Peaceful quietness while you worked. I could hear the chickens and some birds. Gardening can be therapeutic in that way! So sorry for your parent's tree coming down 😮
❤
😿
My +40 year-old honey locust has gone through a similar progression over the last 10 years in a zone 5b, semi-arid climate. First, a house addition close to the honey locust, under-planting with many hostas and lots of dieback that made for almost annual professional pruning. Last fall, I finally allowed my arborist to apply a growth regulatory treatment to help strengthen the roots to improve the overall health of the tree. They also recommended deep root watering at least once a month which I have done. The tree is slowly leafing out this spring and is looking much better. 🤞🌳 🤞
Edit: We had heavy hail yesterday. The honey locust only lost one small branch but half the leaf canopy is on the ground covering the shredded hostas and the back yard. And that's a lot of tiny shredded leaves! Time will tell how the hail has affected this tree.
oh that sounds promising then. I hope she sees your comment.
The one issue with Laura’s daily watering is that it can cause weak roots. Twice a week watering for longer time periods are what’s normally recommended if you want strong roots. But she lives in a desert so I understand why she what she does. But the occasional deep soak like you said would probably greatly benefit all her trees and perennials.
I really hope she sees this comment.
I wonder if the tree got hit by lightening? Trees don't always split afterward but it could have been an even "broil".
@@b.a.d.2086 We had a tree that was struck by lightning, probably about three year ago. The tree kept looking sick and slowly dying out. No one could figure it out. We tried various things to treat and save it, to no success.
This past winter it started splitting, what we thought was for no reason. My eldest son is a supervisor for a tree climbing company. He came to take down the tree before it ended up taking out part of my house. Once he saw the splitting and inside of tree he immediately knew that the tree had been struck by lightning 😢
Odd that the CV splitting didn't happen for a few years after being struck.
With everything going on in our world, your videos are such a mood lifter and so inspiring. Your positive presence is truly a gift, thank you. Love it! ❤
Good morning, Laura ☕️ I’m so, so happy Ken didn’t edit in music. I so appreciate the natural sounds as you go about your day. As soon as you said you were going after it, I had my finger on the volume and was so pleasantly surprised. It all looks so good and, I too hope the Locust Tree 🌳 makes it! 🤞🏻 Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈.
Yes, I always mute the music. I thought others enjoyed it, but I'd much rather just have the ambient background noise any day.
I was thinkthe same thing,! although I do usually like the music choice 😊 The peacefulness is needed before I head out to join the daily rat race😮
I like Music on this channel. It's always really NICE. ❤ I like the mix of videos with and without music. I think that the editing skills and choices that are made for these videos are always excellent. But with the millions of people that watch this channel, you can't make everyone happy! Keep up the good work, Garden Answer!
No music ,please.
No music pl
Love enjoying the video without the music, listening to the birds. It's so peaceful. Thanks for sharing.
What a peaceful spot, just beautiful, birds chirping, Russell taking a nap, pretty flowers. I can envision you out in the morning while everyone is still seeping sitting there with a cup of coffee in your bunny slippers enjoying the lovely space you have created. You have such a gift.
It is not a gift if you worked hard for it. It is a reward for your hard work and dedication!
I had to laugh- Russell remains totally unaffected by his napping bench being moved. Love that kitty!!
The sitting area looks stunning! I love hydrangeas. Actually it all looks beautiful!
The sound of the birds and the chickens are so soothing. That space came out so wonderful. ❤️❤️❤️
Maria, I so agree, I love the sounds of the birds and chickens !
I just love your videos, Laura. I have been following for about 7 years now. I have learned so much from you. Over the last 3 years, I have been struggling with a very painful disability whitch put me into a depression so watching and learning from you is a gift. It lifts my spirits and allowed me to at least grow plants in doors they are beautiful and fun, so thank you. Keep up the good work ❤😊 and your family is beautiful God Bless you.
Watching a lovely gardener create a space will chase away the gloomies! Good medicine!
I love how neat you all are in the garden
When a project is complete leaves, grass, mulch etc is always blown away, things are rinsed off, supplies put away. So satisfying!
Your enthusiasm is marvelous-let positivity reign! One thing I have learned from you is to plant in groups. I always stuck just one plant in at a time but finally learned my lesson. Thanks Laura!
