In this video I explain what the 3 main Google ads keyword match types are, how they work and which one you should use.
A lot of Google Ads beginners get caught out by keyword match types.
Google's default keyword match type is broad match. But most advertisers shouldn't be using broad match for all their keywords.
Most advertisers would be better off using a combination of exact match and phrase match.
There are of course pros and cons of each Google Ads keyword match type and I cover it all here.

This is very valuable information for me, i lost $200 with broad match in past, no wonder why i was getting lots of impressions with very few people actually got interested in my ad, and i thought i was getting click fraud or download fraud, thanks alot ❤

Great content, Ben, thank you! Real scenario: what if I add a keyword as a phrase match and I notice that the best conversion is being done on that keyword in its exact form? Can I add it both as a Phrase, to squeeze clicks from all the variations, and as Exact match, to have more control over its Exact form budget (like bidding more on the Exact than on the Phrase keyword)?

The video brought some interesting principles to my notice. I suppose the audio is still a bit sketchy but for the informative part it was okay. Maybe I will watch something that they have done before.
What about custom segment audiences? Does google default to Broadmatch when setting it up using the radio button option 'terms searched for'? Do you need to use the brackets here too? Thanks so much.

Great videos, subscribed. In your example negative keyword FREE, if it's entered as a broad match negative keyword, does one need to add FREE as a phrase and exact match? Wouldn't the broad match cover all instances of the word FREE being searched?

Thanks very much for providing such a great video explanation. .Just wondering, if its best to exclude all broad match keywords using negative keywords - using your example of adding the broad match keyword 'interior design apprenticeships as a negative ..would that then mean that interior design keywords would also be excluded as well as apprenticeships?
Hi Sharon, no I don't think you want to go quite that far. Negative keywords are treated as more specific even with the keyword match types by Google so you wouldn't be excluding as many terms as you have suggested there.

In the planning phase, I usually evaluate the search keywords based on search volume, competition, and low/high range bidding amounts. So my question is, do these factors affect our keyword match type?
In general you would want to use more specific match types for keywords with larger search volume. But that isn't the primary consideration. The term itself is more important for determining that.

@10:46 you say that free would be good to add as a broad match type because your offering is not free and you want no association with that, however, what if the company wanted to introduce a free trial for their courses? Would it be best to set up this free trial as a seperate campaign/ad group? Would it be best to make [free] into an exact match?
In that case you wouldn't want to add free as a negative keyword.

Depends how smart they are and how hard they go at it but within 6 months you can develop quite a lot of proficiency

Generally speaking, I think there is better usage for those 15 minutes, but it is ok. What I just said, should be something you accept at your discretion I presume.

The artist did a good job with this, but at times I became bored and went into another place in my mind. I am not sure creator’s fault but videos that I watch often hold my attention.
Overall a passable way of whiling away 15 minutes but not something I’ll rush back for again. Just go with that eh?
Broad Match is not an option anymore?
No it still is. In fact it's the default :)
Average is maybe, not awful but not excellent. But that is just my guess. I'm not remorseless about watching, though I'm not in hurry to say "I have seen it!" to everybody else.
It is after watching this video now that I decided that I would want to share my perspective. To sum it all up- it was fun but water down a bit at certain points. The advice was good, and I followed it: we got rid of junk food and preferred eating fruits and vegetables.
I have to say that there were some funny side events sometimes, but a lot of times I felt bored and didn't know what to do because there was not much happening that would caught my attention. For movie you made, it is just my own preference that other folks may like it or not.
This video was okay for me, nothing special. I was totally cool with the atmosphere, on the other hand there were some moments that either were just like being stuck or didn’t make sense.
