This is something a bit off the beaten path from my usual animations! To spice up my animation reel for this year, and to get some more unique creature animation practice, I thought I’d bring an older model of mine to life! I made this T Rex model in 3DS Max, back in school 7 years ago; but that was before I’d learned anything about rigging or animation in 3D, and also before I knew much about Blender. I transferred it alongside all my other characters to Blender when I realized how much more versatile texturing and rigging are than in Max, and I’m thrilled to finally put it in action!
I’m actually quite the dinosaur fanatic, and having seen all Jurassic Park and World films, I’d always wanted to animate one! If you asked my child self to talk about something other than robots/aliens/knights/cartoons/videogames, I’d probably start a spiel about dinosaurs or dragons, haha. This is actually my first proper dinosaur animation!
This took longer than I wanted/anticipated because I finally gave in and took some time to learn more complex foot rigging so that I can properly pin feet at their toes, heels, and roll them.