Love planting in groups, but at $10 a pot, it gets a little steep. Well, one area looks great!
thank you for not playing any "music" while Laura worked in the kitchen garden it was so soothing
I totally agree; I do NOT like how almost everyone fills in every second of no talking with annoying music.
Agreed!! It's like we are there 😊
I like the music! The small drill sounds like the dentist😂😂😂
Agreed. I've recently been on a garden video binge here on CZcams and there's so many I click off of because of the music.
Exactly, without music it's so nice to head
Our 50 year old Sunburst Locus tree had about 20ft of ivy growing up it too. It had blackberries all underneath. We cleared the ivy and berries out. The tree barely leafed out for two seasons and we lost a few branches BUT these past two years it has done really well with dark lush leaf growth. We now have a fern and hosts garden under it! Our tree hung in there, hope yours does too.
I loved listening to nature while you planted in the kitchen garden. So beautiful.
Loved hearing the natural sounds as you worked. So relaxing 🌸🪷
This kitchen flowerbed area is so beautiful! It must be a wonderful spot for morning coffee! 🙂
I absolutely love this area. Everything about it invites you to come, sit, andsavor the beauty! You must be so proud of it.
Pat hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
This area is just beautiful! I love the layering and appreciate how much thought you've put into it (& explaining it too). The hydrangeas are stunning in the seating group. I just love it.
I think it looks like a fairy garden. Little fairies are hiding under the big leaves, flying up to trees, and searching for Samantha Grace, Benjamin, and Russell to play with. I know I weird, but your gardens are just magical.
‘It’s going to be beautiful”? It already is! This might be my favorite combo in this space you have ever done. Perfection if the fountain would cooperate-the struggle is real! Definitely a picture perfect coffee-drinking relaxing spot!
This is my favorite area (along with the chicken coop area🤣). It just has a cozy feeling. What a wonderful place to sit-I’m sure you will enjoy many relaxing evenings here.
Laura could this be Sunscald happening to your locust. Sunscald occurs when enough intense sunlight hits a tree's trunk to warm it so that cells break dormancy and become active. When temperatures drop at night or a cold spell hits, it kills the cells that became active. Sunscald, sometimes also called southeast injury or winter injury, tends to occur on the south- or southwest-facing side of the tree, where the sun hits the trunk. Damage may not be visible until spring growth occurs and appears as discolored, sunken bark that may split or fall off in patches. Some of the tree's canopy may die back. Heavy pruning, especially in fall or winter, allows more sunlight to reach the trunk and can encourage sunscald.
My thought with this video wS they need a true arborist to inspect the tree and thankfully they have all these videos to show what recent changes have happened around it. Change is tough on people and imagine if we were trees? The weather changes as well.
I wonder if it's reacting to all the SO2 that's been in the air following the volcanic eruption in the Kamchatka Peninsula. She has said the daffodils & tulips bloom schedule is off, so maybe the tree is reacting to their unseasonably cool spring
@@loloholmes2793 between that and the huge Tonga volcano a couple years back, I expect a few years of weird weather. I think there was a write-up in the New York Times last fall about how the Tonga volcano might affect the weather.
I'm a bit further up the coast in Canada an we had a weird winter/cooler spring, too.
Great observation. I also heard that if there are too many breaks in the honey locust’s bark and the breaks are exposed, especially near the roots, this can also cause air damage and shock the cells. This is one tree that can benefit from mulch on the roots.
It so wonderful to hear real background noise, from birds to chickens and even drill.
I have to admit I wasn’t loving the helichrysum whenever you would show it in the greenhouse. But now I understand it’s impact when it’s in the right space. Gorgeous!
🇨🇦 Kudos to the editor this morning. It was great to just hear the outdoors instead of music. Heather D
The silver of the helichrysum with the silver of the stone-and the curve-is creative genius. The foliage of the Japanese anemones is a beautiful, lush backdrop. Cheers!
I was watching one of your old videos yesterday and saw the most beautiful ginger and white cat, who I think was Dexter. I could tell he was a super special kitty who loved you dearly ... he seemed like a little angel.
She had a cat some years ago that something killed. Maybe this was him.
It was Dexter that died. Now there is Russell who really loves Laura.
