Surefire vs Inforce vs Olight - Vampire Illuminator Comparison

- Side by side comparison of three "vampire" style white/infrared combination lights. The Surefire M300V, the Inforce WML IR, and the Olight Odin IR. More proof that the milliwatt rating of the illuminator matters less than the design of the reflector and the placement of the emitter.

If you want to buy these, use these links and I get money to buy more stuff to review that you will then buy. It's a vicious cycle but a fun one:
amzn.to/3LATFq4 - Surefire M300V (ideal helmet mounting requires a Unity Remora)
amzn.to/37b2TKN - Unity Remora for Peltor mounts
amzn.to/377x4CD - Inforce WML IR (ideal helmet mounting requires a Thyrm Variarc)
amzn.to/3J21WRY - Thyrm Variarc for ARC rails - Sport
Listening to this, thru one ear bud, with the volume very low, was a very sensual experience.
😂

Hop, your videos are always straight to the point, but this is shorter than James' shorts.
I'd argue that the Surefire is still the overall winner.
The Odin would be the clear winner if it didn't have that dark region in the center that makes it basically a flood light. A projector lens would fix that Olight design.
It'd be the one I'd pick also, based on this video.
Olight has a ton more issues than a dark ring. They have a significant output drop after just a couple minutes of constant use, very low candela, and more... But if you're putting an IR light on a rifle, it's reasonable to assume that the IR capabilities is arguably the primary reason to have that light. And flood is not generally a redeeming feature of an IR rifle light. So even if Olight's were reasonably well made lights, I don't see the Odin even being in the competition. Sure you could add to it. But in its factory configuration, it is outclassed by most other popular lights.
I am considering the inforce 400 for a helmet light I think it plays into a good choice
For the first time in a long time, I turned the audio as high as I can, absolutely wonderful
Surefire is the clear winner in throw. Hop is the clear winner in pitch and timbre. Hoplo-podcast when?
Loving your upload volume recently, keep pushing videos and I'll keep watching (:
ASMR Hop narrating James in Short Shorts.
i really appreciate the last 20s of the video, nothing needs to be said other than showing the lights. as always, great video.
Would love to see the Weltool LH2 head thrown into the mix. Dedicated IR, but direct replacement for modlite 18650/18350 light heads.
Def shows the price difference. I do love the inforce design though, I just wish they had a momentary only version where the switch just changed from light to IR. I hate the constant on/hold for momentary switches of basically every light made now…
Agreed
I will stick with my inforce after the shitty surefires I had overseas. Almost everyone switches on surefires with bad before we even got in country. No replacements. A lot of us ended up having to get our own flashlights. Not many options for rail mounted flashlights in 2010. Duct tape was used on whatever we could get.
This is why I still don't have a sure fire today. From what I've heard, their switches are still terrible
Thanks for keeping your voice down at night in your videos.
Two vids in one day. What have we done to deserve this?!

