I feel if your veiwers all met up one day we would all have a chicken on our shoulders. My peeps❤
That would be epic.
😅So true! A couple of mine: Peace and Girly Shirlee are like that, but you gotta watch your back!
And your eyes. Lol 😅
We have a new baby, and my daughter is now calling her Pecky Becky. 😅😂❤-Wendy
My Jersey Black Giants would not fit on my shoulder lol. It’s all I can do to pick one up if it needs extra attention. But it’s a very lovely thought❤
You can plant winter rye in the fall in the empty pen so they still have greens going into winter
Ooh I may try that. I have some growing in my salad bars!
Great idea. Add to that other cover crops that chicken plus people can eat to create good soil health and veggies for all😊
Piccolina in italian means little one. It's a really sweet name
Sgt. Pickles...I love it
If you can get dandelions growing in that run space, the taproot helps disimpact the soil 😁
Good tip!
I use old rabbit cage tops (wire) and put them in the chicken run, sow various lettuce/pepper/radish, etc. seed mixes under the safety of the cage. The chickens eat what pops through that they can reach, but plants thrive inside. I don’t eat the plants - they’re solely for chicken snacks. 😊
That's a great idea!
I can't believe this!! I have been wondering, researching and praying for an answer to getting my backyard back! I only have two chickens, but they have destroyed my yard! God bless you for sharing this!!❤
Sometimes I wonder are these chickens or dinosaurs? LOL I'm so glad this was helpful!
Dear Dahlia, you are a real sweetie. "Pickles". I laughed out loud, being caught out by such an unexpected name. It was hilarious. I can't believe how fast the years have flown. I started watching you a couple of years before you moved to this place.
Thank you for being with Chickenlandia for so long!
If you plant buckwheat and clover it'll grow faster than grass and gives them a better thing to eat when they go back in there. Also the bees love buckwheat flowers.
I will have to try that!
I love, love watching your videos. You are adorable and your chickens are too. I have 10 chickens and you have helped me with them. Thank you, 😊.
I'm so glad!
LOL! Nope- no grass in the yard! 🤣
(I'm building the buffet boxes this weekend 😁)
🐔❤🐔
Dahlia you are AMAZING! Had a “little” tussle this morning with our rooster and was contemplating culling him. You made me feel much better…so Rocky lives for another day. ❤️ your happiness!
❤
And lol....
Salad bar is fantastic idea
Throw some clover down too.
The halo on the duck at 7:17
Thank you for the great idea about the chicken salad bar! I have a very small run but let the chickens free range a lot. But when we go on vacation it would be great for them to have greens right in their run when they can't come out and forage.
Thank you for the great idea. Salad bar.
Oh yes its so beautiful when they are in the grass just enjoy those times
It really is.
Yahooo!!! Congratulations on 100k! I remember watching when there was only 30k! So exiting to see you grow!
Looking good!
That's a great idea for greens!
Hi Ms. President!!!
I have a quick question for you!( if you are busy and can’t answer it no worries!!) I have 6 silkies and a frizzle Cochin but recently we’ve noticed a problem when it comes to their bedtime. 2 of my silkies ( Lily and Honey) and my Frizzle ( Diva) have started to sleep outside at night! I recently installed new perches higher up for them to climb on in their run and they’ve been loving them maybe a bit too much! Should I be worried? How do I get them to go back in the coop? Absolutely love your channel! You have helped me become so much more confident with my chickening! Thank you so much! ❤❤❤
not Ms President, but I would try a few treats thrown into their coop to entice them.
Holy cow… great idea!
My chickens get the fresh grass clippings, EXCEPT in the areas where I have to use flea/tick killer. I get ticks in my house -- wooded region, so aound the house gets the treatment 3 x a year... I do not like ticks crawling on me in my house.
I don't blame you! Yikes!
The biggest take away I have gotten from your channel is my chickens are princesses and will not associate with any other chickens that did not grow up here. The less I have to deal with is better. 🤗🤗
We are on a suburban lot and the entire backyard is wood chipped with fenced in veggie garden beds. On the outside of the garden beds we built small beds about a foot deep and fenced them with rabbit wire. We plant mustard greens, kale, lettuce, swiss chard, arugula, endive, carrots, barley, wheat, rye. As the plants get tall enough the chickens and ducks can reach in through the top layer of fencing and eat what they can reach.. They love it.
That's so funny my little runt I named pickles
You are sooo funny. And little pickles on your shoulders…so cool 😂❤
Congratulations, Julie sounds like the type of friend we'd all love to have!