Sad memories for many of us
Good morning 🌞 everyone 😊 coffee time with Laura... my favorite time of day. Laura everything is looking so pretty. I have to get my hands on some of those plants especially the geraniums 😍 they are gorgeous 🤩 have a wonderful day everybody
I love how trusting Russell is when you move the furniture. He’s so chill. Love the owl or dove in the background too. Chickens too.
Love the sounds in your garden, the doves, the chickens ...makes for a peaceful morning time .
Your garden looks beautiful👍😊💜🌸🌿🌳
Good morning Garden Answer friends!. My thought on the locust tree being sad..I am not by any stretch a professional with trees, but it could be in shock from surrounding work. We hired an arborist 2 years to inspect & diagnose trees surrounding our home, many diseased for years prior to us moving in, so we had them cut down, nothing touched with roots & small level stump remains. However, our surrounding trees several feet away,, started leaf dropping seemingly healthy leaves prematurely, last year & already again this year. Have a great day all. 6:07
A beautiful view from your kitchen window!
What a great cat Russell is, nothing seems to faze him!
This area is so lush and beautiful. It's my favorite garden on your property. Having spent so much time in the new areas of your property over the past two years it was nice to return to this matured garden.
This is my favorite flower bed! So beautiful Laura!
I love this video how we’re just hearing the natural sound that is around you… The chickens, the tractor, the sound of the drill, the birds, just nature….
I start my day with my coffee in hand and watching garden answer, and it was so relaxing to have my coffee in your garden this morning…
Thank you for teaching this new Gardner.
Laura I think this is my favourite part of your beautiful property. I love everything you planted today. Also love those peachy tulips left in the mix whose colour is unexpected and perfect. Sending out healing vibes to your honey locus- hang in there baby, you can do it !❤
Thank you too for the quietness of this video- really soothing and gentle.
The purple of the huchera and flowers next to the helichrisum is gorgeous. Love the similar color but different structure of the dusty Miller and helichrisum. How did I not ever notice the white lilac? Also the hydrangeas flanking the couch gives that area a great comforting formality. Add the Cracker Jack marigolds to the raised bed veggie garden.
With the honey locust if you don’t see any signs of insects/disease above ground you should look at the roots. Perhaps there is root girdling/collaring. You can carefully clean around the roots near the the base of the tree to check. Or your local arborist should be able to do this for you.
Love your channel, brought many hours of enjoyment. Good luck with the tree.
My dad had a locust tree. He built a low retaining wall around it (maybe about eight inches to a foot high), filled the space with dirt and planted a bunch of flowers. It took several years to start showing stress, but the tree died because the roots had been smothered. It looked a lot like yours.
Good morning GA! Hope you are able to help the locust tree recover. It is a beautiful focal point.
In January California was hit hard with storms. We lost 10 trees in total including our 60 foot tall Grand Empress tree. It actually fell on our house. Living in a mobile home it destroyed our home and it will have to be demolished. We all got out (pets too) unharmed even though it fell in the room were all in. It was unbelievably terrify. As upset as I am about losing our house, losing that tree has been difficult too. It created so much shade for our gardens. Now we have so many shade loving plants with nowhere to go. Losing a tree is awful and I really feel for your parents ❤
Thank you for not speeding up or putting music over the video, I love just watching Laura work in real time with whatever background sounds there might be. So sorry to hear about your moms tree! Keep us updated 🙏
Liz shoemaker hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Good morning everyone 🌄 Such a beautiful way to the kitchen entrance! I love it 🤩
Laura, of course I buy stuff for myself for mother's day, actually this year I really went to town. I toped it off with 2 president Lincoln lilac, so excited about it. I should have bought 1 more. Well maybe I will get 2 more, just because 😅. Have an amazing week everyone 💗🤗💗
Isn’t that what Mother’s Day means?
@@amysgardenstead2879 Yes. Yes it does. 😉 Happy Mother’s Day!!
By far one of my FAVORITE videos that you have made!!! I love the peaceful setting and the way you captured the different angles and close ups. I love that it was real time and had natural sounds of nature.
And- I love the plants you used- always so beautiful and inspiring!
Thank you 🙏🏼🌸🌺💕Amy
Amy I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
So beautiful! Sorry about your mom and dad's tree. We lost 3 big trees in our front yard when the tornado hit our little town on March 31st. Laura, your gardens and home is unbelievably beautiful!
