- Today is a special day for us! We will be traveling by train to Machu Picchu!
We started out our journey with the famous PeruRail Vistadome train to Machu Picchu. This is our first experience with a Peru Railway, and the panoramic Machu Picchu Train will follow the Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes route.
Our journey started in Cusco, where we took a colectivo (shared bus) to Ollantaytambo, a small town about two hours away from Cusco.
After the car ride, we started our Peru Rail Machu Picchu train journey from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Pueblo, or Aguas Calientes. A journey to Machu Picchu by train takes less than two hours.
We are spending the night in Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu - we have an appointed ticket to visit Machu Picchu the next day at 6am!

Hi guys. Yo quisiera estar ahí :)
Highly recommended :)
Hello guys! Thanks for the great videos!! My daughter and her boyfriend are traveling to Peru next month...doing Peru Hop and then Machu Picchu. Did you buy your Machu Picchu tickets through a tour company? I was wondering how far in advance you need them, and where to buy them?
Hello! I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos. Regarding Machu Picchu tickets, you can purchase them directly through the official website of the Peruvian Ministry of Culture or through authorized ticket sellers. It's recommended to buy your tickets in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons. The availability of tickets can vary, so it's a good idea to secure them ahead of time to ensure you get the date and entry time you prefer.
If your daughter and her boyfriend are traveling with a tour company like Peru Hop, they might provide assistance with ticket arrangements as part of their package. It's worth checking with the tour company to see if they include Machu Picchu tickets in their itinerary.
Additionally, please note that there are different ticket options available for Machu Picchu, including different entry times and options to include additional sites like Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Make sure to choose the ticket that suits their preferences and travel plans.
Remember to check the official website or consult the tour company for the most up-to-date information on ticket availability, prices, and booking procedures.
Did you go with a tour to get the bus/train/MP entry ticket or did you just book it all separately yourself?
We booked everything independently. Train and bus to MP (you'll be able to see them on the next vlog) are plentiful, however, Machu Picchu admission (and the two major hiking paths) is limited and have to book way ahead in advance.
Hey guys! I'm planning to travel to Cusco this year. Is it possible to take the train directly from Cusco, or do you have to get to Ollantaytambo first? Great videos btw.
Yup, you can take a train from Cusco directly to Aguas Calientes!

Hey! Really love this video. I am writing because I just rode with PeruRail and it was a really terrible experience. I just want to let people know that in 2024 that its a scam, so that they don't have to have the same experience as me. Overpriced, mean staff, the bus was smelly, gross, and bumpy. Overall, just avoid PeruRail now.
Oh, no way - that's very unfortunate
