I have to say that when this song came out, I would cry everytime I heard it. Her name was Wendy, and she loved me to distraction. I took that for granted, always looking for greener pastures, and would leave her when I found them. She always took me back... until she didn't. I did the usual pleading and persuading, but it was too late. I was gone from her heart. That was almost 45 years ago, and I regret it to this day. We both moved on, and have had happy and healthy lives, but what I wouldn't give to be, when I was Wendy's prayer.
So strange, I'd totally forgotten this song till last Nov 2023 walking thru the grocery store. It came on overhead. It was Nov 3, the anniv of my mother's death. Her name was Mary. I nearly lost it, walking thru store in tears But so glad it brought that song back! '
@@carlajannessa3443 Yes that's happened to me! I got into the car one day thinking about my Mother Mary and when I turned on the ignition the song started on the radio and I burst into tears. It wasn't as if it was half way through it was the very beginning of the song!
I worked for Danny Wilson (Gary Clarke) in his studio back in 2005. Himself and his wife where both lovely and they made me feel welcome in their home in west London. Brilliant Song!
Hey Randall, look up any great track from the 80's , in fact lets make it from the 60's to the 90's, look through the comments and somebody will have written a comment very similar to yours :-D These songs just simply came from a fantastic time of great creativity. What I enjoy even more is reading the comment from some teenager that goes something like "great song , wish I had been there" ! - That has to be confirmation that the music is holding up !
Same, was teary eyed and had to just stand there watching in awe. Such a beautiful song and blessed to have grown up in the 80s with these tunes. A masterpiece this one.
That was superb. What a song I agree with some of the comments. that performance was actually better than the original one . What a singer and what a great song

At one time I thought I was the only one who knew this wonderful song as I just kinda came upon it . Never heard it on the radio in the US but today 2024 I am so happy to listen via social media how much this song also touched others. Thank you Danny Wilson. Those in US listen carefully and you will be moved too.
Beauty. I had a "Mary's Prayer" moment when when I was just out of college. She was still in high school when we worked together...a sweetheart wise beyond her years; I felt our age difference was too wide and didn't ask her out. Full on Hind sight hitting me now: I am 57 and she would be 47. She might have changed my life.
@@loganwolverine2573 Lmao😂😂😂 Dude its so funny cuz of how well you ruined that moment.. I was totally feeling the story too before you ruined it with perfect comedic timing😂🍻 Cheers mate.
I just listened to this fantastic man...unbelievable! He sounds just great! It’s as if he didn’t age. And what a deep, sad song. I loved it from the time it was first released.
I found love and lost it. This song just beats the shit out of me when I hear it. Almost as good as the original recording, even after all these years. Excellent.
I'm a child of the 80s this is one of my all time favourite songs and in few wks I'm 49 years old, how the time goes by, it seems within a n twinkle of an eye in a mature adult, or as I like to tell people, a mature youngster 😁😁😁👌

This song gives me all the feels. When I was a young man a girl loved me. I mean she really loved me with all her heart and soul. I was everything to her. I was not good to her in return. Because she was not conventionally attractive, many of my 'friends' teased me and made fun of our relationship. Not being the man I should have been I let it get to me. I broke up with her by cheating with her friend. She was wi)ing to forgive me, but I still wasn't man enough to do the right thing. I basically ghosted her. She developed a drinking problem, but wS able to get clean and sober. She has been clean and sober for 30 years and has a wonderful family and a husband who loves her as much as she loved me. I sailed through life and relationships and I am now 51, unmarried, no kids, lonely. I regret everything I said and did to her because my stupid immature brain listened to superficial friends. This song hits hard, but the message is clear. I hope someone will read this and realize love is the only thing in this life that matters. Don't do what I did. Let yourself love and more importantly let yourself BE loved.
I'm sorry for your immature mind but at least you are man enough to admit it...and you are never too old for love btw...51 is not old...don't give up...I'm sure you will know now how to love Wishing you well x
This song is like a journal from my younger days but just in music format, love this tune to the point I was singing it in my head randomly,I didn't know who sung it but, remember how much i loved it as a kid,had to look it up and now I'm here 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
One of the most underrated songs of the ‘80’s...and then some! He sounds just as great as he did in ‘87...🤟
his voice changed....
Amen! Great great song from the 80's and a super music video. Always a favorite of mine! 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Los clásicos no pasan de moda mi amigo.
This song has to be one of the BEST pop songs that still sounds so good in 2023, and the band sounds like the original recording - kudos to them!
What a uniquely great melody. The rhythmic base, the background instrumental harmonics, the top guiding melody. One of my favorites.
That modulation in the last verse is just genius 😢❤
I worked for Danny Wilson (Gary Clarke) in his studio back in 2005. Himself and his wife where both lovely and they made me feel welcome in their home in west London.

This is one of the tracks from “the soundtrack of my life” that makes me both smile and cry at the same time - I love it!
Same 😢😍
Yes. You put it into words how strongly I love this song. It makes you smile and cry at the same time.
I'm glad he's singing it with his Scottish accent now. In the 80's, they told him to drop it and "American it up"
One of my fave songs and one of the best in the 80's😊
Man, they just don't make music like this anymore. Holding up great...one of the coolest songs ever.

They used to play this all the time in the summer of 1987 on 102.5 KZIO in Duluth Minnesota USA.
I remember hearing it on the radio in the US and seeing the video on MTV.
Gary Clark deserves more recognition, as a songwriter as well as for Danny Wilson
Please take me back to the 80's. An absolute effing classic. 👏👏👏👏👏👍
Wow, Gary Clark's voice is still the same! Terrific performance.

There is something wrong in the world today because no one is writing deep emotional, soul stirring music like this anymore
They also aren’t creating songs that are extremely catchy like this either.

There's a gospel cover of it. The choir did well, plus a great one on acoustic from a year ago, which is awesome
