Like many former soldiers, lance corporal Adolf Hitler was disillusioned with the new German Republic after the Armistice in 1918. Like man of his country men he was also in dire need of a job. The Bavarian Army provided an opportunity and soon young Adolf Hitler found himself in the ranks of an obscure political party in Munich: The German Workers' Party.

Socialism attracted not just the working class but all subjugated people
But if youre trying to further the NSDAP conspiracy theory that Jewish people were behind Bolshevism that's just silly considering the USSR government traded in many of the same anti-semitic conspiracy theories that the NSDAP did too

Every single German at the moment had either fought in the trenches or lost some relative in them, so it's not hard to guess how he managed to be taken seriously in such a visceral way. Right, like pointing out that the man himself was a political flip-flopper, going wherever it seemed he had the best chance of being carried along with the tide to success. Secondly the fact that the National Socialist party was actually Socialist but opposed to Marxist and Leninist Socialism. He doesn't directly say it but he mentions it a few times.
Hitler was an Authoritarian Dictator, yes, but his Socialist party was Authoritarian, too, in the way that all socialism (big s or small) eventually becomes. Many don't (or refuse to) understand that just because Fascism and Communism appear at different ends of the Economic political spectrum, doesn't mean they actually were at opposite ends of Authoritarianism.

A fair and factual discussion of the early rise of the mustache man, without the annoying spooky music and hysterical narration which typically accompanies these types of videos. I've watched a few of your other videos, and I haven't detected an obvious bias or desire to pander to certain audiences. You might have earned yourself a Patreon subscriber because detailed and honest historical work needs to be done, even though I think books are the best way to study history.

I love how you explain the exceptionally complex and intricate nature of the DAP. Even my colleagues at the university have trouble with labels as either a “Deeply left” or “Deeply right” party. I think the reason they have so much trouble is because of their flawed attempts to label it in the first place. As you said, the competing political beliefs were controversial (and not unilateral) in 1919. Now we try to group it in our contemporary lens and we end up ourselves conflicted. I think the purpose of history is to attempt to uncover these many complexities and to accept when we don’t necessarily have just one answer.

What he used to do before the Great War was live out of hostel dormitories in Vienna, which was his concept of initially going out into the world, upon leaving home in the Austro-Bavarian region, having rejected his dad's idea of being a border tariff collector, although he did have ideas of becoming something somewhere along the line, and canvas painting was the more immediate project in that regard. So he'd take his eisel and paints and canvasses into city squares, amongst pigeons and traffic, and all that, and do portraits of buildings. On other days he'd spend the entire day in libraries and museums poring intensely over literature and exhibits whilst wearing fedoras and long jackets and with longish hair.
