When Gaddafi Invited the League of Ireland to Libya

- Colonel Gaddafi, revolutionary leader, dictator, and paramilitary funder… but also a football fan. He also had a strong relationship with Ireland, be it in funding the Provisional IRA or in the mutually beneficial beef trade between the countries, Gaddafi was even familiar with the political leanings of different parts of the country. So maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he invited a combined League of Ireland team to play in Benghazi, yet a surprise it was.
For a deeper dive into this I recommend RTE’s documentary - “In League With Gaddafi” if you can find it online.

I love Ireland, from Libya.
'Libya will never leave Ireland and Palestine. Their struggle is our struggle.' - Mu'ammar Gaddafi
Much love ❤ from cork eire ❤
Thanks to the Ireland people from Libya🇱🇾 👍
And thank you to the people of libya brothers in arms🇮🇪🇱🇾
The Libyans are great o'l lads
libya was cool but i would rather it be remained there
Thank you for helping ús against our oppressors. I was sad when Gaddafi died
Gaddafi was a good man and definitely not a dictator
Fairplay to him for helping out the IRA
Gaddafi was a criminal rapist of Lybia for 40 years. Does a "good man" expropriates power and wealth and lives of his country during decades??? Can a "good man" kill any of his citizens at anytime? He just played IRA for his own cause against Usa. And in the meantime he was raping girls.
Agreed
@@allisnotwhatitseems. Agreed what? Kadafi good man ou Kadafi the rapist dictator?
Thanks Gaddafi from Ireland
Love for Ireland, from Libya.
We are brothers in struggle.
In Ireland Britain and Ireland fought but Gaddafi evened up the score for the Irish lol

I really like you videos. I hope you do some more. I never heard if this story. Now I feel inclined to go to Ireland and watch a match. I think Longford Town would be my team.
Cork Ireland 🇮🇪 loves Libya 🇱🇾 ❤❤
❤️
We as Libyans are proud of our support to the free and honourable people of Ireland.
Brothers in struggle.
Libyan Gaddafists are always your family.
6:55 the Libyan dinar was useless? HA the Libyan dinar in the 80s was 1 Libyan Dinar=$3.5 USD buddy I don’t know where you got that from
Not sure why Irish players would care what it's worth in dollars? You wouldn't find many Irish banks exchanging Libyan Dinar for Irish pounds in the mid-1980s...
@@SeeDuffy
Because the Libyan currency wasn’t allowed to be exchanged
Really weird watching this having been born and raised in Ireland but being from Libya lol. My parents were some of the first Libyans to immigrate here when the Libyan government began financing study abroad. Interesting video !!
Lover your videos

That Reagan burn was hotter than the burns he has in hell right now
He was hot in Hollywood
💚 🇮🇪
Dictator is wrong
It depends.. but someone like gaddafi would have been much better than the USA's "democracy"
@@ayhemshaban9745 i am Libyan, and Gaddafi was the best that ever happend to our country. He was brutally killed by non-Libyans.
@@monkeyonthecar9777 he died because of al qaida that were let free by the cia, and then his army got bombed by Nato, france, netherlands, poland and usa. he was killed byt terrorists. he funded rebels who were fighting against colonization and illegal occupation. like Palestine, Ireland, western sahara and Cuba. he was killed because he was helping the world get rid of people that ruin the earth. he got rid of evil but was killed by evil.
@@monkeyonthecar9777 no, he funded freedom fighters. Ireland is Ireland and not UK.
@@monkeyonthecar9777 let's not look at the awefull things the UK has done.
