    Rockered, perhaps, which I generally don’t like, but flexible, which I do like, which makes it feel more natural. EVERY shoe review should show and comment on flex.

      Tried a pair on the other day and have never felt good in a Brooks before. This fit my narrow foot really well and has amazing pop with enough flexibility to toe off that it doesn’t feel like it’s a rocker only ride.

    One of the best reviews of the Hyperion Max. Kudos!

    I really enjoy your reviews and it helps a ton to decide which shoe to try out and buy eventually.
    Helps to put things in perspective. Had the Hyperion Tempo last year and really enjoyed it, both tongues have been ripped at the lace though, that was the only downside. Apart from that it's one of the best no frills shoes on the market imho.

      Just did a 50 minute tempo in the Hyperion Tempo today! Another great shoe from Brooks.

    Hi Andrea! I was also a big fan of the Beacon ( 6 pairs over all 3 versions). I picked up a pair of the Max recently and so far I’m enjoying them for all the reasons you do. Funny enough, the staff at the local run specialty store recommended it after hearing I liked the Beacon. For the tongue slip, since the strip of fabric is only attached at the ends, you could try threading the laces underneath. I found it helps.

      Thanks for the tip about lacing - did it today and no slip after 17 miles!

    I have them and I love them. I am only using them for racing 10K, HALF AND FULL because I do NOT want to use carbon plated shoes. In my case, though, I had to exchange them for a half size larger because I have a Morton's foot and my usual size hurt my right index toe. Once I got the half size larger shoe, they are just perfect for fast long runs/races.
    I'd agree this can be also used for tempo and interval workouts, but I use the Hyperion Tempo for those.
    For EZ runs, I prefer to use the Ghost or the Pegasus.
    For context: I am a 'slow' runner. My EZ pace is 10 min/mil, and my 10K pace is 8 min/mil, which explains my shoe rotation above and the fact that I do not want/need super shoes.
    Thanks

    I couldn't agree more amazing little shoe to expensive for the light weight performance trainer it is. Would love for it to be at 130 maybe at max 150. We got these in at the store. a local fleet feet. Thank you for the amazing review.

    Thank you for your comprehensive review. I've got a Ghost 14, Glycerin 20, and a Hyperion Elite 3, so this could potentially come into 10k - HM distance races, and tempo work too with the Elite 3 for 5k/10k races and speed work.

    I re-laced the shoe and put the laces under the red material higher up the tongue, that stopped it moving around for me.

    Between Brooks Glycerin 20 and Max, which one think would be more suitable for a say 3:45hrs marathon? I tried the Max 20 miles out of the box, and my legs felt battered because the midsole was very firm. Yes, the tongue shifted even after I relaced all laces underneath the red rubber loop. The Glycerin 20 was softer but so much heavier, I worried it will be a drag towards the last miles of a marathon. Tq

    To me it fitted a little wide. I'd need to go down a half, but I hated the rocker feel. In terms of fit, the Nike Pegasus is perfect... but a little firm and not as good as the old models.

    Can anyone from DoR comment on how this compares to the Skechers Razor Excess? Thanks in advance :)

    • @scottdouglas4848
      @scottdouglas4848 Před rokem +4

      I'm no doctor of running, but...
      For me, if you mean version 1 of the Razor Excess, the Hyperion Max is a better do-it-all shoe. I love the Razor Excess--loaded up on version 1 at clearance--but after too many days in a row in it, I start to want to wear something else. Not so with the Max. Also, for me, the Max feels better on shorter, faster reps than the Excess. Also also, on long runs on asphalt, my feet start feeling tired/hot spotty in the Excess sooner than in the Max. Also 3#, Max outsole durability easily beats that of the Excess, which admittedly isn't saying much.
      As Andrea said, the Max's ride is initially firmer, a little less bouncy than that of the Excess. As you might have experienced, the Excess loses that bounce after a while, whereas the Max softens up a bit over time. So maybe they meet at 122 miles going in opposite directions.

    • @ammyers56
      @ammyers56 Před rokem +1

      I haven’t tested the Razor Excess, but thanks Scott for your insight!

    Is this basically an Hyperion Elite without a plate?

    Very interesting. I'd love to see a comparison with this an Hoka Mach 4 and 5. Have enjoyed the 4, but wished it was softer. Mach 5 seems to have gone too far in that direction for me as a daily trainer.

    • @ammyers56
      @ammyers56 Před rokem +2

      I found Mach 4 and 5 too soft and a little narrow in the toe box for me.

      Neither of the Machs have the same energy return.

    Couldn't you take your shoes to the neighborhood Shoeman & have him gusset up the tongue??
