After a week where Harry Maguire was booed by a section of England fans at Wembley the Manchester United captain turned in a decent performance at Old Trafford despite being barracked by fans of his former club Leicester City.
Although the first half was marked by boos for Maguire's every touch things didn't really take off until after an hour of this match which United had to win to maintain any kind of momentum in the race for a top four finish to qualify for next season's Champions League.
But instead of adding pressure to Arsenal, United were somewhat fortunate to get a draw against Leicester City after Fred equalised 3 minutes after Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring at Old Trafford for the Foxes.
The Reds didn't start to play until after Brendan Rodgers men stunned the United with the opening goal thanks to Fred losing the ball during a United counter attack, James Maddison put a cross in from the left which was converted by a low flying header from former Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
Fred atoned for his error 3 minutes later after Bruno Fernandes' shot was spilled by Kasper Schmeichel with the Brazilian making no mistake from the rebound.
United could have finished the game down to 10 men after Scott McTominay scythed down Maddison after losing the ball but escaped with a booking.
Maddison was able to continue and might have scored the winner late in the match, firing home from close range after Iheanacho had snatched the ball off Raphael Varane, but a contentious VAR check for a foul on the Frenchman robbed the Foxes of victory.
United wasted late chances to win it themselves when Jadon Sancho blazed wide with the goal at his mercy while Anthony Elanga was adjudged offside in the build up when Marcus Rashford went down and claimed a penalty in injury time.
