It seems that Mintra has offered to NamThip to be her mentor and protector, every evening lingering with her as an elder and friend, hoping to earn her trust and affection. Even when her own friends have returned to the shelter for dinner, Mintra tarried long with NamThip, causing her friends to become concerned.
As dinner time approached, Mintra had still not returned to the shelter, prompting her friends to call out for her loudly. Upon hearing their calls, Mintra rushed back, responding to their voices with shouts of her own. At Elephant Nature Park, every day is filled with beautiful elephant dramas, and we are hopeful of this new family development.
Mintra from the life of a street begging elephant, after an animal lover alerted us to her living condition. She walked the streets in this disabled state, earning money for the owner who exploited her. The owner said that Mintra was already disabled when he bought her from the logging industry.
The injuries to her legs and hip had likely been sustained by a powerful blow from a log, but it is not certain. We are grateful that she was able to join our company at Elephant Nature Park. She is very happy surrounded by her friends and family, always providing some kind of excitement to bring all of us here our daily smile.

Thank you for giving them kindness and love and shelter after all the cruelty from the logging industry, tourist riding and street begging. Volunteering at ENP was unbelievably rewarding. I will treasure my memories of being so close to these gentle creatures. Kudos from Ontario, Canada.

@@laurierice7687 to be more accurate these noises are called rumbles when they are deep and low. Trumbeting is when they use the loud cheers... 😁

I am often moved to tears watching these beautiful scenes and hearing them call to each other. My mind will never grasp the cruelty inflicted on these wonderous animals. I am so happy Mintra is safe and loved with friends near her. May she know only peace for the rest of her days.

What a loyal and kind elephant Mintra is to have taken Nam Thip in as a mentor and a protector. She has experienced hard times herself so perhaps on some level she knows that Nam Thip needs help and support due to the suffering that she has been through. Elephants certainly have a special way of connecting with one another.

When we were there, the matriarch conducted a head count and found that some were missing. Our guide, Apple, told us what was going on ...that two seemed to have strayed too far. The trumpeting was so loud, and the emotions were so high among the elephants. First one came charging up from the river, then the next. And the reunion was very touching - and reminded me of time when I was a kid and got separated from my mom at the grocery store - relieved and back in the safety of family again.
