    I had been closing my front side with 70% of my weight on my front side as instructed. I could not hit a draw always a fade. I saw s video of Jim's that explained that the back shoulder needs to stay back. Now I totally get the swing! I was doing everything correct except using a traditional shoulder turn, which does not work for this swing. Love this method!!

    Wasted 32 years playing traditional golf, came across Jim Venetos videos by accident when i was on holidays in Bali. I cannot believe just how much i have improved my ball striking and no longer need to tee off on the left side of teeing off area to allow for my wild slice. To think of all the money i have spent of golf training aids, golf lessons, hours watching CZcams videos, buying latest this and the latest that and where did it get me. It took me one video to get me hooked on this way of playing golf, so simple and less strenuous on the body. Thanks Jim for changing the way i look and play golf today. Only started this new swing method late February 2020 progress has been rapid.

    Staying over the ball and letting the arms say bye bye while your body stays put is what I think about on the take away. Despite the weight being more on the lead side does not mean I am not getting a weight shift because I do feel the weight shift to the inside of the trail leg or back leg. The way this is explained in the video to me reinforces the mechanics and thoughts required not to sway outside of the back leg swaying is a power leak and means inconsistency and a lot of correction on the way down. Great video and well explained

    Been fooling around with the concept for a while because it just made sense, but never really committed to it. Decided two weeks ago to “stay still” and give it a real chance. Incredible results. First two rounds 74/69. No fat shots. Contact in the middle of the club face with shots on line. Never going back to the “traditional” swing. And oh yes, was 80 in June.

      I used it for the latter half of 2020 and the 1st half of 2021. Never hit irons better in my life. Problem was I could not hit the driver to save my life. I started to shift my weight on the driver and told Jim this in one of his videos and his reply was I must not be doing the swing right and suggested signing up for his school) instead of providing any tips, I got mad and quit the swing altogether. Was back to hitting the driver well with a traditional swing but the irons were woefully erratic. I am in the process of transitioning back to Jim's swing but, while using the setup for the driver, I am shifting my weight. Seems to be the best of both worlds. Afterall, driver and irons are two different swings in spite of his claims. That said, guy is a genius, if a somewhat mercurial one.

      @@jonburrows8602 I had to chuckle a little that you got mad that Jim, probably one of, if not the most, generous golf coach on you tube, suggested you join his school (and support his livelihood, and pay for the value you get) rather than he coach you for free, but I guess that is the way of the current world. Could I cheekily suggest you ask the local golf pro for 20 minutes of free consultation and note the response?
      But I do understand a bit. Jim puts out there a radically different method. Some people think the onus is on him to "prove" it to the internet world, and especially the "what about the driver/ what about the power crew" - which is extremely unfair.
      Essentially Jim's whole system is available for free on the net. No BS about here is one "secret" and "2 steps of my 35 step patented, wrist cocking, knee twisting, weight shifting, arm pit squeezing swing process to get you to stop slicing in just 10 hits!!". However if you want individual diagnosis tuition you have to fork over less than $US50 a month, enabling multiple opportunities for feedback. What's a golf pro charge for one lesson in the US - $60-$100? More?
      I was a member of his academy a couple of years ago (even though being from Australia the cost (USD/AUD) is a little more relative to things but still good value). Lost 10-12 strokes off my handicap. But I didn't even use the academy enough. I devoured the content, but didn't interact with Jim enough (or at all) - entirely my fault and being time poor - I have been meaning to join up again.
      I do however (try to) use his method. I keep making the mistake of thinking that I know what I am doing wrong and what Jim would tell me when it doesn't work - NOT staying still! But knowing what is wrong and even knowing the correct swing is no substitute for a coach, especially one of Jim's calibre.
      I thank you kind sir, your post has prompted me to join up again!

    • @PaulinOz1
      @PaulinOz1 Před 2 lety +1

      And specifically on the driver, although Jim's swing is so much easier to pick up on irons, especially short irons, ironically it is the driver that his swing has helped me with the most - when I get it right.
      The problem is our own brains (and habits). With driver in hand, we cannot help but think we need to "hit the ball" smash it 250-260m (what's that ~275 - 290 in old money). Also old habits die hard. Using Jim's setup (which might appear to be pointing right for RH), but then transferring weight and worse, opening up the shoulders is a recipe for disaster - goodbye ball.
      However if I think to myself , "I just want to stroke this down the middle 180m" and then I actually STAY STILL and let the club take the long shallow path home to contact and beyond then I can easily get it to roll out to 230 - 250m. (ok to crack 250m I need wind assistance, but I am very short hitter anyway). Just try half and 3/4 swings at the range - dead still with body until contact. Even start with 1/4 swings and try to hold still after contact to get the feel.
      People get caught up on the pedantics around Jim's swing. Sure there is a shifting of weight - but you just don't do it consciously . If the club ends up on the left of body in the end of the swing, and you are standing on your left leg with your right leg up on its toe with zero weight on it, then the laws of nature tell you that there is now more weight on the left side (say 100%), than there was at the beginning (even if it was 90%). But don't even think about that, that is an effect!
      Learn Jim's setup (see previous comment). Set your weight 60-70-80-90% (the most you feel comfortable with) on your left side in the setup, focus on staying still until just after contact (achieve that to a lesser or greater extent - true stillness is very hard, but the focus on it is achievable) and then whatever happens to your weight (and the club) after that, will happen (and not matter much anyway). Just DON'T try to load up weight on your right and then transfer it to your left.
      Think about this. If a club head is moving (SWINGING) between 110kmh - 145kmh (80mph - 90mph - for normal mortals) and you shift your weight through, lets be generous and say you athletically move (or even pivot) 30cm or 1 ft in the 1 second of the swing (again generously fast swing time), then you are adding 1kmh or 0.7mph to the speed of club. Not much reward for an enormous amount of variables and increased chance of stuffing up.
      Sure Bryson and the long drivers (like Kyle B) use weight shift. But they are trying to generate rather abnormal head speeds - but still 99% of their speed is in the swing not the weight transfer. And I reckon it is almost a mental trigger for them for the swing and using ground force to help the upper body initiate the swing. But look at Kyle's 8 irons (200yds) in this video his weight at impact is on the left, his shoulders are closed - czcams.com/users/clipUgkx9_oRCE26kS0m7sfXutKowDvKyRi6SJTr
      It's Jim setup. He has practised getting back to it as only a pro athlete can - over and over and over again. (note: Kyle and Bryson's driver swing are another world, but I reckon we are not really looking for that).
      I don't know what speed you can get without shift (guessing Jim is probably 115mph+) but when you get to that, then maybe worry about adding the weight shift (or not).
      Anyway Jon - ignore my drivel and get it straight from Jim - he knows what he is talking about.
      Stay still friends :-)

