- Finally, after 21 years and a lot of repairs it is time to try and drive the F100, but first I must deal with a cooling system issue that came out of nowhere. There was a time while making the video I did not think this truck would ever see the road! Come along and see.
Glad you rescued that truck. seems like it runs really well. I've had Ford trucks all my life.
The year I graduated from High School. Truck runs great!! Nice neighborhood. That driveway. Omgggggggggg!!
That driveway is very tough. When it gets wet, even worse.
it's thrilled to be getting some exercise! Love the sound of the tranny in first gear
Me too. It sounds so old school.
Richard, as always great job!!!
Thank you for the support. Much appreciated!
right on man great gob sir ..love it ,,,wow ..enjoy
Thanks. This was a fun rescue.
This is awesome. My 1st truck was a 1980 f100 black with red interior. 300 six with standard 3 on the tree. I loved that truck. Wish I still had it. I did alot of work to it. Put a new clutch in it....pulled the motor and replaced it with another.
Not bad good job
Enjoyable vid.
Thanks.
Great job, you gave it a chance of life again. These are tough trucks they are very reliable if they are taken care of.
Thanks Jose. Yes, these are good trucks.
Get use to pulling back to you chest for 1st! lol My alternator belt was loose and Had to be tightened. It look just like my 80, but mine is and automatic! GREAT!
Congratulations, that was great, and what a lovely estate you live in too.
Thanks. It was a lot of fun.
Great video series...Reminds me of the 78, F100 custom that I bought new...Paid 4,688 for it with 300 cid six cylinder...Auto trans, power steering. No AC and am only radio...Drove it for 14 years then sold it for 2K.... Next I thought I wanted a Chevrolet....Bad idea...That Chev went thru transmissions like I go thru underwear...
Nice find. Nice job.
Nice job! 👍 It drove very well too, I've always been a fan of the bull nose F150s.
Right, very good-looking trucks and underappreciated. I think the value of them is on the rise.
Thats awesome man glad to finally see it back on the road!
Thanks! More to come!
Now this is my kind of work truck! Sounds like it is running perfectly fine. A truck like this is definitely worth fixing up regardless of what engine is in it. The 300 I-6 is a reliable workhorse especially when mated to a 4-speed transmission. Another added bonus is the fact that this truck has functional air conditioning & looks great as well.
Thanks. This truck is one I am glad I saved. It was way too good to be junked.
@@whattherustAbsolutely! Most of the ones you see on the road are the later ones with the blue ford oval in the center of the grill instead of the lettering on the hood. I knew someone who was daily driving one in 2001 with the blue Ford oval in the center of the grill. It had the 300 straight 6 and a 3 on the tree just like this truck.
@@whattherust Absolutely! I would never junk a truck like this.
Perfect timing on running out of fuel LOL
Hello From Mark In Ky. I am so glad that you got to drive your truck after all of the work and anxiety that it caused you.
If your Ford is configured like my 1985 Ford, You could spray some good penetrating oil around the blend door shaft and then take a pair of vice grips and get someone to put slight pressure on the control inside at first to see if it will free up.
Its usually either the cable is bad or the blend door is stuck closed or maybe both.
I am quite envious that your truck has the brass radiator instead of the aluminum/plastic radiatr like my 1985 has.
Yesterday I replaced my stuck thermostat and noticed that all of my coolant was pretty much all gone out of the radiator after I had completed changing the thermostat.
The previous owner of my truck had installed the new radiator and had tried to force the small hose going to the overflow tank broken the top nipple on the radiator in which was allowing coolant to escape and being that the nipple was broken - The coolant could not be drawn from the overflow tank back to the radiator. Luckily just under that nipple was a second nipple in which I placed the overflow tank hose on and now everything seems to be more normal.
I had no doubt that your truck would climb the hill going up your driveway - The Ford 300 engines are all low end torque and will pull anything that you hook up to with no problem whatsoever.
Thanks. The door looks like it is free, so I just need to work on the cbale a bit.
great
Looks like very nice truck. I would be happy to drive it for you? Just kidding its your baby and she's great!
Thanks! I am very happy with how it turned out.
Criminals will work so hard to ripp off people but, won't try and do right and work like the rest of us😑 I have a lawn maintenance business and I've had my whole truck and trailer with all the equipment on the trailer stolen a few years ago. It happened while I was in the back yard in the middle of the day. The cops finally were able to do a forced stop but, he bailed and managed out run the police 🤦♂️Also had my mustang stolen about 15 years go. I hate a theif😞good story btw!
Dude I'm so sorry to hear that I can totally relate after having all my mechanic tools stolen I began storing my landscaping truck and equipment at a friend's place I thought was safer long story short all my landscaping equipment was stolen and my truck vandalized beyond repair I hope you were able to recover from this loss and your business is doing well
I really enjoy your videos. Particularly because you are just a “normal guy” working from his home, just like the rest of us. No shop. No lift. Nothing but basic tools and limited time. Keep up that great work! Where are you located?
Thanks. That is a very nice comment. I am in Nashville.
@@whattherust how can I get in touch with you?

The water pump can leak it can leak out of the weep hole
You mention you think there is something up with the pullys. You have dealer add on ac. That is why the controls are located in the pocket area and not on the control panel. Later add on ac kits had the controls integrated. You have a separate box in your dash above the glove box that houses the ac accumulator. It is a very simple yet durable system and it can be converted to r134a.
That is good to know! I was curious why it looked like an add-on compressor, yet the accumulator looked factory.
Great to see it on the road. It does sound like a much older truck. I was wondering if it was going to run out of gas on your driveway. :)
I could be wrong, but it seems I was told by someone in the past that if you want to know if you have a blown head gasket, stick a dollar up to the tail pipe~ If it blows it away, you're fine.. if it sucks the dollar towards the pipe, head gasket is blown~
I heard the same, but in reference to checking for a bad valve. Maybe both are correct?
Get some cooling system cleaner in there.
The water pump sounds rough
Hey great content here. I’m about to get a 2001 wrangler sport that’s been sitting for 5 yrs. It does turn over. Question is what should I change once I get it running as a precaution? Such as hoses, belts fluids etc. thanks in advance
Oil, oil filter, air filter. Maybe brake fluid, and likely the gasoline is bad. I would start there. Inspect the belts and hoses.
Will you flush the coolant ?
Get a new water pump on and leak solved.
I run all my boldts thru my wire wheel
That is a good idea.
What's the name for that type of ac compressor? That's perfect for my cucv
I don't know, but it was used by Ford dealers for aftermarket AC installations.
@@whattherust have you done any cucv will it start?
@@shawnlawrence4840 Not yet. I know where one is sitting, but I don't know mush about diesels.
Well I'm learning about mines, I bought it partially fitted, a youtuber rocknus is like you, simply explaining that makes it doable. A diesel or two would be good for the channel. I'm trying to get a bench seat for mines but the are so expensive. Mines wasn't stored good so the seat part of the frame rotted
@@shawnlawrence4840 Interior work can be crazy expensive, but if you find the right person you can save a lot of money.
We could hardly hear you because of the motor so loud
