I watched a documentary on fungi and learned a lot about mushrooms.
They are cute and kind of needed for us to live so that's kind of pog that they're around :)

Aspiring mycologist here! A neat fungus fact that was recently discovered is that mushrooms can sometimes control the rain! For a basic summary, by releasing billions of spores high into the air, they pass through clouds, interacting with so many water vapour particles at once that it causes a chain reaction where it begins to rain! There's a lot more science behind it than that, but scientists are trying to harness that ability so that we can start controlling rain! How cool would that be?
i never knew that, wow
Wait this is really cool- I also heard there’s a type of mushroom that can break down plastic which is nutty. I feel like it could be insanely useful but they have really particular living conditions-
Thank you for your fun fact :)
Ah great we’ve got fucking rain bending fungi now
All was well…until the mushroom nation attacked
Sounds very interesting; I assume that breathing in billions of spores might not be optimal for public safety tho... ;(

Mushrooms did wonders in my life. I could remember several years ago, I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Was actually diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend of mine recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
Congrats on your recovery. Most persons never realizes psilocybin can be used as a miracle medication to save lives. Years back i wrote an entire essay about psychedelics. they saved you from death bud, lets be honest here.
Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them
YES very sure of Dr.benfungi. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

I have been mostly sad but after taking shrooms few months ago, l feel much happier and highly motivated and my ADHD gone , lost a ton of anxiousness and had a few epiphanies about how I should live my life. I decided to buy an ounce for backup, but haven’t yet felt the need to take any more since then.
I have autism, I was diagnosed with it when I was 15. I took shrooms and it made me function so much better.
Eek I’m autistic and might wanna try mushrooms. Do you have a reliable source?
Yeah doc.brenttt is your guy. Man is exceptional with anything psychedelics.

when you mentioned honey mushrooms being the biggest living thing on the planet, I thought about Pando, the tree forest that is all one connected tree, technically one organism, which I had heard was the biggest living thing. some googling and some math later, I learned that Pando weighs about 6500 metric tons. I still don't know which is bigger, they both have the same large number!
The fungus is bigger in size while the "forest" is bigger in weight.
They've now found a massive sea grass field in Australia that's one organism and also bigger in size than pando and the fungus at 77 square miles!
There have been reported colonies of other types of fungi that apparently have over 500 cubic acres in size! It's not a honey mushroom I don't think, but that is immensely big, like unfathomably big.
Obviously none of you have met my mom.

Merlin Sheldrake, a Mycologist (and brother to Cosmo Sheldrake, songwriter behind “The Moss”) released a book on mushrooms(as mycologists do). He got his author’s copy, soaked it in sugar water, and then grew mushrooms on it. He then ate said mushrooms.

Moral of the story: If you are starving, never eat a mushroom
Eat flowers, pine buds, the soft bit of the bark of a tree, but do NOT eat a mushroom, because sometimes even if it looks like a good mushroom it may have fucked a bad mushroom and you are suddenly hostage in mushroom basement and the mushroom police won't find you.
True
Then you have those weird mushrooms who like to dress up in bright & bold frightening colours, but you get to know them & realize that they're name is Michael & they host potlucks every saturday with their neighbours. You keep going to the potlucks for like a decade, but then one day all the food is poisoned! It turns out Michael died 6 months ago & this is Bichael, a mushroom who looks exactly like Michael but with a criminal record & completely different relatives.
yeah like, the deadliest mushroom out there looks like many many other harmless mushrooms. it can be hard to know if a mushroom is safe or not just by looking at it especially if you don't know that much about fungi
Sooo....how did you escape?
Actually flowers can also be pretty bad, by far safer, but definitely not a good idea
Here's a fun fact: at least the last time I checked, there were only two or three mycologists (mushroom scientists) in Australia. Which is a shame because Australia's gotta have some really weird mushrooms and I'd love to know more about them.
We have yellow mushrooms, and white mushrooms
@@holymolyiahteingpvz I have heard there is an Australian mushroom known as pixie's parasol. It is small and blue and very pretty, but not much is known about it from a scientific standpoint because the 2 or 3 Australian mycologists haven't gotten there yet.

