We were a lucky generation of hungry little sharks. During that era, Tim Curry voiced characters on so many animated shows that he was always on somewhere: Pirates of Dark Water, Mighty Max, Peter Pan and the Pirates, C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa, and Gargoyles to name a few.

In hindsight it was funny hearing him reign in his own hamminess during that mirror/alternate universe episode (?) as a Prince Lotor who had _no_ interest in Allura because Haggar the Witch was hot (or something). However, due to the rights being held by the British hospital as mentioned in the video, the writer Bill Willingham had to change The Adversary to someone else (I am keeping their ID unknown as to not spoil it - go out and read Fables ASAP)

I always pinned Fox's Pan down with certain early WildBrain (as CINAR at the time) cartoon, called Ivanhoe: The King's Knight.
They have this classical fantasy style writing, that make them feel weighty and real despite being very kid-oriented. They feel honest, kinda the opposite of formulas like monster of the week, where the action just kinda blends into this mindless set piece. Anything Disney ever did remotely like that was the Aladdin TV cartoon. it's a delicate balance to maintain because it achieves that feeling of high stakes without requiring the commitment to be keenly aware of the continuity, it can be episodic without just feeling like whatever, like filler.

His crew cowers and takes cover, but he doesn't even flinch, and 2) when Peter starts growing up and Tinkerbell starts dying because he stops believing, she encounters Hook and starts recovering, because he believes she is real because he clearly sees her and trusts his own senses. Greatest 2 part episodes of the series were dark as fluck. Peter wanted to end his long running game with Hook, which in his terminology, meant to kill him. Hook was fighting Pan and the Lost Boys until they caught him in a bamboo spear death trap. But Hook told Peter that even if he dies, he's lived a full life and has no regrets, unlike Peter, who'll never know what its like to truly live and experience life the way Hook has, and will always forever be a boy. Hooks words hit Peter hard, causing him to stop caring about having adventures, fun, and neverland. This caused him to start aging rapidly, which caused Neverland to start vanishing, the climax came with Peter as an old man floating in a void of emptyness, Tinkerbell saw him and shed a tear that fell on his face, which restored Peter and brought Neverland back.

It's been one of my favourite cartoons since I saw it when I was 10. Unlike the iconic Disney film this cartoon gave Peter a surprising level of depth, and occasionally featured some outstanding animation. The islands Peter and his crew lived on were downright deadly in this show, and although the tone still had to have balance for kids some episodes and performances by Tim Curry were haunting. The show was at times on par with Batman TAS, but is almost forgotten today.

I remember this series getting surprisingly dark. if there's one thing that really differentiated this version of the character over Disney was that Hook's pirate crew was actually menacing. Hans Conried's take on the character was Disney's typical goofy, lovable villain, and I am a huge fan, but I remember being almost afraid of Tim Curry's Hook as a kid. There was weight behind his threats, and those pirates looked like they would be all too happy to kill those children. And damn if the character design wasn't epic in itself. Must've been a weekday's worth of a single season, because I remember this series having a lot of episodes, at least compared to its weekend counterparts at the time. That said, Saban also dubbed a Peter Pan anime, but I don't recall it ever airing in the US. Maybe episodes were released on VHS in a movie format. They did have a Peter Pan episode of another dubbed anime they called "Funky Fables." I think that was released on VHS. I never actually watched it, but I do remember the VHS packaging trying to be hip with a large "Look out, Bart Simpson" blurb on the back.

Oh man did I love this toon..loved this version of Peter Pan and Hook voiced by Tim Curry was legendary IMO...we got great side characters and villians like the ice king and the greatest villian and episode by far in the episode The Rake and Hooks brother Captain Patch. I could go on and on but wow, did this show leave a huge impression on growing up and still today.

Though the first airing of this series was before I was born, I found it in reruns in the early nineties and I loved it! This is certainly one of the best versions of Peter Pan ever. It’s definitely in my top ten favorite adaptations. Peter and Captain Hook were so perfectly portrayed here. I remember how entertaining and exciting this series was! I thank you very much for making this video! This series was truly stunning and certainly a special part of my childhood!

The early years of The Fox Network really were a big middle finger to the rest of Hollywood. Especially when you consider that they started a cartoon block just to spite Disney and then the block that Fox created lasted even longer & was more influential than the Disney Afternoon Block was.

I often try to remember what the first movie I saw was. I'm not really sure still although I come around to several it could have been from time to time.
This is the oldest cartoon show I can remember watching all the way back to kindergarten so it must be one of the first. I loved this show SO much. I watched it what feels now like everyday. I even had dreams about it all the time- some that I still remember. There is nothing more precious to me - in film and tv - that I was given those adventures.
Peter Pan and the Pirates is my favorite version of Peter Pan- although I haven't seen it in probably 30+ years. It was (probably still is) on youtube, so I could watch it again, but if they won't release a cleaned up copy of the show on dvd/bluray/digital I can buy I just don't want to watch it again. Sometimes it's better to leave these things in our memory anyway. But I remember really liking how dark it is.
Now that I think of it around the same time there was a dark Sonic cartoon show too. That was a thing in kids shows for a little while in the 80s.

And then Tim Curry started talking and suddenly I realized...I actually watched this all the time as a kid! This was in fact MY Peter Pan, and I've never even seen the Disney version! Tim Curry's Hook voice and Wendy's character design unlocked a deep part of my brain like a hidden compartment in a roll top desk.

Future Pixar employees were definitely weaned on this great classic. THE AGES OF PAN is practically a masterclass in how to do an animated series finale right! The main character gets tricked into losing what made him powerful from the start! And nearly dies in the process? Talk about remembering that parents are in the room, too!
45 of the 65 episodes featured the Man himself, Tim Curry, who actually won a Daytime Emmy for his superb turn as Captain Hook. Rightfully so!❤

Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates had been a regular afternoon entertainment for us in the Philippines back in the 90's but it was overshadowed by the Nippon Animation's Peter Pan. At one point, the latter was aired an hour or so from the other version that was broadcasted by the rival network. The Fox's variant was in English and has a niche Filipino audience versus the anime one which was dubbed in Tagalog language and had 90's minor celebrities as voice actors. Still, Fox's Peter Pan is still a treat. It still reminds me of warm humble midafternoon snack times and playing pirates.

One episode that I remember from my childhood and followed me in adulthood is the Cave of lost Happy Thoughts....
Captain Hook and the Pirates entered the cave to look for a lost Happy thought of Peter's and use it against him, only for Captain Hook to find his.... A voice following him throughout the cave saying his name, Smee says "it's an evil spirit sir...!" Hook starts to cry and he then said
    "No Smee... It's my mother..!"
That episode from that day and still nowadays is my favorite episode. 😍
