My strategy is to be as patient as possible when selling. These days you are almost certainly making a loss, but this way you can limit your losses. The hardest part is selling figures that are still in stock everywhere...

Great insight, everything you said is accurate. I buy on less than retail prices. When I sell, I aim to break even or make a minimal profit. Being able to buy a new figure with the funds from a sold figure feels good! But, if you’re going to take a loss, take a minimal one. Try to balance out the happiness of collecting. Thank you for another great video!

Biggest loss is A lego loss. Huge collection I tried to sell, someone scammed me by promissing to buy it all and could only afford half. Turns out they were stalling and just bought what they wanted leaving me with incomplete lineups and sets.
Biggest score is I found a untouched like new Infinity war thanos I bought for only 175

Awesome video and topic, man. As someone just starting out with collecting Hot Toys figures, it’s been difficult not to just buy everything I see but wanted to start with the essential figures I wanted in my collection. That’s been my strategy with collectibles my whole life and I also agree with you on the whole investment thing… most of the time the stuff we all think will be a great investment, doesn’t and it’s usually some obscure figure or collectible that you weren’t even thinking about! This message is way too long, my bad Keco! Haha

The only ones making a profit are sellers of new old stock or the ones that bought an original figure years ago. Toys are not an investment - they might be worth something in the future for people suffering from mid-life crisis in a few years time but reasonable doubt exists.

I've lost money on two figures I was selling, and only was willing to do that because I wanted the money to apply to ANOTHER two figures I wanted. But as a buyer, I admit I will only purchase pre-owned figures for x amount OVER the original retail price. And of course I look for a bargain where I can. I'll only pay full price if I can do a payment plan. Fortunately for me, I'm selective ("picky"?) on figures I want so they may be few and far between. UNfortunately, some of the figures I 'm looking for are one that are highly sought after. So price is still high.
    Another good video!

Also the constant upgrade to the 2.0, 3.0 figures really drive down the value of your old figures. You thought it’s going to stay in your collection forever, then Hot Toys flaunts the newer, better, improved version with comparison pics with your old inferior version smh.

Apologies in advance for the long comment Keco.
I recently had to buy a lot of things for the house such as security cameras, exterior lights, timers, etc. When I bought them, it really hurt because I didn't have the budget to buy them but I had to. Now that they are all installed and working, I look back on it and think: "at least it's done now and I don't have to spend the money again anytime soon." The money has already long been spent and long gone. That's how I look at my Hot Toys collection. I recently sold my Mk2 diecast with custom light up kit for $250. It's a loss to be sure, but the money I spent on the figure when it first released has long been spent and is long gone. And I've enjoyed the figure to its fullest. I also sold my Death Watch Mando which was admittedly, and impulse buy, because at the time, I had no idea that named Mandalorians like Bo Katan would appear in live action and be made. That too, I took a loss. But again, the money has long been spent is long gone. I just see it as a way to make some money back and roll it over into the next figure I'll be getting in this case, Mk2 2.0. As a buyer, the only figure I bought that is a bit of a regret is Justice League "classic" suit Batfleck and I spent quite a bit over retail to get it. But to be fair, I don't think anyone who have guessed that Hot Toys would make a 2.0 of a character from a dead and critically disappointing franchise - surprisingly we got Black Manta. But I got Wasp from Antman 2, which is a far better look for her than that power rangers suit from Antman 3 and Bucky from the show for an absolute steal at well below their retail price including shipping. The only figures I'd be sad I took a loss on would be exclusive figures like Blue Baleman

I’ve got some great deals on figures that were not must haves, but wants that I initially passed up on. When you can pick figures up for half off shipped, it’s a good excuse to buy.
When it comes to selling, I hated doing it even when the times were good. I’d rather part them out or gift them to friends or family.

Great video! My biggest loss was Mezco One:12 Pink Skull Chaos Club(PSCC). Bought it during the 2020-2021 price high and then they release two additional sets lol. But overall sometime I take a loss, sometimes I take a gain.
I don’t buy and sell to make money though. But I’ve definitely bought figures due to the hype!
My dilemma is I like to have a clean display not very cluttered. So some figures that I love get rotated out and back in their boxes. I have a hard time selling those because I love the figure but then I’m sitting on stored figures that another collector would enjoy.

I collect a wide variety nerdy collectibles and I do rarely sell. However, most of my collectibles do appreciate in value.
The only things that don’t are my HotToys and that’s honestly devastating. I just got into this market/hobby only a few months ago but it is a very unique market.
I still buy figures but if they held their value I would not only buy more but I would appreciate them more. The only way this market will be profitable is if hot toys stops selling things in bulk and does more limited runs.
The Artisan Anakin is a perfect example of this. Those figures will not only hold their value but they will most likely appreciate over time.

    1) buy two
    2) keep one unopened and display the other one

Hi KeCo, I watched you willfoxification , and just saw your video. You made very good points. I,ve been trying to sell My Prime One Studios 1/3 Batman Batcave Hush deluxe and all I'm asking for is $1300 bucks and in total I paid about $1675. Now I did request that this be local pick-up only because of scammers but I also mentioned that there is a police precinct by the corner of my block that we can in front of and do the transaction, I also know 2 policemen and asked permission and they said no problem. Now it,s almost a year and had 2 inquiries but they live to far and I don't want to ship it and about people saying it arrived with broken parts and I get scammed. So I hear you loud and clear, it is getting very hard to sell something and even more you already know your taking a lost because your force to sell it cheaper if you want to get rid of whatever you have a figure or statue.💯👍

hot toys aren't rare anymore, there's just so many. 5-6 years ago there was a tighter list of figures and just owning any hot toy was special. Now there are too many figures and even variations of each character. The numbers don't lie. I always assume to make a loss and mark that loss as an ownership fee. The market is only good to rare figures like exclusives and limited edition runs. Every collectible market suffers from this if they are successful.

Then when you sell on facebook or insta etc, everyone and their grandma wants to do friends and family, which is now charging a fee to the senders if they use a credit card or are out of the country. My strategy is not to open them or display them once you open it it’s market plummets, if it’s still brand new then it still has its value and you can resell it. Just don’t open it! Just because you bought it doesn’t mean you have to open it or display it.

Why buy it if you aren't going to open it?

No I'm not lip syncing. Probably an issue with the audio upload. Sorry if that's distracting for you