As for the aerator, can't you lease one for a day from some garden or hardware store?
I love Pickles on my sandwich 😂
Oh no!!! 😆
you have one of the best channels on CZcams.
Moles destroyed my backyard, had to level, reseed with rye and Kentucky blue grass.
I have moles too!
I heard that gum kills them? I've never used chewed gum but heard it helps.
You gotta get mole traps seriously . They are destructive .
@@nancysmith-baker1813My Great Pyrenees dogs would quietly watch the ground while standing still. My cats would immediately gather around. Once the dog puts their nose near the ground and started digging, the cats grabbed them as they ran out of many different holes! It was an amazing effort between the two Pyrenees and 16 cats they managed to completely eradicate 2 full acres of moles/voles..in one season! Better than any exterminator I know..🤣🤣
@@tjmiller5060 you got a great team for mole catch ing 😁
Salad bar. I love it. Will have to try that out. Our yard is getting patchy but it has been 5 1/2 years
I do a bunch of different sprouts microgreens style for my chickens. Having over 100 birds means grass has no chance. Especially with geese. 🤣
hahaha Pickles...one of my baby chicks name is pickle toes. LOL
I did winter rye in TX this winter and a lot of it is still green. that was a life saver for the dogs and muddy paws after all my grass died this summer. now I need to see if I can get something growing for the summer months.
Would you do a video on weeds that chickens can eat? :) and more importantly, those that they cannot?
Do you have a video on deworming chickens?
Hi Dahlia!
I love you and your videos so much. You're the reason I took the jump and got chickens. I have a small flock of 4. Ive been having a problem with my EE girl for 2 months now and i dont know where to turn. Ive watched all your videos and her symptoms arent pointing me to a clear issue. Ive done everything i can think of to help her im at a loss cos her symptoms arent getting better. I know how busy you are is there any way you could help me? Unfortunately going to a vet isnt an option 😢
I know there is little chance of you seeing this but I thought I'd reach out
Wondering if we should have two runs…..to rotate like we would do with horses? Especially if it’s not safe to free range them alot
Hey Dahlia, do you know what type of flowers and grasses are safe to plant in a meadow that chickens will be foraging and living amongst? Just curious
Dalia, how big is your original chicken run?
I have noticed that when my chickens go foraging they go to the same alfalfa plants and they have leveled them. There are other alfalfa bushes that they pass by. It's strange. I'm going to have to create cages for the plants and rotate the cages.
I guess they know what's good!
My new flock has moved into their 10x20 covered run which is currently filled with grass but increasingly poopy! How do you manage the poop in your grass run?
Are you guys just putting it into the soil, covering it and keeping it wet? Or adding plant food? My chickens have close to a 1k square feet of run but can't just range free due to predators and my dogs.
Do you ever cut the grass? I grew grass in my chicken yard, and I cut the grass because I was told I had to, in order to prevent crop issues?
I cut the grass once because I had disease in my flock and the grass was thick and staying quite wet beneath it. So my friend Julie suggested I cut it. Regarding crop issues, chickens really should be able to digest plant life, even long blades of grass, as long as they have proper access to grit and are in good general health. But it's fine if you want to cut it to be extra safe!
Good to know. Yes mine have access to grit. I will leave the grass alone next time 😊
May I ask how many chickens you have and how much space?😊
What size hardware cloth do you use on your salad bar ? do you have a link and coupon code? Hardware cloth is so expensive. And do you have a link to the netting you use over the top of your run? Thank you and I love watching your videos!
I think it's 19 guage because that's what I had left over but you can go with a higher, cheaper guage for a salad bar. And it doesn't have to be 1/2 inch either. You could even use chicken wire if you wanted, though it wouldn't be as sturdy. I don't have a link for the mesh or my netting, but I got the netting from a company called Pinon Hatch Farm. :-)
@@WelcometoChickenlandia thank you so much for the information. I have learned so much from you!
What are those trees 🌳 called
They are juniper bushes, but they are grafted so they are never going to get taller.
How many chickens do you have
Ours don’t have a run they are 100% free range and do great haven’t lost a single chicken and we have a ton of grass. They don’t run away either they will always stay where their food and roost is. Our horses and dogs keep predators away and the black chickens keep the hawks away.
If you have moles , mole traps . Realy .theyxare districtive .
What kind of chicken is pickles? 😍
She is a Serama. 🥰
Ya I have no grass I just can't figure out how to keep my grass
