17:22 lovely shot of the old Sheridan Stand (1909-1985) that stood at the Paddington End of the SCG.
Interesting fact with this stand was it was demolished on March 20, 1985 during a Sheffield Shield match, play was halted during a session to allow the demolition crew to knock it down, dust, metal and bricks went everywhere.
The lovely green roof draped over the concourse in front of it like a blanket as play resumed!
The gap next to it was the old Brewongle Stand (1881-1977) to the right of it, named after the tea rooms beneath it, was demolished in 1977 and was eventually replaced with the current Brewongle Stand in 1980.

Wow. I was at the ground that day. Toohey running himself out was so disappointing. Sergeant took forever to score that four and then played an awful shot. Hughes and Mann easily done by Bedi. Great cricket but really only a good Sheffield Shield side playing for Australia. They still won series 3-2. Watching Bedi and Chandra that series was some of the most enjoyable cricket I have seen.

    Jai Galagali
GRV, like Doug Walters and ML Jaisimha and Chandra was a legendary ‘relaxer’ after a game.
I lived and worked in Sydney from early 70s and we had our Mysore ex Ranji Captain, V Subramanya also living in Sydney.
After the first day’s play and after the 30 minutes “Highlights” from 10:30 - 11pm, we used to gather together for dissection of the day’s game, of course, our voice boxes lubricated by copious quantities of the bottled mirth !
That night we talked about talking Thommo and Hogg. And the delightful discussions continued till the wee hours, probably 2 am , and then we all parted to our rooms and homes.
Next morning, if I remember correctly, both Sunil and Dilip Vengsarkar departed soon after resumption. Vishy, still under , came out to bat and Thommo did not make it easy. He was bowling at speeds far in excess of 90 mph !
And the delightful stroke play of GRV , his cuts, square drives and flicks were a treat for all assembled.
Bill O’Reiley commenting said this Bangalore Boy must have biceps like a blacksmith as his shots used to race to the boundary like a tracer bullet !
Mani ( V Subramanya) and I were watching from Nobel Stand , drinking beer, with Mani commenting “ KV, you are looking at a fine Century by Vishy” when to our horror, Thommo bowled him with an inswinger , GRV being 79 !
Those legendary days will never return with the modern late night curfew !
They were made of sterner stuff !!

I migrated to Australia from Bangalore,, India in 1974. I studied at National High School and many good Cricketers including EASPrasanna, BS Chandrashekhar, VSVijayakumar et al also studied.
GR Vishwanath was at Fort High School and used to play Tennis Ball Cricket in our NHS field in early 60s. I also played though not at their level!
I played cricket in Sydney along with our ex Mysore Ranji Captain V Subramanya in City and Suburban tournaments for a number of years.
In 1977, I was working as an Engineer at WD & H O Wills, Kensington, Sydney.
Vishy was and is a personal friend of mine and we got together whenever he came to Australia as part of Indian or private cricket teams. Of course Chandra and the rest of Mysore Cricketers were all together and we used to reminisce days of bygone Mysore cricket under V Subramanya over a few beers in our home.

Great share !! Although Australian side was little down & playing sans their impactful cricket faces due to a parallel league cricket crisis that plagued their country during this series , reminding of last series India played in Australia , yet they fought hard under the astute leadership of 41-year- old Bob Simpson who was called back from retirement especially to guide Australian team & eventually showed them the success, unlike what happened in the last tour..

Simpson's comeback was remarkable - I think I'm right in saying he hadn't played first class (Sheffield Shield) cricket for several before he was recalled as Test captain. I believe he stepped straight from grade cricket into a test match. He was a success both as batsman and captain in this series.

The commentators made a horrible mess of this at 12.05. The catch was not misjudged it was perfectly caught! The fielder who had taken this great catch, was wrongly called Bhagwat Subramanya Chandrasekhar! They then realise it is not him, they then believe Mohinder Amarnath has caught the ball, when in fact, Karsan Devjibhai Ghavri had taken the catch. How pathetic!

best part of the series is Gavaskar scored 4 centuries I think...Vishwanth no century..but Vishwanath's total runs of the series is more than Gavaskar,,, without a century
