Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams (80s Remix)
Vložit
- čas přidán 8. 02. 2018
- During the 80s, Green Day took a break from the punk rock scene to take on new challenges in the 1980s pop genre. I don't know how successful they were though, I wasn't born back then.

This would've probably banged in the 80's
PolaroidFreak 600 Kinda like a pre-FTP “Pumped Up Kicks” where you groove to depressing lyrics
@@swolejeezy2603 You mean like Nena's "99 Red Balloons"? Or Alphaville's "Forever Young"? A lot of eighties music was actually quite dark, it seems, because of a climate of fear or something like that...
TBQH, nuclear annihilation is actually in most ways a lot darker and more depressing than school shootings...
I was kinda thinking about something like Depeche Mode, fx Black Celebration, is kind of dark
@@neolexiousneolexian6079 nah, school shootings actually happen on the reg, nuclear annihilation was a looming threat. For sure there's dark songs, but on the whole I'd say the cultural atmosphere in the 80s was more optimistic (and as it turns out, naive).
Let's get Marty and Doc take this back to the 80s and see what happens... 🤣😭

Picture the movie scene. A teenage boy has a burning passion for dance which isn't understood by anyone else around him. After an intensely angry arguement between the boy and his father, in which the lines 'just because you sold out your dreams, doesn't mean you get to screw mine too' and 'you walk out that door and you ain't coming back in', are exchanged, the boy runs out into the night. He finds an abandoned basketball court, and, in a moment of pure passion and anger, bursts into an impromptu but strangely professional 'frustration dance' as '80s style Boulevard Of Broken Dreams' plays in the background. It's raining heavily, but the rain only adds to the drama. The song quietens as it nears the end, and the character, feeling hurt but simultaneously rejuvenated by the dance, walks off the court. He reminds himself that tomorrow is another day, and no matter what anyone says, he will pursue his dance passion. Fin.
Edit: Thanks for the comments, you legends. To those who are telling me my movie scenario isn't original. I know this, and tbh, that's kind of the point. The song is so achingly reminiscent of 80s high school/ dance movies and musicals, particularly those frustration dance scenes from the likes of Footloose or HSM3, that I was merely presenting an almost parodic version to highlight how ridiculously perfect this song would be in such a scene. Also, to those people saying I'm a genius and should become a movie writer, you should probably set your standards a little higher 😂 Only joking, your belief in me, whilst a bit overreaching, is touching, nonetheless ❤
Bec Beautiful!
Oh yeah I remember that scene from the movie The Boy Who Danced Away Oppression. Clunky title but a memorable 80s movie with a great soundtrack

This would literally be an 80's classic if it had come out in the 80's
Andrew Cosio may I ask why?
Kitty Mainly because it would be a pretty emotional song compared to the time. At this era, it was mainly love music or happy music. Or even inspirational. This would've been a completely new category to the music industry.
Gazïco Coldfur thank you! Born in the 90s, so couldn't figure this out.

Lyrics:
I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me, and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one, and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk a-
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aaah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the borderline
Of the edge, and where I walk alone
Read between the lines
What's fucked up, and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive, and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk a-
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aaah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah
I walk alone, I walk a-
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one, and I walk a-
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
i never expected this, Green Day was formed in 86/87 making them a 80s band but they got success in modern times
They were huge 24 years ago
1994, modern times?
@K Weaver that they did, but they didn't make it big until 94. He said success, not year formed
That's like saying a kid born in 2007 is a 2000's kid.
@K Weaver I guess you could say kids born in 1999 are 90s kids
My first thought on this was "sounds less like an 80s song, and more like a modern indie song" . So an 80s song basically
Sounds like something the strokes would do nowadays
I love this song! Back in '84 I danced this during prom night with my best friend, she danced until her feet were hurting.
we're still married and this is our song.
Wasn’t out then😂😂😂
@@supremesurfer that's...the bloody joke
I bought the cassette for this in '85.
I was fresh out of high school, just started college.
Walking around campus playing this on my stereo.
Had many impromptu dance parties.
Great time to be alive.
I remember seeing these guys live in the 80’s in concert. Man I miss those times....
Oh man, I remember when I was just seventeen back in the summer of '85, and I was in love with this girl. So I got the courage to ask her if she would go out with me and see Green Day In concert. We were on our way to the show when my Pontiac Fiero broke down. Sad to say we didn't make it to the show, but there happened to be a beautiful sunset that night, and we started singing together, and Boulevard of Broken Dreams was our favorite Green Day song.
Long story short, we got married, and yes, we danced to this song in our wedding. And yes, we did get to see Green Day a few years later, but we never heard anything about them after that. Does anyone know if Green Day are still releasing new music or touring?
Who could even forget summer of '85?! This tune was plastered all over the radio. It must've appeared on Casey Kasem's Top 40 for 4 or 5 months straight that year. Such a shame they kind of fell off the face of the planet after their only other hit, synth-pop song, "World vs. World", just a mere 3.5 or so years later. As far as still releasing music, or touring, I don't think anyone has even mentioned their name in almost 30 years to be quite honest. Their singer/guitarist Billie did a collaboration with Frank Astley in Spring of '88, and also wrote and produced some tunes for The Go-Go's that same year... but he hasn't really been involved in much since then. Their bassist, Mike, did some collaborations with Phil Collins and was the touring bassist for Fine Young Cannibals for spring of '89, and later went on to open a café in California. Happened to see that he opened a Twitter account with some obnoxiously-long hash-tags to his posts, but has been on a hiatus from social media the past few years. Their drummer, I believe his name was Frank, was a founding member of some obscure goth-rock band called, "Cane and the Stubborn Stains", but due to his cocaine addiction and self-prostitution scandals, he was forced to leave the band in early 1991 after their music video for "Fun Center" was released. He did release a solo song by the name of, "Like A Rat Does Cheese", a few years later, but it hardly sold, since it was only released on 8-track.
Shame to know that we'll likely never hear from these boys of '80s pop ever again, but one can only hope for a reunion show. Green Day, I hope you somehow see this message and consider getting back together for some new material, or at least a live performance of this song, one last time. Long live the synthesizer..................
Nice try....
They disbanded in winter of '89, citing "creative differences". There have been no albums or releases since.
You're living a life of confusion, my friend. I'm sorry to say this.