Been a high 80, low ninety player for years - joined Jim's Academy - 2 under 80 rounds last year and one scratch round 5 birdies, 5 bogies. I could just watch something being done, and go do it with success. I played wome golf when I was in my teens and could it the ball very far. Then I tried taking up the sport in my late 20s with little success. I sliced it like crazy. I stopped playing because of that. I watched a couple of videos about grip, and it helped alot. I'm saying all of this because when I fixed my grip, my body took over. I naturally starting doing what you are saying without thinking about it. My body is working together, and I'm hitting starter and more accurate shouts than I did when I was 27. I played a round last week and hit multiple drives on par 4 and 5s from 250 to 280. I did exaggerate the stance today and will continue to hone it in all week. I'm super impressed and sooooo jazzed about it! If this was my result from one of your videos, then I can't wait to check out your training website! Thank you for sharing this great insight!

    I'll add this about keeping your weight on your left side (Right Handers). It keeps your shoulder from lifting , a killer of the swing.

    Hi Jim, new to your teaching, it seems so many teachers are emphasizing the flexion / extension in the wrists, should that be a focus in your system? I must say l"m hitting the ball so much better by keeping my weight left as you say. BTW Davis Love says his all time fav drill is all the weight on the left foot & right toe which says a lot about your ideas..

    Been a member for a few months and have been practicing in a simulator. I am finally able to hit outside at the range. It's nice to see the actual ball flight, which is a draw! On the backswing and downswing, am I just using my left arm and hand to move the club, and the right side is supportive? More grip pressure in left hand than the right?

    • @jimvenetosgolf
      @jimvenetosgolf  Před 4 lety +3

      As you are learning in the school, the movements of the swing are taken care of by your set up and it is CRUCIAL that you ignore your hands and arms so that they can do what the set up intends for them. It is also crucial that you just focus on keeping your weight still during the swing so, if you focus on your arms or hands, then you can't focus on keeping your weight still. Try to be a silent witness to stillness and trust that your movements in the swing are controlled by your set up...then those draws will be consistent, powerful and easy to produce.

    Seems to me that your recommended swing mechanics would be optimized by having a right-handed golfer switch to becoming a left-handed golfer, thereby enabling his strong side/lead side to utilize the benefit of his dominant side.

    • @jimvenetosgolf
      @jimvenetosgolf  Před 4 lety

    • @chriswinslow5260
      @chriswinslow5260 Před 3 lety +1

      @tmacphd - then you would have to switch all these mechanics 180 degrees and now you would be a right handed golfer with your right arm being the lead arm. His whole point is lead arm and trailing arm, not left and right arm. He even says it about 2/3 of the way thru the vid. Long ago I figured out I was too right side dominant. So once or more a week i hit a bucket or two left handed only (I'm a 'right handed' golfer so those buckets are being hit are being hit 'lead handed' not left handed.

      Bobby jones, won 13 majors by the age of 28, then retired. He absolutely said the lead arm controls the shot back and through, the right hand is there for the impact . He said the golf swing was like a trotter horse, always straining to run but can't, that is your trail arm, holding it off until impact.

    I agree with everything he said initially. And I can imagine this would improve ballstriking for the majority of club golfers out there. But for those who want to get really good, wouldn't it be beneficial to shift the weight/pressure in order to create a bigger swing arc and incorporate the body more for additional power? The weight transfer back to the left happens in the transition. You don't throw a ball without transferring the weight to your right foot and then back again to the left, it's very weak if you stay on your left side and attempt to throw. It's the same in many other sports. I know it produces accuracy doing it like this because I keep the weight left on shorter pitch shots because there is not enough time to transfer the weight and pressure into the ground with the left leg on the downswing. But these are short shots.

    • @jimvenetosgolf
      @jimvenetosgolf  Před 3 lety

      The traditional swing has endless variations of movements relative to a neutral set up. My swing is based upon presetting the movements in the set up and then holding your weight still and shoulders closed through impact so that you can secure a shallow, circular and descending swing path. I can show you multiple versions of the traditional swing but if you want to learn my swing, I suggest signing up for my school. My yt videos aren't meant to be comprehensive instructional content.
