She is an actress, yes. However, before starting her acting career, she was the first black Miss America. She later lost the crown in 1984 or 1985 due to nude photos she had taken for Penthouse prior to her running in the pageant. It's amazing really and good for her because after overcoming a scandal like that back in the day, she was still able to pursue a singing career AND was quite a successful artist at that! You'll have to check out The Sweetest Days and Dreamin'.
If I recall, she modeled for a photographer that later sold the pictures to Penthouse after her gain in notoriety. She bounced back fiercer than ever. So glad she appears to be in a good place now

I think it was great that she came back strong several years after her scandel and being canceled because of her photos in a porn magazine, which they only published because she won the pageant crown. Never bothered with them beforehand. Love this song even though it tends to be a little slow for my taste. I'm sure the time between this song and her downfall was pretty tough.
I think it was Playboy or Penthouse magazine. Tame compared to the crap you can find on the internet at this time.
Such a beautiful woman. She is an actress. She's been in quite a few shows. She was so funny in the show 'Ugly Betty' and she joined the cast of Desperate Housewives in season 7. I really wish she had been a part of the cast from the beginning. She was also Miss America in 1984 but she lost her crown (unfairly in my opinion, but some will disagree with me on that) but she is a remarkably talented woman.
Can't believe this was released in 1992. I haven't heard it in a while, but I found myself singing along, word for word. It's funny how the lyrics of a song will stay with us.
While she was on Desperate Housewives, she sang Amazing Grace and did an outstanding job. I would suggest giving it a listen.

Which is why this song has such spiritual significance- it’s about Jesus turning water into wine (the best for last ) to save us from shame and his promise of the New Covenant and promise of a new day to come upon Jesus’ return!