I love foraging, no matter if its mushrooms, plants, or nuts. Mushrooms are really cool! The amount of diversity is insane, from fly agaric that inspired the mushroom in mario, to the best and tasty morels, they are all super unique and beautiful in their own way. They are also one of my favorite things to practice drawing! When foraging, make sure to take in account if that mushroom, or plant has any poisonous like-alikes, even if its something your familiar with! Such as the potato, which is related to nightshade. If eaten when it is too ripe, or after its prime can cause sickness.
For more information, I suggest reading one of Thomas J. Epel's books, like foraging in the mountain west, which covers plants, animals, nuts, and mushrooms!
I just discovered mushroom foraging myself about a year ago and it’s been awesome
My favorite fungi fact: there's a type of mold only found under Chernobyl that feeds off the radiated melted waste from the disaster, thus making it less radioactive. Also, that waste (melted remains of the reactor in the basement) goes by the name "The Elephant's Foot" (not a fungus) and to say it will kill you is an understatement, since it can give you a massively lethal dose of radiation poisoning.
The elephants foot is definitely really interesting to learn about
Chernobyl is probably the single most terrifying place in the world.
Going near the elephant's foot is probably one of the most agonising deaths you could have, if not the most
Actually, the lethality of the Elephant’s foot has decreased since the meltdown. At the time of its discovery (9 months after the meltodown), it was indeed very lethal.
In the 34 years since then, the lethality has decreased. It is still lethal with prolonged exposure, but it won’t kill you in a few seconds.
@@HarvestMoonHowl One word: Arabia.
Fun fact about mushrooms: there is a type of mushroom found in Scandinavia and it looks like a very average mushroom. But it has hallucinogenic qualities to it that may have numbed your ability to feel pain. So way back when Vikings were around they fed these to special warriors, beloved to be chosen by Odin, to essentially not care that they were bleeding in seven spots and have several arrows in them since they couldn’t feel the pain. And then they died. To Valhalla

There is one type of mushroom that can technically hunt. I forget the fine details, but it makes a snare big enough for a nematode to get in, and once one goes through the loop, the loop activates and kills it, then chemically dissolves the body so the hypae can absorb the nutrients
Feeding on nematodes evolved independently serveral times in fungi with over 100 species known. Some use sticky traps too.
Oyster mushrooms can do that but different species have different traps!
Ah nematophagous fungi! Theres so many of them, like shaggy manes, and wine caps!
Hello!! Microbiologist here to help fill in the fine details!! Youre talking about a fungi with spores that go by the name of Arthrobotrys! They lure in the nematode in with chemically released signals to get it entangled within its webbing of hyphae, cinch it with localized cells which then penetrate and kill the nematode, essentially sucking it of nutrients and then growing through it too

The ant killing fungus is actually called Cordyceps, and it does everything that GP says it does in the video. Sometimes, even other ants have to bring the "infected" ant away from the colony to prevent the cordyceps from spreading! It is my favorite fungus because it's so interesting.
next we wait 69 years for it to be able to control humans

There's also multiple varieties of it to infect various other insects and sometimes fungi. 600 currently known. So the ant isn't the only insect that has to worry about them.
Some cordyceps species evolve to infect certain species of insects! The girl with all the gifts is a great book that uses cordyceps zombies. I highly recommend reading it!

@@Captain.Mystic I mean it's probably safer than the stinky green pool you found the mushrooms next to, given the choice of getting smashed or getting cholera I know which I'd take.
Clean water is actually one of the most important points of any survival checklist but strong spirit alcohols are usually included in survival kits for a few reasons; they're natural disinfectants so useful for cleaning wounds, tools or even as part of your drinking water processing, they also keep better than plain water so if you can't source clean water old bottles of hard spirits will at least keep you happy while you die.

best video ever. I love mushrooms so much and your art makes them so much better
As a mushroom lover, I found this video very enjoyable 👍
A general fact about mushrooms, some like to be eaten and are actually colored so they’d be easier to spot but at the same time some of them are poisoness and easy to spot for exactly the opposite reason (but some how at the same time not).
Basically, poisoness mushrooms can be appealing to some insects like snails while the very lovely yellow colored chantarelle is edible to us humans and very delightful. (Im no expert though, I remember this from a nature documentary about mushrooms when I was young).
Apparently chanterelles also have a distinct apricot-like odor
Don't forget that the ones that are hallucinogenic are technically poisonous, but it just fucks with the human brain rather than kill us
Amanita muscaria disagrees with this statement.
Yup! I eat them decently often! But there is a mushroom that looks really similar but poisonous. Same colour, same size, same shape. But poisonous. The only way I can define it is "slightly" rippled.
But yeah, be careful out there! Even if you think you know what you are eating, you might not!
Mushrooms are also like a neural network for most plant life on earth, as their mycelium connects to the roots of different plants, allowing those plants to communicate with each other. :)
Speaking of ants and mushrooms, leaf cutter ants have formed a very special symbiotic relationship with a certain type of mushroom. The ants cultivate the mushroom in underground caves and use it as a food source. The mushroom has completely lost it's ability to spread on it's own, completely relying on the ants and the leaves they give it as fertilizer.
Mushrooms are super cool! And the important part is actually underground, not the funny things we see above earth. When you harvest a mushroom, cut it a little bit above the base and it will grow back the next time it "blooms".

