  • Properly socializing a new Great Dane is one of your most important tasks as their owner! Having a giant and unruly Great Dane could be dangerous to them as well as those around them, and would lead to a less than fulfilling life.
    The obvious approaches to puppy socialization include going on walks, taking them to the dog park, or playing with other dogs but these are just the tip of the iceberg! In addition to the obvious ways, try mixing in these 7 uncommon approaches to socializing your Great Dane.
    Exposing your dog to a variety of situations, animals, and even surfaces can make an immense difference in their level of comfort with new situations later in life.

      Welcome to the dane family! We have owned 8 so far and just love them! This channel has helped me learn new ways to care for my current dane. Our current dane is completing courses to become a therapy dog. This will be the first time we have done this with any of our danes. Totally on board with early socializing your dane puppy, is a must. Any way I can help you, please ask.

      @@julanakeiser1449 I have a question, can a great dane live with a chihuahua and another small dog if its brought up from a puppy or will it inherit a hunting instinct as it grows?

    Hiya! new Great Dane owner here, we are picking up our Great Dane puppy (11 months) on Friday this week.
    One of my biggest concerns is how to stop them from stealing food when it is human meal time. I have had smaller dogs and stopping them has not been hard, mainly because the table is out of reach, or you can put the food out of their reach. But a Great Dane's head is the perfect height for whatever is on the table, kitchen bench, etc, with ease.
    So I guess, I would like to see a video on how to stop a Great Dane from eating whatever is at their reach.
    we are loving the channel ❤️

    My Saturn practically socialized herself. She liked everyone. We lived behind an elementary school separated by woods. At recess she had escaped the fenced yard to go play with the kids. Understandably some people got afraid of my gentle giant so police call to come get her. So I'd take minivan and open back door and she'd climb in looking guilty. I'd talk to her about it like she really understood me.

    Love your Channel. I got my Great Dane at 10 weeks old. It was easy to nip any bad behaviors in the bud, before developing any bad habits. It was also easier to socialize her by going to the vet, groomer or PetSmart. There are other dogs and strangers. MUCH, MUCH easier to do so while the Dane is at such a young age.

    I enjoy your site. Question: My Lily is 16 mo old. She is well trained on all the basics. We live in the tic infested, deer crossing Ozarks, so all our walks at home are on lead. No Problem. When the opportunity arises to let her go free play at a large park or wherever possible....how did you know when you could trust Gus to stay close and come when called. Lilly is fine in our home yard, but it scares me to try it somewhere else. Thanks

    My Dane actually rescued me, but I rescued Murphy almost 6 months ago. I have several questions and while I am going through your videos there are a few things you are not addressing. I'll try and write them In the current topic.
    What about cats? Murphy loves the chase. 3 acres that Murphy has access to allows him to run free and chase bunny's but he has included on his list are the house cats.
    He is so smart because I have 13 peacocks on the property and he knows they are a no no. He looks at me as if a dare.... same with cats.

    What would you suggest about Danes being over protective of the house? Our boy if fine and happy in any public place but as soon as any man walks in our house other than my husband he freaks out. He growls and barks and gets between me and the person.

    • @tbhwityouman9298
      @tbhwityouman9298 Před 4 lety +1

      Udhayan Theenan they are all amazing dogs!!! But some with trauma from past owners or being in shelters their whole life will take a lot of time for them to become used to you. They are very shy dogs but in all reality just big baby’s. They are very affectionate and loving they are great family pets as well. You will need to train them though because any dog without correct training can become aggressive so any Great Dane that speaks to you you will know at an instant. Hope this helps you out.

    I have a 14 month old dane and he will not let anyone but me and my husband by him. Even when our family members come to visit he will hide or completely avoid them. He will not let anyone touch him. I have had him since he was 8 weeks and I have taken him everywhere beaches, resturants everything but he gets so anxious and almost scared like if someone tries to come near him. he is my first dane is this common or is there things I can do to make him friendlier?

    • @GreatDaneCare
      @GreatDaneCare  Před 4 lety +3

      Definitely not common to that degree. Just take baby steps and slowly into him to new ppl and settings in small doses so that he can adjust. Bring a favorite toy or tasty treat to help encourage him
