So cool to see your book on the Wild Atlantic Way! I live on that Way, just west of Galway, and it is beautiful out here… I’ve attempted Ulysses but it reminded me too much of the drunken ramblings of old Irish men, could hardly follow it… but I’m gonna read Homer’s Odyssey first, & then maybe read the Cambridge edition of Ulysses, as it gives explanations on each page to things he’s talking about, might enjoy it more that way…

What a small world! The brief time I spent in Ireland way back in 1986, we started in Dublin, took a bus across the country to Donegal, then stayed at a bed and breakfast in Glenties. My buddy's family was from County Donegal. I think my Irish ancestors may have been from Cork. My daughter visited with her friends' grandmother in Tiperarry a few years back, and they got up to Slieve League for an epic hike. There is no doubt a "drunken rambling" aspect to Ulysees, LOL! If the Cambridge has good notes, that's surely a good way to go. I think the next time I read it, I'll go that route myself.

I thought I was the only booktuber who had never read to Kill a Mockingbird (same with Dickens). Ulysses I read over a university summer break. Revisited chapters ever since. Bloom is a deeply humane man, brilliant too. His antithesis being the Judge from McCarthy's Blood Meridian. I can''t get through any of Kings books. I can tolerate his style in short stories and novella, but that's it.

Yes, Bloom's humane nature is coming across powerfully on this reading. Haven't read Blood Meridian yet.

Hi Jim. I left you this long comment, and it seems to have disappeared. I was trying to invite you to join our Ulysses read-along. There is a group that has been reading it all month. If you are interested, let me know, and I'll share the information. I can only think that my original comment disappeared because I was trying to share info about this reading event.

Hi Pat! Sorry the comment vanished. Sometimes comments get held for review because I have strict moderation on, but nothing shows up there. I'm not sure what happened! Feel free to share the info again!
