Loved hearing Dave Marcis get a shout out. Those wingtips were wheeling a racecar all the way through 2001. His last race was the 2002 Daytona 500. Wendell Scott was amazing. That never give up attitude is inspiring.
If i remember this was the very 1st NASCAR race that was shown on TV flag-to-flag. Up until that point they'd usually have half hour or hour long timeslots that showed highlights from races but never the full race. It wasn't aired live though, i think it was a 2-hour timeslot on the day after the race was held.
You are correct sir. Big bill france told the drivers to make this race fit in air time available or they wouldn't make another race the rest of the season, NO matter how fast they were.
Seems like yesterday i was watching this on tv. i just talked about this on Talkin'Racin' with Mike Ray fb ipod/ internet radio show with David Richmond...
Because someone has to own the footage to upload it. People have not uploaded the races or they have been lost to time. 1977 races might exist on Betamax that someone taped if you are lucky.
They actually set that car up to do that. Richard was the master of flat short tracks, the mopar actually had torsion bar front suspension (stock) which owned Martinsville speedway with that set up, it rolled the weight shift over on the right front on entry and to the right rear on exit. The problem was the long straight aways and tight corners at this track wasn't as effective as at long sweeping turns such as Martinsville speedway.
This is the kind of race NASCAR needs to look at for the 2021 schedule. Run 100 to 200 laps at Bristol, Martinsville, Bowman Gray, Hickory, etc. on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. Keep it to no more than 2 hours total TV time, from pre-race to checkered flag to keep the attention span deficit millenials tune in.
Keep dreaming, NASCAR is determined to destroy everything that made it what it was, i say was because year after year it's become almost unrecognizable and they totally ignore thier roots, the tracks you mentioned unfortunately if it were not for the locals keeping them going they would fade into history like North Wilksboro and Rockingham. I live 30 min from the Rock and it almost brings me to tears every time i drive by it. They've taken all the HP from the cars they have all these rediculous rules and stage racing and etc etc. This is coming from a life long fan and someone who used to race locally himself and it breaks my heart to say these things, i can't even find a driver to pull for anymore there all spoiled kids who are cold fish with no personality, it's too steril and the racing sucks since they took all the HP in 2016. But we can dream.
Well now I know next time some old guy tells me “racing was better when the cars were still stock!” that they’re full of it. Still cool to watch this piece of history but this was a boring race.
So you are the expert, and you think that "some old guys" statement is 100% incorrect based solely on your extensive research of one and ONLY ONE 100 mile race out of the hundreds and probably several thousands of Nascar races ran during the era the "some old guys" spoke of ?????
Those old adverts are a treat to watch.
My grandfather brought me with him to this race, when I was 12. This brought back wonderful memories of that time and this track.
Can you imagine the amount of cheated up stuff in this field? Glad to finally see the track I've heard so much about!

I live in Greenville. Im not real far from the track. I miss the racing there.

What a treat this is thank you!
Bobby Isaac was a great driver on both dirt and asphalt. He was always my favorite during the late sixties and through his retirement.

MY HOME TRACK LETS GOOOO
This is amazing! How do you find these old races?
The big speedway races have their appeal but it's hard not to love a trip down memory lane on a 3rd mile track with full size stock cars
These commercials are the best 🤣🤣🤣
Aren't they though!! I was 3yrs old 😆
Ken Squier as a pit reporter for ABC. Interesting.
Everybody starts somewhere but he was definitely better than Chris Economacki!
@tnwhiskey68 they are two of the best in the business. Hard to say who's better.
Notice at one end of the track, there's a telephone pole with no inside fence or wall.
WOW!
My dad races here it has changed so much since then
Wow look at the jump on turn one inside no gaurd rail lol
32:50.... You should always be nice to your employees.
Good ol' stuff.
Penny Marshall in a Hertz commercial!
And Don Adams.
1:08:49 spoiler, a soldier named Forest Gump wins that match!
Nice Pearson Torino Hardtop
In 1971 Benny Parsons didn't look like a Cab Driver!!
I wonder-
Why are most 1970-1971 era telecasts available on CZcams, but very few, if any, from 1972-1977?
Google 72-77 future time traveler conspiracy! There's video evidence they're trying to keep off the internet

1430 dollars for first place
Snoozer. I am wondering if my great memories of early nascar are valid.
You are probably one of the fans who cheers when they see a wreck.
Swirvin Irvan no he’s probably one of the fans that likes to see more than one competitive car on the track at a time.
Petty's spring setup is completely botched, wow. The front just leans every corner. That is unfortunate.

What was that he called Wendell Scott?
What would happen if an announcer called Bubba Squall-As$ on a broadcast today? Nascar would turn Bubba noose.........I mean loose.

I’d love to see cars bigger than the k&n cars come to bowman, but it’s hard to put on a show at this small of a track
@@patrickharper9297 Could not be any worse than the Busch Clash at the LA Coliseum.
You know millennials are from the 80s right? I'm 36 I was a fan since 1990 but nice try.
@@gorelordzskate-racing-videos And how many live races have you attended? I was attending races in person when you were still crapping in your pants.

It's a small race on a short track what do you expect?
