- his is what Sharjah's future mode of transport will look like. Once the high-speed electric sky pods become functional, these Sky Pods will cover 2.4km in less than a minute travelling at 120km/hr. Currently, it travels at a speed of 40km/hour, covering a nascent track of 400 metres. The passenger model can bear a load of four tonnes (with passengers), and the cargo model is capable of delivering 12-metre containers. Initial safety trials are complete even as a longer test track is in the pipeline expected to commence operations ahead of the start of Expo 2020 in October 2021. The path-breaking skyway system was conceptualized in Minsk by Dr Anatoli Unitsky, a scientist and a transport philosopher. GUYS I HAD A CRAZY IDEA THAT COULD MAKE THIS EVEN BETTER!!!
1. MAKE MORE PODS FOR CAPACITY ALMOST LIKE A LONG LINE TOGETHER.
2. PUT IT ON GROUND TO SAVE COSTS AND MAKE IT SAFER TO RIDE (done with two bars and wheels).
3. PUT OVERHEAD WIRES TO DRAW ELECTRICITY.

First, what is futuristic in cable-car going slightly faster than a bicycle? This technology was around at least from 1936. Second, what is its effect in solving the Sharjah-Dubai traffic problem? 0.01% improvement?

This is a stupid form of transport, its inefficient, expensive and extremely low capacity. Normal light rail, a full metro or even bus rapid transit would work better than something like this - it would be more efficient, have a much higher capacity, faster and light rail or BRT would be significantly cheaper. Its not about what looks cool, but what gets the job done right, and this thing does it wrong. What is it with calling something a "pod" that gets people excited. Just use a normal train!

@@mushy111 it is not cable car.. Cable car can reach speeds 20-40 kmh, skypods will reach 150 km/h on longer tracks, looks like cable car, but technology is completely different.

@@kcjta Focus on the future when you have fixed the basics first. Would be better to invest that money in usable roads and parking spaces that aren't gravel and full of holes that damage your vehicle and get dust and sand through everything. Then perhaps do something that's actually useful like partner with Dubai to extend the metro into Sharjah. A few little pods looks nice and futuristic but thousands upon thousands of people need to commute each day.

Usually when the word "pod" is used in a transportation system, it means that it's a needlessly overcomplicated, very low capacity and extremely inefficient transportation system that nobody asked for.
It's a variant of a cable car. They reinvented the cable car. But they made it look futuristic. That's all.
Literally every "innovation" since the 2010s has been "inventing" an old idea, making the innovation look ultra-futuristic and calling them pods.
Also check your maths. 120km/h = 33.3m/s
33.3m/s for 60s = 2000m
2000m < 2.4km
Make it between shj and dubai good 👍
