to monitor kicks so much. It gives you a false sense of security. As long as your baby’s moving throughout the day that’s all that matters. No need to sit there a and count movements. Everyday is different
