Thank you for uploading this recording of the third day of the Brisbane Cricket Test match, which we all got to only hear on Radio back in those years. The Television came along only around the New Delhi Asian Games for us in India. A couple of observations I would like to make here: 1. Chandra was always my favorite Bowler, because I too bowled Leg-Spin-Googlies and Top Spinners. However, watching him in this recording makes me feel that while we listened to the Radio Commentators only, how much of their skills were overtly or covertly enhanced with the articulation of the greats Anant Setalvad, Susheel Doshi, Dicky Ratnagar, Jasdev Singh, and many more... I couldn't recognize the Aussie Commentarors, but I put on my headphones when one of them was saying "Off Break" for Chandra's Googlies! LOL... 2. Bishen Singh Bedi looked pretty ordinary, maybe that's the big difference we can see and learn from watching on TV and hearing them only on Radio earlier. His Flighted balls were famously made deceptive for greatest of batsmen to get out because of Bedi's clever loops and beating the batsmen in the air. However, in this match that didn't seem like happening. 3. Madan Lal has always been a great fighter, and his Bowling action was also deceptive because he ran in quickly and bowled at half pace, just like Mohinder Amarnath did. 4. Erapalli Anant Rao Srinivas Prasanna was also not at his best in this match, somehow. I'd love to watch his 8-Wicket Haul bowling spell!

Not forgetting the ice-cream that was served to us at the end of the meeting every Saturday. I always offer food for at least few needy people on your every birthday,October 12th.Well,that's what u taught us! Thanks for sharing this. I didn't know it existed. I was in High School and we were let out to see the Indians in action all 9 days that the Indians Played at Boarda in Guyana. The 4 days match against the Guyana National Side and the 5 days test a few days later. By the time they got to Bourda they had just secured the win in Trinidad. The ground was packed almost every day. Guyana and Trinidad and Suriname are three neighboring counties a large Indian Population. Govindraj, who most kids adored cause he was as fast a Uton Dowe but he was not needed in the test. Jayantilall scored a century at Bourda in the Local match. Vishwanath, Solkar, Durani, Abid are names I am very familiar with. Cheers. Jewan Charran.

Asking a question just to bring out emotions of the viewers… we all know how the English team used to “steal” the wickets and win the test matches. Was it right for our captain Vishwanath to call back Taylor? After all that decision probably turned the match…

Kapil Dev is probably the greatest cricketer India has ever produced. Till his arrival on cricketing scene, India was not known for its medium fast bowlers. India had a rich legacy of world class spinners but there wasn't any single new ball medium pacer ball who had made a mark in cricketing arena. Kapil changed all that. With his medium paced fast bowling, inswings, outswings, bouncers etc he soon became a force to reckon with. With his hard hitting batting coming as a bonus he soon established himself as a top notch all-rounder of tha era. His exploits on the cricket field were no less than the other great all-rounders of that era namely Ian Botham, Imran Khan and Sir Richard Hadlee. It is always said that fast bowlers hunt in a pair. Alas, Kapil didn't had an equally good medium pacer to support him at the other hand. For a good part of his career he simply waged a lone battle. He was a lone warrior who fought against all odd circumstances. He just turned the Indian cricket on its head in 1970s and 80s and became a darling of the nation. Winning World Cup in 1983 is just an icing on the cake. Indian Cricket owes a lot to this magnificent all-rounder.

This series is closer to the Bradman era than the Steve Smith/Michael Clarke era. They could play an entire series with only a couple of 6s hit back then, the occasional drizzle and bad light stopped play often. Batsmen grinding out runs at a painfully slow rate compared to nowadays, bowlers going for barely more than 2 runs per over, can you imagine watching this in the modern t20 era where they hit a couple of 4s or 6s every over? And yet I would choose this over t20 any day.

Bedi and a few others had played against Simpson in his farewell series in 1967-68 and got whitewashed 4-0 I expect they would have been quite surprised to come back to Australia for their 1st tour in 10 years and play against the same captain.

I had rushed home from school to eagerly turn on the TV only to find that Australia was 8/118 at tea and Bob Simpson after a 10 year retirement had been dismissed cheaply. I realized then that Australia was probably in for a very embarrassing one sided thrashing, and back then the Test series went right to the end of the summer well into February. India had easily beaten all the state teams in the leadup matches, if you could bet on cricket back then Australia would have been very much the long odds. Peter Toohey really looked a class above all the other Australian batsmen at the time but his career just fizzled out after that summer, as did most of his team mates.
