What tics? He looks like suffering from back pain caused by spine deformation. I know because I've had the same issue throughout my life.

He has nervous tics, that's pretty obvious. People in pain don't act like this all the time. He always had it, I just think it worst in recent years. It's not serious, just annoying 🙂 Many sportsman had it, like Nadal for example.
I am not a psychiatric but I believe some people do this to calm themselves
@@nunomacuacua Still wondering what tics you are talking about. Can you provide one or two sample timestamps? The only thing I can see is that he keeps moving his head and shoulders around. That's always caused by back pain. You say it's getting worse in recent years. That's another indication. People tend to get calmer when they age, but spine problems get worse unless treated. He certainly needs physiotherapy to learn how to relax his muscles. Otherwise, pain increases muscle tension, which in turn increases pain, and so on. I've seen many kinds of tics (like GMs spinning captured pieces) and I used to have serious tics myself (chewing my fingers, pulling my hairs...), but nobody would ever "calm themselves" by moving the neck in all directions. The best way to find out would be to ask him, but tics and illness are kind of taboo topics in interviews.

I am no doctor but people in pain don't do same movements over and over again when their are playing. Nadal doesn't have itch every time he serves. Aronian repeats obsessively the same gestures (neck, shoulders, chest...). A Spanish chess commentator calls him "el pecho Aronian" because a peculiar gesture he does (I don't think he does this time though).
His neck gestures (e repeats constantly) is similar to a gesture that a portuguese coach does. It's a tic. Not a neck pain.
If you doubt this, check videos of his games and you will notice

Right off the bat, what I notice in these comments is a bunch of parroting/mindless repeating about Levon's movements. Let the man move! You sit there for hours or even in shorter time controls playing a game, you can get fidgety. It's normal!
Some people also have muscle tightness as they get older, or heck, even if you're young, let's say you injured yourself lifiting weights in high school for example, and you never quite healed 100%, you will get fidgety, because you feel the tightness.
Use your brains people, and stop parroting!

Yeah..that was a free knight. I don't see the point of the knight sacrifice from Vincent's point of view. And I am surprised that Aronian didn't take it.
