Everyone asks whether Kubu Island is worth a visit. Is it really as magic as they say? Well, the thumbnail answers that question, as well as the blog post. The Makgadigadi Pans are just from another planet -open, flat, dry and featureless. This really needs to be in your planning if you're coming to Botswana! Enjoy the blog post at asimplyfab.life/kubu-island-makgadigadi/

Great vid. How'd you get your drone into Botswana? My friend is trying to get a permit, but there's no response from from the authorities.

Thanks for the comment. I'm afraid I can't help with an answer. Why they haven't responded, I don't know, sometimes things take a little longer in Africa, part of the charm. Perhaps ask the question on Drivebots (FB), they're very good).
I CAN tell you what happened though:
Tbh I had forgotten it was in my bag (it's a small one), and in the wider picture we had a week before and a week after the Botswana tour, visiting in South Africa and the drone was for that part of the trip.
I wasn't even aware of the drone permits (it is not that widely publicised). I DID become aware of it at the National Parks ("no drones" signs everywhere at the entrance gates).
I respect the rules completely and the drone did not come out of its case (or my bag) anywhere in Botswana. Except for this one spot. Since it was extremely remote, with no wildlife, there's nothing there and no people around. So I made a judgement call.
Drones can be a hazard and a nuisance for the wildlife, in my opinion. Something (anything - crashing, losing it, injury) could happen and then you have a problem. It also changes their behaviour with one of these buzzing, zooming little things flying around their terrain, something they aren't used to, and it should stay that way.
      I totally get that.
And I get that we are SUPER privileged to be able to visit these environments in this manner, and I respect the rules and regulations that are in place (unlike some people - see my Chobe cheetahs video). I also understand that the Bots government cannot trust everyone on their word, and need to issue permits.
The only other aerial observation we did do, was through Helicopter Horizon's Okavango Helicopter Flight (great trip and I'm pretty sure they have a permit😅).
I can add that I am one of those guys who will just shrug and move on if (or when) something (I am not particularly attached to) is confiscated. Having grown up in South Africa we (have) deal(t) with quite a lot of "unofficial" flexing of authority (at roadblocks etc.). So we tend to take it as it comes (if that helps)...
      Sorry for the long reply😅😉🙄
