  • Here's a rare occasion where the lads totally diss a kilt-related product.
    SPOILERS BELOW
The Overkilt, (over-kilt?) is a novelty product created a couple of years back that combines a very simple utility kilt with.....overalls.
Yes, like Mr. Green Jeans down on the chicken farm OVERALLS.
Is this the future fashion we must embrace?
Are men's rompers and jumper dresses for men the garments we will wear as we explore the cosmos with Jeff Bezos? I mean it IS practical, right? lots of pockets. Looks great when you're shoveling coal for your steam locomotive...

I have a repro WW1 apron and have worn it for camping, also in the workshop. Very practical for keeping the kilt clean, especially when cooking outdoors.
    Got mine online.

I've been wearing a custom pair of Carhart bib overalls cutoffs (think overall shorts) with no shirt as the director of public sporting event where the temps get into the low 90s. Youd be surprised how many compliments I get from women. A friend of mine who wears many different kilts told me about the Overkilt. It seems like a logical improvement for what I need.

Having had a grandfather who served with the Seaforth Highlanders (1st Battalion) in the Great War, I would be ABSOLUTELY interested in an episode specifically addressing the highland regimental uniforms of the era! I have a photo of my grandfather in uniform, but a lot of the detail is too difficult to make out in the old black & white, and less than perfectly focused, shot.

LOL, I have one 🤣😂🤣, for someone who doesn't wear pants anymore, it's perfect for doing home projects. No different than carpenter jeans. Apologies for the offense 🤷🏾‍♂️

I don't see what is so wrong with it. It looks like a work apron. The workshop doesn't care if you are stylish.

Yeah, I think it is a great idea. It puts the function of overalls with the convince of taking a piss that a kilt offers. When I get the money I'm getting me one for sure. I remember how much of a pain in the ass my overalls as a kid were. If you've ever had to take a piss with overalls on you know just how time consuming it is..

Haha no. I have a utility kilt, tool belt, and a shop apron. Select the combo I need for the project. And if I _really_ need more coverage, I have coveralls; but that means I’m also putting on jeans.

Actually, if you made the "overkilt" in leather, or fire resistant fabric, it would make a good work apron for blacksmiths. I would wear pants with it though. Sparks on the lower legs are not fun.

I could actually see a legitimate function for an overkilt utilitikilt if it had the pockets for a carpenter and/or was made in leather for labor that required such protection. It's not such a bad idea functionally but it definitely wouldn't strike me as a good fashion choice.

I have a stone carving workshop business where I set up workshops to allow people to experience the art form with guidance from myself and my accomplished instructors. In any event I wear kilts full Time and it is a bit of a trade mark that we wear kilts in the work shop. I could see value in the over kilt as a work apron alternative with pockets for tools and equipment to use in the process of carving

Okay, I absolutely want one of those overkilts!!!! I think it's a great idea. It combines the usefulness of overalls and the quick access to needing to going to the bathroom that a kilt offers. To me it's great, and doesn't really look any different than if you had overalls shorts. I used to have those as a kid. overalls shorts I mean.

  • @wchicks01

I think it’s more a case of utility kilt meets overalls. Another American twist to kilts, I don’t hate it, and I don’t have any money I want to spend on it.

While I am not a fan of the overkilt, it looks to me like a combination of a shop apron with a Utilikilt.

Honestly from what I remember from acestors who wore kilts and worked in their fields, they just wore an apron over their kilt to keep it from getting dirty if that was their concern, they also would wear an apron over a shirt and trousers too. As far as they Overkilt goes though, I'm not going to judge that, but what I will say is I wouldn't wear one.

You may not like the idea, but present me another oiption to hold up my kilt when belts won't do it and most suspenders are too weak to hold up a kilt plus my tools....
how about at least a kilt with snaps and matching suspenders to use them?

As someone who owns a few kilts from damn near kilt em (cheep as dirt and decent for messing about or doing yard work) I cringed so hard my brain hurt, and facepalmed hard enough to break my nose. That abomination of a kilt should never have been a thing. All that said, love the show and I'm saving up for a proper kilt from you fine folks.
