Not to mention their total complacency when the concerns were brought to their attention. You are minimizing the real issues in this particular case to simply bad parenting. No. This shouldn’t be the precedence for every crime committed by someone’s children. But it should certainly act as an eye opener to some parents that it is possible to be held as your brother’s keeper, or child’s as the case may be.

The kid cried out for help multiple times and the parents ultimately ignored and then fueled his rage and armed their son in the process knowing full well the demons he was dealing with. After seeing everything that was made public in this case I think the parents pushed their son to do this bc they wanted the publicity. They didn’t care how they go lt. What he did is inexcusable. Showing “no remorse” (however horrible) is not a criminal offense, as in, it’s not against the law. The law is not emotional. Are all parents going to start going to prison when their children, young or old, commit heinous acts? It’s more than implied that if your child/children commit these types of crimes you are now seen as responsible and punished for not somehow stopping them before hand. What parent has an eye on their kids 100% of the time? What parents are the only influencers in a child’s life? What children aren’t on the internet guided by a million other “influencers” in the world? Where will this precedence setting case end? Maybe it’s just gun owners who have children that commit these crimes who will end up in prison.
      I understand being angry at the parents of these very disturbed juveniles and they should be held accountable in some way but be careful what you wish for. God forbid you get a phone call one day about what your child did without your knowledge or permission to the irreconcilable detriment of the lives of others.

    I say this as a person who grew up in the military and gun culture. My father taught me to shoot when I was 5, and gave me my first gun, a .22 revolver, when I was 12.
    Parents are legally responsible for the actions of their children. That's a real thing, and this decision reinforces that.
    If other gun advocate parents are scared by this decision, they should be. Be a responsible parent. It's really easy: don't give your unbalanced teen a gun; keep your weapons under lock and key; and when professionals at the school tell you they are concerned, PAY ATTENTION.

      The school had no knowledge of Ethan’s access to a handgun.
      That’s not their job. Their job is to teach.
      The parent’s job was to care, listen and to look out for Ethan.
      They failed miserably in every aspect and other children are dead due to their negligence.

    • @CreaticityIsLife
      @CreaticityIsLife Před 2 měsíci +1

      The school was trying to help Ethan - they saw the red flags and understood he needed help. The parents not only made no attempt to help their child, they obstructed the school from putting into effect any plan to help their kid. They withheld essential info from the school. You can argue that the school should have done more, but the thinking was that Ethan was suicidal and his parents did not care. When the parents are actively obstructing the path to help, it complicates the situation for the school to effectively respond.

  • @ImportedPatriot91

    Definitely a dysfunctional family, but i question if this is actually justice. The schools trained counselors and mental health experts said they did not believe Ethan was a danger to himself or others before the shooting, yet the uneducated parents were expected too. Also securing the gun is a weird angle considering there is not a state law in effect here nor any federal law requiring guns and ammunition be secured in a locked location.

      @@Sam-hb7gu With all due respect, that's a ridiculous stance to take. Evaluating someone's mental health stability has nothing to do with thier immediate access to weapons in thier parents room. Theres the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. People should not only obey the letter of the law, but to use common sense. To buy and then leave an unsecured gun within reach of a unstable kid who is hallucinating about demons is the height of foolishness. Ethan was self medicating with alcohol because his parents refused to get him checked out.
      Now how many families are shattered because of these two selfish people? Not only are those 4 children lost, but any children they may have had as well. How much counseling will all of Ethans fellow students and teachers need? How many marriages will end because of the violence that was unleashed because of these two selfish idiots?
