      @@asdfdsafdsaasf9639 Yeah wisdom has a tendency to repeat itself :)
      Bill Bruford said it this way:
      "The beauty of improvisation is that accidents will happen".
      Frank Zappa said it like this:
      "Progress is not possible without deviations from the norm".
      It`s basically the same awareness because it`s about breaking the pattern so you create new patterns.

    If you learn music in a fun way, not with forced discipline and pressure to get better, but with using the passion you have and making it your free time activity to get a break from the stress you may or may not be having to handle. Just a time to feel it and lay back or maybe get your kick for the day, finally stand up and dance, youve cracked the code you have the key

    I'd agree with this. I started playing guitar at 9...it was always about songs, performances, writing your own all the way into university and a music teaching job. Where did it get me? I was fucking miserable. Gter full days of kids screeching on instruments the last thing I wanted to do was play.
    So I quit teaching, took as long as it took, but last year I nought myself another guitar, amp, some pedals and just started learning songs I loved. No pressure, no gigs, no audience or expectations. What's the result so far? I fucking love it. Nearly a year in and I haven't written anything, haven't tried whatever. I just pick it up, play some stuff I love and I honestly think I'm a better guitarist for it.

    John’s comment about the song having nothing to do with what’s happening on the neck of the guitar connected with me. Growing up in the 80s as a guitarist, a huge amount of focus was placed on having “chops”... high dexterity and technical knowledge, and faster was better. But I never had fast fingers and always enjoyed playing a great melodic pop song with beautiful chords far more than anything else. Not to say that highly technical music can’t be beautiful, just that complexity for its own sake tends not to be very satisfying for either the player or listener.

    Don't fool yourself. Music theory and guitar playing are complex and take a lot of discipline to master. Passion is only a small part of the equation. Daily work and practice--even when you don't feel like it--are crucial. You won't improve much otherwise.

    • @MrFraim
      @MrFraim Před 3 lety +16

      I have to partially disagree with you - of course music theory is important but I only started to improve once I played what I really want to play and when I feel like it. If you learn from great guitarists like Hendrix etc. by recognizing certain patterns, you can sometimes learn more than just practicing your joy for playing guitar to death - but that's just my opinion :)
