- In this Victoria's Cantina review, we take a look at the latest offering in the Bandai Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts line of Star Wars 6-inch action figures. This time, it's Han Solo based on his appearance in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

Harrison Ford is one of the hardest head sculpts to do i reckon...this one nails it..even better than Sideshow...great stuff...
It does seem like most of these companies struggle to get his likeness down. This one does an excellent job at capturing not only the likeness, but his personality in that first movie. Thank you, SI FI!

I told myself I was going to hold out for an Empire Strikes Back version of Han, but the more I see this figure the more I'm tempted to pick it up. The size compared to the Hasbro one was quite shocking considering S.H. Figuarts' history.
I think it'll be a while until they begin the Empire figures... especially with Old Man Han coming out next. A New Hope is my favorite Star Wars movie, so I'm definitely going to be finishing the set. I would totally buy an Empire Han though since that's my favorite costume of his. :) I was surprised too at the height difference. Thanks for watching.

Asolutely agree about matte verses shiny, and you're the only other person I've heard call it out. Hasbro's figures always always look like they've been polished with armor all or something! When I think of Figuarts, Mafex, etc the first thing that comes to mind is the matte finish to their figures (except where something is supposed to be shiny of course, like armor,metal etc). It just looks more realistic and feels much higher quality. I don't know if Hasbro intentionally makes them shiny, if it's a side effect of the paint or cheaper plastic they use, but whatever the cause, they should try a matte finish, etc. Since they are now using face print tech, hopefully they'll up the look. One thing I wish the Figuarts would have had is a gun holding glove- the right one is just flat! :-) great review!
I have looked at various reference pics of the actors both in and out of the OT movies and from what I remember, Fords eye level meets the top of Hamills head.

I absolutely love this figure. The chest hair is what sold me on this figure, strangely enough. LOL
I'm already reading some critisism online of this headsculpt, the usual nit picking and the like. I'm astounded! Some people are impossible to please. This is the best likeness of han solo i have ever seen on a toy! Can't wait to get mine!
It's imperfect, but there's no doubt it's a very well-done head sculpt. Far better than most anything else out there.

I like The Black Series version too. It was good in 2013 and it's still good now.
No offense, guys, but the black series Han looks like a stunt double. The figuarts one looks way better.
i like it ban dai kills it with these figures i got a shogun warrior a while back and it is a very nice figure i might just pick one of these up nice review

Mine is still in the mail... 4:12 Chest hair and the Yellow leather flight gloves did it for me. This is the definitive Han in 6 inch IMO. Will match up perfectly with the Hasbro Chewy. 8:40 Bandai Chewy is WAY too short according to the numbers they put out and judging by the photos. Great looking fig, Holster is a little weird though. 9:20 Mark Hamhill 5'9" Ford 6'1".

This is why I subscribed and visit the Cantina. Awesome video. You hit the nail on the head with your comments and comparisons to Black Series figures. The paint on this Han is almost perfect. The flat black on the vest is film accurate, and just looks better. The "shiny" look the Black series has doesnt look right. It's not bad..heck I have almost the entire series. But these S.H. Figurarts are another step up over Black Series. And his face sculpt...PERFECT. I'm so waiting for the Leia. Hoping they do a better face sculpt than Hasbro. Yikes the Black Series Leia was bad. Again I still have the figure so I dont mean to blast Hasbro but the Head Sculpt on Leia....awful. Thank you again. After seeing this video I KNOW I'm getting a 10/10 Han figure.
Just got my S.H.Figuarts Phasma. This line just keeps impressing me. I REALLY wish I got the Luke A New Hope figure. I wasnt sure. Now I'm sold. Now to find a seller here. One more THANK YOU. :)
Wow, thank you for the praise and kind words! I do like the Black Series Han for what he is... but there's little argument that can be made for what he isn't. Lanky limbs and a long neck, plus the glossy paint make him feel like a toy. Ultimately I'm happy to have both, but there's no way I'd interchange them in my displays. There's too much of a difference. Have you seen the Black Series Leia 2.0? I've got a review of her coming very shortly. She looks so much better! Thank you for tuning in. :)

Your very welcome. I agree the BIG difference between the Black series and SHF is the level of detail. And you are so right. For what it is the Black series Han is fine. But the lack of detail in face and shiny wardrobe makes it like you said more of a toy. While the SHF is truly unique and the sculpt is amazing. So much so I ordered him earlier today. I have a haul coming in tomorrow. A SDCC Ben Kenobi(wanted since I saw it), a bunch of Attack of the Clones 3.75. Just got Dex and the waitress today. Tomorrow comes Shaak Ti and 18 others. I love the set pieces they come with. Your dioramas inspired me...and these extras are cool. Oh one more thing sorry. I heard the carded Leia was going to look a bit different... THANK GOD!! That head was awful. Ill be watching for it and your channel. I'd like to do a haul video but don't have the guts yet...lol. This one especially since I'm completing my Toy Biz Galactus BAF. Have Nightcrawler, Dr. Strange, abd War Machine coming. Have the rest. Also have the Wampa/Luke and Han/Taun Taun. Wanted the SDCC Jabba but he's way too $$$. Ok sorry I went off on a tangent again. just got mine, now I can sell my Hasbro Black Series version. I'm slowly replacing all my Hasbro Black series original Trilogy figures with the far superior SH Figuarts. I wish Sideshow would get into the 6 inch line.
I'm too much of a sucker and am keeping all of mine. Plus the Figuarts tend to be a little smaller, so I can't really display them together. Hope you like your Han!

To me this is the best Solo figure in that scale. I want to make a custom Falcon cockpit for him. Chewy seems a bit small from the prototypes photos.

Photos of this figure I saw made his face look all puffy and bad, but it actually is quite good.
How's the face/chest hair paint? Is the printing really noticeable?

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. As far as the "good guys" go, I really like TPM Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, and Jedi Luke. I think the ANH Luke looks a little more film accurate but Jedi Luke is just a more fun figure for some reason. My favorite of all of them though is Maul, though obviously he's not a hero character.
I think the overall aesthetics are far superior than hasbros, but (articulation hindrance aside) dont the knee and elbow joints bother you? they just stand out too much for me.
They do stand out, and that's one of the bigger complaints with Figuarts. It's not as noticeable on figures like Darth Maul or Jedi Luke, but on a lighter colored figure like this you see them more. I can live with it, but I hope they find a better option at some point.

Yeah, I recommending buying them directly from Japan from shops like Hobby Link Japan or AmiAmi.

I ordered it from HobbyLink Japan. The Japanese online shops usually get them first.
Joe Eversole I think the figure cost about $48 when they charged me. I shipped three other figures with it and that came to $24 for expedited shipping. Not sure what it would be on a single figure but you can email them with the item number and get a quote. They let you save up your orders in their warehouse to save on shipping costs.

His face makes him look like a chubby dad
I am impressed but not impressed with the face. It looks more like Jim Morrison to me. And the glassy finish hair on these figures is creepy as all get out.
I don't know if I'd say he's creepy... I don't think the likeness is perfect, but I think it's dang good. They captured the personality quite well.

It's intended to look like a highlight. I'm not a big fan of it though. It's my least favorite thing about these figures. At the very least it's not as bad as some of the previous ones. The Captain America figure was super shiny.