So beautiful! Sorry about your mom’s tree. I remember when my red bud fell in a storm. We found out it had core rot. (I think that’s what was wrong with it). I’m really enjoying your videos. Makes me want to go outside and pull weeds, plant flowers, etc. God bless and have a great day.
The hydrangeas in the sitting area look phenomenal! I hope they work out for you. The space is looking beautiful.
Absolutely obsessed with the contrast from the pink tulips and the helichrysum. LOVE it
I was singing while watching you work “'Cause I'm every woman
It's all in me” - thanks for all you do!
Looks very Common common and serene it's beautiful,. It almost looks like a secret garden. I bet it feels so good to get up in the morning and go out there and have your coffee . Never get tired of seeing your sweet family God-bless you.
This was just lovely. Loved watching and listening as you worked, concentrating on this one unique space. And the cats! They are like Alfred Hitchcock in his movies, always making an appearance... Russell on the loveseat as you moved it back into place! So funny! Thank you, Laura!
LoriNeilson hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
This is my favorite video in a long time. I love how this garden is designed and the planting combinations are perfect.
Pamela hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
I read an article from Good House Keeping that outdoor gardening is one of the best activities for your heart. I was telling my family I hope watching, Gardening, and Flower Farms on CZcams channels counts. I do not have an outdoor area to garden so I enjoy your videos.
Hi Laura, I have to say that this flower bed by your kitchen is probably one of my favourites with peaceful colors, stacked stone wall, potted boxwood , hydrangeas and pottery and of course your lovely seating set. You definitely achieved the cohesiveness that I need in my garden! 🌸❤️🇨🇦
Everything is so beautiful! That view at 12:03-12:06 is stunning!! The natural sounds makes the audience feel like we could just be right there beside you as you create your beautiful gardens. 💚
It was so nice to watch without canned music and just the sound of the environment! Thanks
This kitchen garden area I think is one of my favourite spots in your whole garden. So lush, green and shady. Something I have none of in my garden and crave deeply for.
Love that pale peach pink with the soft blue green and the purples! You are an artiste Laura!
Kimber hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Colorado State University Extension has a great article on the Honey Locust tree with great photos too
Oh, to see that view out the window...beautiful!!
Laura, for me you are such an inspiration, after all these years I am still learning, your garden is magnificent, I had never heard of some of the plants in your garden, now I have some of them in mine, love watching.
I enjoyed the sounds of your gardening in this video. I also like when your editor adds music. Sometimes, though, give us the peaceful sounds of working and nature. It’s why we garden.
I always appreciate every episode, Laura. Even more so now. I'm 1 week out of a TKR, total knee replacement and your videos are helping me through this. Lovely kitchen garden additions. Thank you
Oh Laura, this is such a magical garden, the kitchen flower garden. I have names for all my flowers beds also, Seed bed, bear bed it just goes on and on. Such beautiful purple flowers and the beautiful icicles are gorgeous. So very sorry about your parents tree. I know how that feels. We had to cut our 45 year old maple tree a couple of years ago, cause the roots were infested in our sewer lines. It was a horrible feeling. We planted it when my oldest daughter was about 10 months old , know she's 46. I still miss it. I love to sit on my back porch at night in the summer and listen to the frogs and whiperwills. Oh Hon your video's make me feel so good. Can't wait til Monday every week. Thank you and Aaron for sharing all your flowers, shrubs, tree's, vines, fruit trees, evergreen trees, veggie and fruit gardens.❤
I love your kitchen bed. Wow. I can imagine how peaceful to drink some coffee and sit there in the morning. Currently saving for our first house-my husband is going to be so mad at you for giving me sooo many ideas!
Elizabeth hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
I cannot begin to explain how relaxing and meditative it was just to hear the natural sounds when you gardened in this video. It made me feel like I was outside working in my own yard and giving me that same peaceful feeling.❤ beautiful! I would not have thought it was possible! Thank you.
I always give myself THE BEST gifts😂
I bought myself a miniature rose on Mother's Day. Then my family took me to the garden center to pick out a plant. I got a Meyer lemon tree!
This by far is my favorite planting area you have done. It reminds me a lot of your mom's gardens, which I love. Just stunning Laura.
