Aim... Lock.. fire!!! I remember the show.

Whoever is writing the titles for these videos need to do better or have a change.

I remember watching this show as a kid in Germany. I was bored out of my mind by it, but ended up watching anyways, because it was in the dedicated Cartoon time slot and there weren't any other Cartoons under the week, only at weekends in the morning, you watched what they gave you...

"Gray Ghost" was also the character Adam West portrayed in an episode of "Batman: The Animated Series", a crime fighter from before Batman's time. Given what you said about The Phantom being called that at one point, I wonder if that was a subtle nod to how The Phantom predated even Batman as a crime-fighting character?

I was a kid and loved The Phantom movie… I would have loved this cartoon but never saw it… wtf! And I always knew about the cartoons back in the day.

Yeah I never knew the cartoon was a thing but I also liked the movie when it came out (I think I thought it was an older movie than it was because of the aesthetic and being a naive 7 year old just like I did with Rocketeer) and I totally forgot about those cheapo toys but I am pretty sure I had that sword!

This show actually got me into the Cyperpunk genre. I watched this when I was getting into middle school, and I already saw Aeon Flux when I was grossly underage to watch it but I recognized the animation style. And Ironically, this got me into The Phantom because my local paper started putting the newspaper comics in their rotation, and the movie was about to come out, which I was hyped for and still enjoyed!

My life as an adult is so muffed up because I just read them all the way through

First saw the Phantom in TV Tornado in the mid-Sixties, drawn by Sy Barry and was instantly hooked. He's very big in Australia, with Frew Comics running his adventures in a series that is currently numbering in the thousands. I only recently got to read his very first adventure, and it's amazing how advanced it was in very many ways, not least its depiction of women. Lee Falk was a terrific storyteller.

This show was the reason I wanted to see the live action Phantom movie

I guess it just didn't make it to local tv in my neck of the woods because I love the movie and watched all the cartoons i could get my hands on at the time

I've somehow never heard of this, but I love Peter Chung's art style. I might have to check this out.

At a comic convention I once met Gavin Blair who is one of the creators of ReBoot He's a nice guy too especially when I met him again at another comic convention.

The Phantom did have an actual minor superpower. He had indestructible rings that left an unremovable mark on the chin of anyone he punched with it. There were plenty of scenes where a recurring villain or an enemy of one of the previous Phantoms is revealed by pulling a bandage off their chin to reveal the Skull Mark imprinted there. Also the rings could make any fire burn brighter and hotter if you put them in it. I think they originally belonged to Emperor Nero too.

This show is such a trip. Dont think it holds up to binge-watching but still really cool. I dream of a world where the show got more budget for its animation. The concepts are super cool but the execution shows a lot of the budgetary strain palec on the show 👀

Saw the cartoon the first time around on good old analog TV here in the UK on CBBC. Having watched and loved Batman The Animated Series. Experiencing the crazy animation of Neon Flux and I like that too. These set me up well for Phantom 2040. Everything about it as a cartoon was well thought-out. A great history to work with which gives it a solid back story. It had romance, danger, manipulation and backstabbing. Things that are a part of life especially the last two. What really caught my eye was the detail. One of my favourites being people born in zero gravity. Wouldn't have the same bodies. So they look different to people on Earth. Also for these people to survive in any gravity. They had to have an exo skeleton to support their bodies. That I really liked and meant they could bring in more of the designs from Neo Flux. Then there is the appearance of Mandrake the Magician. Voiced by the same actor who did the voice of the character in Defenders Of The Earth. So to anyone I recommend watching the series. I watched Phantom 2040 when I was a kid. I thought it was a cool show, nice theme music. The plot and everything was a little lost on me because I was so young. Now I’m older, the origin of the character is so weird to me. Why is a white guy in tights protecting Africa? 😂

I kinda dug Phantom 2040. I mean, it was no Reign: The Conqueror, but it was a'ight.

Love this show as a kid, it never did get the interest it deserved. Maybe by 2040 😞

Never saw this show, but I saw the sequel where he makes his limbs invisible....oh wait, that was Venture Bros. :p

Um, was that Jason Voorhees in the hockey mask in that live action clip from The Phantom at 12:04? I've only seen that movie once(on dvd) and it was about 20 years ago but I don't remember that part lol

I liked the Phantom 2040. The Phantom being my favourite in Defenders of the Earth caused me to check it out and I'd still consider myself a fan of the phantom in general.

Classic cartoon. One of the highlights of the 90s cartoon boom. Shame it didn’t last as long as it should have. Heard the video games conclude the story though, so that’s something.😅

I grew up watching "Defenders of the Earth" when I was little. So it was the Phantom, but his outfit looks different so I wasn't sure.

The legendary Phantom, hero to an entire continent, gets taken out by tech Bros.

Legendary phantom who has battled hundreds if not, thousands of battles against the most evil people of the world and he gets taken out by Two tech Brose

I remember this show. I think it was a bit too bleak for my liking then, but probably would enjoy it now. Really freaky to see how much of it has come true though!

I really enjoyed this show. I recall it having above-average scripting from a lot of other cartoons at the time.

It ran at really weird times. I remember barely catching episodes on weekdays. I also remember hating the style of the show. It was hard to watch when at the time you had Batman, Spiderman, and Xmen.

Ah, I see the Phantom's writer have taken the Simpsons approach to future prediction. Just assume the worst of humanity and wait long enough to be proven right.

I'm sorry, are we just going to gloss over the fact that Debbie Harry, of BLONDIE, was a voice in this show?!

This show was sooooo good and is wildly underrated.

BTAS, X-Men TAS, ExoSquad, and Mighty Max. Some of the greatest animated series to ever drop.

Guess the Simpsons isn't the only cartoon that went on to predict the future. Someone needs to make a cartoon that predicts a future where normality resumed and common sense prevailed over whatever the hell it is we have to live with in current day.
