- This video covers riding some mountain biking trails in Monte Sano State Park, near Huntsville, Alabama, filmed using my new GoPro Hero8 Black camera. Three trails are covered: the Family Bike Trail, Mountain Mist Trail, and the Bankhead Trail (my favorite).
I (Jacob) rode today alone. I started at the Land Trust of North Alabama parking lot, which is part-way up the side of Monte Sano, and rode up to the main view point. That is where I started recording for today's video. For this video, I started by riding the Family Bike Trail. It's an easy trail on flat ground, but it's a nice warm up and I needed to catch my breath after riding to the top of the mountain anyway. I intended to cover several more favorites, and I rode them, but made mistakes with the new camera and so didn't get any useful video. Sorry! Finally, I rode the Mountain Mist trail over to the Old Road (the closed section of the Bankhead Parkway) and finally rode my favorite Monte Sano trail -- the Bankhead Trail ending my day back at the Land Trust parking lot.

This is great, thank you for making this video. How did you get from the Land Trust parking to the North plateau trail after that parking/look out area you showed at the very beginning? Do you ride on the road or a combination of trails like the dummy line and Bankhead Pkwy NE? I'm planning a ride there and want to do Bankhead downhill and can't figure out the way back towards that practice area.
When I last rode this trail, I tackled Dummy Line for the climb. However, there's now a new section on the Bankhead Trail that offers a much better ascent. I suggest parking at the Land Trust parking lot, then crossing the street onto the Bankhead Trail. Follow it up to the old road, and from there, continue to the mountain's summit.
I am glad you enjoyed the video, and enjoy the ride :)
@@SoutheasternFrontiers ah, that's good to know, thanks for the reply. I was thinking about not parking down there because I'm planning on doing the intermediate loop from Trailforks and I did not want to start with a super tough climb on Bankhead but if it's not too bad with that other route you mention I might give it a try then. Thanks!
Cool 😎 keep up the good work 🤟🤟
Thanks! Glad you liked it. 🤟
So cool!! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
what camera are you using? nice vid by the way
Thanks! I'm using a GoPro Hero8 Black with a chest mount. 👍
@@SoutheasternFrontiers i just recently got gopro 10 black and wanting to do this huck n roll trail. any tips on finding it would be appreciated
It's not that hard to find. It crosses High Trail right at the old quarry. We usually start at the Cold Springs parking area on Fearn Street and go across the street to the west (away from Cold Springs) and follow around the cliffs (go left hugging the cliffs instead of going right and downhill to Tollgate). Just keep your eyes open for where the leaves are crushed from people riding on them.
Heading there now
Sketchiest part of the ride looked to be crossing the road back to your car. Nice video. Ive never ridden Monte Sano, even though we just live about an east of there. We usually head toward Cloudland, but need to ride these trails for a change of scenery.
And that 8 Black seemed to do a great job with the stabilization.
It is recommended at that road crossing to go straight across to the trail on the other side and go down to the parking lot that way. Since this video they have made that trail a lot more rideable.
If you are a more advanced rider I recommend starting from oak park and riding up either the road or Bankhead trail.
(Locally referred to as armad)
Then follow the old road to the top of the mountain. Once at the top take sinks down until you hit the old road again. After that take the old road down to Bankhead and then Bankhead back to your car.
Thanks for the support.
@@SoutheasternFrontiers We need to go check it out soon. Thanks!
Are there many squirrels at monte sano?
Quite a few! Almost one less there, but it was quick enough.
