In 2004 I was going through a bad depression. I was getting panic attacks, relentless insomnia and nightmares when I did manage to sleep. I was a broken, empty shell for months. This song was the only soundtrack to my experience and life. It both tethered me to reality and highlighted my nightmare. I only recovered through the love of a man I met in March 2005. The point of the song is not the matter of fact that he's actually physically alone is a he feels mentally alone and that he feels as if no one is there for him and is no one with him not the fact that he has people with him and also a reason that he was walking with the two other bandmates was because it's supposed to represent no matter how many people you have you can still feel alone and not everybody is actually there for you when they're there
