For the majority of Irish football fans, the Premier League is what they have on every weekend. Attendances for matches in Ireland are remarkably low and have been for some time. An Irish consortium attempted to rectify this by bringing the Premier League to Ireland by purchasing Wimbledon FC. An attempt which came closer to reality than a lot of people think. Ultimately, Ireland never got their Premier League team and Wimbledon was moved instead to Milton Keynes to the relief of League of Ireland fans and dismay of Eamon Dunphy.
