  • I RARELY ATTEND AN AUCTION. I SAW SOME INTERESTING TRUCKS COMING UP FOR AUCTION. SO I WENT TO LOOK THEM OVER. SOME ATTRACTIVE STUFF, SOME STUFF I THOUGHT WOULD GO WAY OVER WHAT IS IS WORTH TO ME AND SOME THINGS THAT I THOUGHT MIGHT GO REASONABLE...HOPE YOU ENJOY.

      I know its an old video, but I beg to differ, JC just calls it how it is. Nonetheless, new trucks have more issues and out of service time than old trucks will. Its just good to know what we're looking at and point it out. Its very educational for those who care and are interested.

      Auctions are always "buyer beware". I know of many folks who send trucks, tractors & cars to the local auction that need "major" work. Yes, they make it there, they run & drive... but.

    Hi JC. The Unimog is built by Mercedes Benz. The one you saw was a Unimog 419 and was a collaboration between MB, Case and Frieghtliner done for the US military. I think The engine is a 5.7 ltr six cylinder Diesel coupled to a 16speed transmission.

Not because I knew what I was doing, but just got lucky on my heavy truck purchases. In the last 10 years there have been a slew of good, well-maintained trucks coming out of Ca. because they couldn't meet the emissions standards. I like to look for those.

You can configure it to be a loader, snow plow, sweeper, digger, wrecker, etc. I love the auctions, and with all those Internationals, I'm not leaving without at least two. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a response from you sir but I need an opinion from someone who knows a little bit about international DT466 engine in a 2004 4300 international. When it's cold out the truck doesn't want to start and when it does it misses real bad until it warms up. But if I plug the block heater in the truck starts fine when it's cold doesn't miss or anything. I was told by an international mechanic that I have sticking injectors and that I need probably at least one or two new injectors. But they weren't able to determine which injector I needed so they recommended that I put all six new injectors in. My question to you sir is will this correct my cold weather starting if I put new injectors in? I thought maybe you had experienced this issue and you know exactly how to solve my problem. If you do respond I thank you very very much and if you don't respond I understand because there's probably so many people that send you messages. Have a blessed day

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  Před 2 lety +1

      i always start with the basics. good fuel, good fuel filters and air filters, drain water separator, good clean oil and at the proper level. this uses a huei system to fire the injectors. oil level and condition is important. 2004 and up dt466 has an intake grid heater as a cold weather starting aid. it is between the air intake horn and the intake manifold. it has 2 larger power cables going to it. this will heat the air as it enters the engine when ambient temp is 50* or below. first verify that it is working properly by checking power and ground on its terminal and check the amperage draw. a worn engine with low compression can act the same way. my advice would be to remove all six injectors, do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test on each cylinder. this will tell you the overall condition of the cylinder, pistons, rings and valves. low compression and or cylinder leak down can cause hard start in cold weather as well. by plugging in the block heater, it warms up the worn parts. this can increase compression and reduce leak down. while the injectors are out, send them to a reputable test/rebuild shop to be checked out. i only replace one injector if the truck and or engine are at the end of its life. otherwise, i replace all of them as a set. the huei system can cause this as well but i dont see that often. most times it will cause hard start due to not enough pressure. this is less of a problem in the cold weather due to the oil being cold and thicker,. i would not dismiss it but i would certainly verify it had pressure while cranking.

    Of course the prices are out of control, apparently anyone can drive a truck now, even an idiot who knows his brakes aren't working can cry a only get 10 years for killing 4 people,,,

      some new truck manufactures had cancelled trucks that were on order and have an extremely long build lead time due to the shut down, lack of parts and employess. supply and demand. low supply, higher demand equals higher prices.