Hey Hop, I recently subscribed as I love your straight to the point no bias reviews. I have a Sig MPx and have the 4" (limited on rail space). Would you go with a vampire + IR laser combo (such as the Surefire vampire with the Holosun 321 (2 separate items) and have the flashlight mounted on the side, or would you just get the Holosun 321G that has everything built in (flashlight, IR Ill., IR laser)? I know the Holosun isn't great at distance but this is for CQB room clearing PCC so I wouldn't need anything crazy powerful. Thanks!
I listened to this with one hand.
Your other hand was busy typing this comment, right?
Right?
I lost my other hand last year in an accident. I listen to everything with one hand, now.
What were you assuming?
Another banger of a video as always. Just out of curiosity, would a Steiner CQBL-1 paired with a Surefire Vampire be a good competitor against IR devices with built in illuminators?
Nope
good stuff.
Also mech 5 overview when?
I pick Olight IR for the carbine setup if it can be lighter. I'm sure they will works on the next odin 2 IR..
The illumination is not adjustable like the Kiji IR light but I still would like to see a comparison of the Modlite 850 IR head and the M600DuelFuel Surefire Body compared to the Kiji IR at certain distances.
Hop, 🤔Do you Use the " Sionyx Pro " to Film these Night Vision Test Vids ? (I remember u saying that would be Your only use for it Since it was useless without IR illumination) Thanks Again for the Vids 😊👍
Good video, thank you
ASMR Hop lol
Your background looks so beautiful. Is that in Alaska?
It’s like just cause this was a nighttime setting Hop decided to make an ASMR video. 🤔😂
Here we have video evidence Hop is not from this world. ENHANCE fellow frogs! And behold the unnatural green sky of his home world Wormulon. Good info though. Lack of Quad and Slurms McKenzie though.
Party on, contest winners.
Idk if this was based on my comment from the other vid but the Inforce WMLx G2 is rated for 400mW ir. Probably still wont beat the Surefire but it would probably be closer than the other 2.
I'm pretty confident that the x version would be almost indistinguishable from the single cell version. The placement of the emitter in the reflector assembly is garbage, no matter how much power they push it's not going to do anything.
Thanks
Hop, Steiner's website says that the DBAL I2-9007 is discontinued. What do you know? Is there a replacement coming, or are they dropping the whole idea on an IR laser/illuminator-only unit? I'm asking because the I2 units are still available at a few sites for $850.
Good info 🇺🇸
Here for the tingles
I'm trying to try and watch the full video but i keep falling aslee...
asmr hop lol. nice video brotha
Hey what's up Cap
@@Hoplopfheil sup brotha!
Hey Hop, why does surefire and stream light make such a Low visible light lum number? 300-350? Streamlight HD capability with IR would rock.
you totally need a weltool ir head. It is too bright, and has great flood with a far reaching hot spot. It is too much in some scenarios, which has me looking at difussers or possibly drilling out a scope cap.
Hop can you review the primary arm 3x micro prism, my feed is flooded with payed/shilled reviews and you’re the only guy I can trust
Brass Facts is testing one right now, you can trust him.
The Odin IR has now been discontinued
asmr Hop should make a return for all things nightvision at Shotshow 2023
Hey, hop. Id love to see a video about shooting with night vision and lasers to 100m, 200m or 300m. How feasable is it? (Both passive and active).
I've done it, and it's tricky. Unless you're weapon mounting your nods, shooting past 75yrds starts getting difficult. The first issue is the clarity of your tubes trying to see past 100yrds, you need to make sure your laser is zeroed for 200/300, and then you need to be able to see that your laser is actually on the target at that distance. I could barely see my laser on steel at 200. If you want to go the passive route you'll be able to shoot past 100 much easier, however you may need something like the D2 to really punch some IR light out at that distance
Good info
Throw a scope cap on the surefire to help with the flood
Been looking around for a weapon mounted flashlight and it's hard to see the redeeming qualities of the expensive Surefires until I saw this video. In IR, they're definitely king but that's mainly because of the washout issue. It seems like properly focused lumens are the main thing to have where as for a visible spectrum light, lumens and candela from the Cree emitters in things like Acebeam or Nitecore or Thrunite really dominate all the other brands from Surefire and Cloud defensive to similarly priced stuff like O-Light....
It's completely beyond me why the worst flashlights are always the most expensive. Made in America is cool and all... but if we can't even make a regular flashlight for $300+ that competes with a $60 chinese made one in terms of performance or even durability on a lot of them than it's like... Well, how do you justify it?
Not to be unpatriotic but it just kind of matters.
Hop, don't get me worked up like that before the kids are in bed
Nice to see you again, got unsubbed somehow... thought you were on hiatus or something, thanks youtube
Tactical nukes are how I see in the dark
So what's the solution? An IR laser, an IR laser based focused illuminator, and an IR floodlight?
Vampire lights have a niche application and it is NOT for use as a weaponlight.
I'm disappointed at Olight. I would expect them to have come out with a better IR emitter that would focus like a DBAL to corner the market.
People who buy IR lights still wouldn't buy o light... Because Olight duh
@@epapa737 my baldir lazer looses 0 all the time. Putting blue locktite on the 0ing screws and seeing how that'd work.
Whatever happened to the “poor vs expensive comm setup” vid?
I may be stupid but isn't blasting an IR lamp at a camera lens bad for it
no
It's not a styropyro level ir emitter.

Whats your opinion on the normal inforce WML white light?
If inforce could sort the electronics out they could be a great product.
I have an inforce WML that I use for helmet illumination because it was so unreliably bad I can't put it anywhere else that wouldn't be considered "for administrative purposes only". I had flickering and cutout issues constantly. Ergonomically they're great but they would be better if they could accept surefire heads. Their actual vis output is meh to "it works".
Yeah what he said

I’m actually surprised at the enforce
Inforce Gen 2 IR on Amazon for $105 rn.. Somebody talk me out of it (as a helmet light)
It's a good option for a helmet light, send it.
