Metal Slug 5 is perhaps the only non SNK developed Metal Slug title I'd recommend to anyone, albeit only half heartedly. It lacks the bland, spiteful level design of 4 and 7, yet at the same time looks and feels like the fast paced arcade game the original SNK developed titles have. The soundtrack in Metal Slug 5 is by far and away its best feature, as it's something so far departed stylistically from what the original developers could have done, yet it fits the theme and style of the game so ridiculously well.
Unfortunately, Metal Slug 5 is quite infamously an unfinished game, as any time spent on sites digging up the heaps of unused content will tell you. I can't imagine how much better Metal Slug 5 could've been had it actually been finished, but at the same time, I wonder if I only enjoy the game so much because the level designers didn't have the time to put in all the bullshit elements they wanted to. Metal Slug 5 is by far the shortest Metal Slug game in average clear time, yet it is one of the most difficult in the series for me to one life clear because ALL of the bosses after the first are entirely luck based, RNG dependent crap. Each boss also spends an eternity off screen where they can attack you safely, which I find is complete horse shit. The game is also horrendously untested for 2 players. But, despite these glaring flaws, I would still take it over any other SNKP developed titles, which should perhaps go some way in telling you how much I dislike anything after Metal Slug 3.
Oh, and fuck the Sandmarine. - Hry
That sandmarine boss is always in the way of me completing this game without dying...
I was about to do drugs before watching some pro-Metal Slug plays, luckily William Sessions stopped me from doing so.
Extra points for doing it with blood activated, I was sick of watching Metal Slug gameplays on level 4 with "milk"

When I play this game I usually just bash all of my keys...
I wonder if they remade MS 5 to MS triple-X maybe they can actually fit in the unfinished content into the game.
how do you cancel the melee attack animation of the slug gunner in some parts??
I don't think you can cancel the melee attack once it starts; you can only cancel the... uh... shell emptying animation after the attack. That animation isn't enforced at all, so literally doing anything cancels the emptying animation.
Can u make it in one try or does it take many retries? Amazing nevertheless
It actually takes several months of retrying, because Metal Slug is too unforgiving as a game to one life clear. The problem with Metal Slug 5 specifically is that bosses 2-5 are all RNG, and sometimes you're just screwed and have to restart. The runs you see are the lucky ones, or maybe I'm just not that good compared to others.

@@XSquareS Ty very much for the reply, and I can totally understand, the game itself requires a lot of practice so I can see u trying different runs. Still to be able to do a one life run I can definitely say you one of the best :3
I beat a level in metal slug 2 without dying,but the rest I can't even beat without dying
I want to see what scyther in ms new game is like, because unlike ms5, it will be fully finished
I love Metal Slug 5 but sadly this game is lacking of prisoners especially in Mission 2 (7) & Final Mission (only 5), you need 10 prisoners to get it "GREAT" the lowest prisoner rescue in all Metal slug games with overall 62.
Also Metal Slug 5 Is kinda rushed finished especially the mask soldier (ptolemaios) is omitted in the final mission and absence of Flame Shot

Stinks this game was stupidly rushed to death like Super Turrican, quite ashame too as the game would've been better if they had more time to implement more things that were cut into the game.

I think that was a bug
It's a glitch you can activate by hitting the Elephant Towers in its trunk swinging phase with the flame of your grenade. Alternatively, if in 2P, the other player can hit the Elephant Towers with the flames from the Super Grenade or Rocket Launcher from earlier in the stage to trigger the same bug. I'm not sure what causes the bug, but it consistently works every time.