The hydrangeas in the pots are absolutely stunning! WOW! The wild berry heuchera are beautiful - as is EVERYTHING! Those are my favourites.
Now you'll have marvelous view outside of your kitchen window for spring and summer. Gorgeous plants!!
Indeed, a wonderful bed. It looks amazing , your garden as usual.😍👏😍🌼🌻🌼
Imelda hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
What a way to relax after a 12 hour shift!
Laura, I very much enjoyed watching you tweak this existing bed. My own flowerbed is many years old and I have been removing and improving it the last few years based on your videos. This was a great start to Monday, for me, watching this video.
Love the sounds of everything in this video! It’s nature let it play without music 🎉❤🌸
Karen hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Nice work Laura! I’m amazed that you never wear gloves to protect your nails/skin. Wow
Happy Mother's Day...to me...from me....I laughed SO hard!!!!
That garden area is beautiful. It's so full, colorful and interesting. Looks very relaxing as well.
I can’t wait to see your kitchen garden in a few weeks !
Glorious!!!
Dena hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
I love fun names for you garden beds. I always loved the "Versaille " garden. (Not sure I spelled that correctly. You should name all of your gardens.
The patio area is so elegant. I love those hydrangeas in the pots.
Hey Laura.. we are desperate to listen you playing piano..and it's been long time you have not made vedio of cooking anyting with your kids ❤
Desperate?
I have to say I'm so excited for your sister's garden update, I've been waiting since last week ❤
Same!
So so beautiful. I can just picture sitting there and looking at all the beauty around. So serene 🤗🤗 ☀️ 🌞☀️☀️ You’re amazing. ❤️❤️. Loved every minute of this video. Watched it over and over 🙏🙏
Good morning Laura! What a beautiful space! Hugs from N.C..❤️
GORGEOUS!!!! I want to have coffee there and sit and just look - surely that would be therapeutic to the eye and brain.
Absolutely love that area!

Hi Laura...we have been with you and Aaron since well before you moved. Absolutely love what you guys have done to your current place. I just get lost in all your
garden tours. Thanks so much for sharing all your hard work and wonderful ideas! Now that Honeylocust tree. We have lived at our current address for nearly 40 yrs.
now and the neighbor directly across the street had the exact same tree. It was gorgeous for years and then for a few years it became more and more sparse with
growth, till it finally died completely and had to be removed. Boy, did we miss it. Since their longevity is only 70 years, it could be your's has aged quite a bit.
Just a good day to do what you feel like in your garden! Mine is just beautiful thanks to you & Jenny (@Creekside) this year! And truly every year I’ve been watching your videos & posts. Thank you for giving me the courage to turn my back yard into my little piece of paradise here on the bluffs of the Mississippi River! ❤
Stunning garden with all the different colors and structure, that all comes together. I have learned so much from you, Laura. I gave myself a present and bought a Dewalt garden drill....what a game changer when planting the gardens!!! Thank You!!!
Those are beautiful hydrangeas. I’ve never seen those. I saw some yesterday at the garden center with bright red stems. I love the contrast in these hydrangeas. I planted a hydrangea garden for my Mom and dad yesterday. Laura I’m going to send you a pic when they grow more. It’s so beautiful. They’re yard is just spectacular and yet they don’t garden at all, it’s just the mature trees like cedar, oak, juniper, rose of Sharon and they have the greenest grass mix you’ve ever seen. Their grass is green all year long.
This is hands down one of my favorite gardens. The silver and dusty miller is BEAUTIFUL❤
Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the look of this kitchen area ~ the silver of the helichrysum icicles with the tulips is A-MA-ZING!!! Think I have to steal this idea :)
Thank you Laura. Everything looks gorgeous! You are such an inspiration. Hope your Mom and Dad tree didn’t do much damage. ❤️🌸
Of all your beautiful spots, this might be my new favorite! How peaceful!
Great job. I think lamb’s ear would be so beautiful along that stone.
RE: Honey locust. I agree with Mary Slack's comment on how to help the tree. This is my favorite planting combo you've done in this space. Absolutely stunning 😍
Such a lovely area🎉😊
The kitchen garden looks so good with the new wall. I love the snowflakes in the background behind the fountain. Mine were finished over a month ago.
