A walking tour of Bonners Ferry, Idaho

- This is a walk through the business part of the old town along the Kootenai River. This walking tour was shot with my Cosmos Pocket Kimbell camera. The picture is not very sharp because I used the auxiliary wide angle attachment. I didn't realize it was this poor.

Thanks for the video! My husband and I are starting a homestead in Bonners Ferry 2 years from now, after we fell in love with the town while visiting last year. We come from a similar rural small town and can appreciate all it has to offer.
I've lived here for 6 years and that is the quietest I have ever seen the downtown area, even at that early hour. Weekends, especially in the summer, can draw some fairly significant crowds when certain activities are going on (fairs, etc.). By the way, the Mexican restaurant at 4:23 has some very good food. Also be aware that to the south side of town along the main street/highway there are a number of businesses that are not dependent on tourist trade, which to a large extent the downtown area is. Visitors to and from Canada and from Washington to and from Montana provide enough activity to keep this small town from fading away. (Real estate prices have shot up here significantly in the last 2+ years.)
That town can be a full time movie set. Every small town 80s moment can be recreated there.

Nice video! Makes me realize how much I miss the ole' hometown. Thanks for sharing. (i remember as a teenager watching the movie "Dark Shadows" with my cousin at the Rex theater, then we had to walk home across the old bridge in the dark to get home. Couple of scared silly girls! Fun times.)

Thank you for the nice tour , but don’t forget to tell people, Idaho’s minimum wage hasn’t changed according to the cost of living in years, but with all of the new comers escaping to live here, our housing costs and property taxes have almost skyrocketed so Idaho natives are unable to find affordable housing now.

Edit: I Remember Watching The Movie 'Up' at The Theater When The Movie Came Out.

Yeah,, beautiful places in Bonner ferry,I used to work for da union Pacific railroad up north to Canada port of entry,that was bck n 1983 to 84 ,then I didn't have any vehicle out,was just on foot,, duff bags,spend 35 years with UPRR co out from Omaha Nebraska,I work all up north Oregon, Washington,Idaho, mountain state ,nation wide ,my younger days, coast to coast,USA, oversea ,,, good old days

I used to work there up north Canada port of entry working for Union pacific railroad co.from Omaha Nebraska,spend 28 years working nation wide , coast to coast, USA, oversea duty,been all over,winter,an summer,,now bck n my own state ,AZ..
Me and my brothers went to movies at the REX theater every Sat. night. Mom gave us a quarter for movie , pop corn and pop. (1959)

Thinking of moving to Bonners Ferry, I grew up in a really small town, I need to go back to a small town, plus washington state is just pure cancer. I need the fresh pure atmosphere of Idaho... I'm sure there'll be less commies.

Hey Ed, had to create an account just to post on here since I don't have a YT account.. but I saw you uploaded this 3 days ago and I'm hoping this gets to you asap since you are a local in the area.. My wife and I have lived in Tennessee and so have our parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and so on for over 200 years in the same county. We've never been further than an hour west or an hour north of our hometown. We were planning on going to Scotland in two weeks but those plans fell through due to the covid craze.. I've looked at Bonner's Ferry before because I like to randomly scroll around on google maps and from pictures, and now your video, we would love to visit sometime. If we came up in a week or so would the town be a good representation of what it normally would be pre-covid or are things shut down? We know different parts of the country are taking different approaches and a lot of the hype or non hype of the virus comes down to the state and local politicians.. can you give me a description of the environment? Are the restaurants and attractions closed down?
by the way, this is a great video idea and execution. More people should do these walk-throughs of small town USA.. and if everyone had your captivating voice to narrate it would definitely be a hit. Currently watching your other videos in another tab. Thanks buddy!
Hi, Red Dit. I'm not the one who made the video and I realize you posted six months ago, but I am a Boundary County resident and can answer your questions if you're still wondering and didn't end up coming to see for yourself yet. Boundary County, including Bonners Ferry, is a beautiful place and well worth visiting any time of the year. There are some folks who choose to wear masks due to the universal Covid craziness, but the majority don't and won't. Nothing is shut down, including restaurants and attractions, and you will not be refused business anywhere if you don't choose to wear a mask. It's probably about the most normal place you could visit in the country right now, as far as pre-covid normal goes. If you haven't already made a visit, we hope you will be able to soon. It's particularly beautiful in late spring, early summer, and autumn. Beautiful in winter, too, but not much snow to speak of right now. Take care, and all the best from Bonners Ferry, Idaho!