I know someone pointed out zombie fungus, so I’m gonna talk about:
Doctors tried to make medication to exclusively get rid of fungi in the body, namely blood/certain organs- but it didn’t work.
No, the medicine that they were able to make ended up eating/breaking down your bodies cells, making it harmful to get rid of internal fungi. So they don’t sell it/prescribe it. Fungi has to be removed through alternative means (I think the main one is literally surgery/cutting it out OR fighting it off with help with steroids). There are certain diseases that also have to be removed this way (including cancer).
There are certain medications to get rid of fungi in the nails, (most) layers of skin, butt hole, the uterus, ears, nose, mouth, and the eyes. (If more internal, be prepared to fight)
So, yeah. There is medicine to get rid of most parasites and bacteria and to help build resistance to certain viruses, but not to get rid of mold in certain places. Be careful out there!
It's really interesting how fungal cells are so similar to mammal cells that a medicine to kill the former ends up killing the latter as well. I think I heard somewhere that some fungi are so similar to us biologically that eating them makes us sick because it triggers our body's anti-cannibalistic response.

My kids love this. They loved the little mushroom on the conveyer belt but then I had to tell them what phallic means. 😅😅 at least they’re listening!
For anyone who was already playing my singing monsters before this video came out...
The excitement I felt when a game I had been playing for years was appreciated.... it's a great game
Sams
same
The only video i watch specifically for the sponsor
YES YES YES
i played it on my nook (barnes and noble's reading tablet lol) when i was like 13 ish. i wonder if i could still open the app now. i remember it actually being fun and the songs being good
So glad that mushroom mania has gripped you too, Ginger. It’s prime mushroom season here in Australia right now and I’ve been on three mushroom hunts in my local area (hunts only to observe mushrooms and make neat lil spore prints, I’m still learning about what could potentially be eaten dw) and it’s been awesome!! Found so many cool things and some stuff that I couldn’t find any sources on. I know Australia’s mushroom scene is very under documented but I swear, this is just ridiculous
i still get startled sometimes by the reversed seasons. i can't imagine a november may but damn yall are living in it
Australia has a MUSHROOM SEASON?! That sounds so cool! Here in Michigan, we just have Winter, Mud, Traffic Cone Migration Season, and then Kinda Cold But Not Really Winter Yet
@@squibblez2517 we mostly go around looking for golden caps, the magic mushroom kind.
I've been gathering saffron milk caps on my way to equine therapy on the mornington peninsula
@@sirwahthemonke yea mushroom season has always described the period before over and after winter where magic mushrooms grow wild. At least in Tassie
i love how the comments are just half fun facts and neat things about mushrooms! people really love just learning about these funky little things and sharing this knowledge with others!!
OMG a msm sponsor I have been waiting for this I love that game I'm a pro at it
0:39 When I saw that you were sponsoring My Singing Monsters,my Jaw Dropped to the floor, like I was not expecting that, also I like the designs of your monsters.
Same I was static
same lol
When Noggin punched Ginger tho-
Ngl, the best and the most unexpected sponsor he could get
this is the only sponsorship thing that I’ve ever watched fully because I used to love my singing monsters so much
My dad and I found a good load of two different types of chicken of the woods and a few chanterelles the other day. Very excited to cook em’ up!
I love how when u showed all 6 kingdoms u see a mushroom kingdom!
the bigger question, do we know the correlation between mushrooms and badgers?

Fun fact: the Protist kingdom does actually have some members that are visible without a microscope. It’s the catch-all kingdom for all eukaryotes that aren’t already plants, animals, or fungi.
It includes slime molds and algae, and because kelp is a kind of algae, protists can be up to 150 feet long.
If anyone's watching this right now and was thinking of getting MSM, Eggstravaganza just started and its additions this year are
-lots of new costumes
-the permanent water island skin
-rare hippityhop on Faerie island
On top of that, Blabbit is currently available on Water Island.
