  • Bulky but powerful, still need to work on durable solution for cutting. There is enough force to cut but i'm worried about long term use.

    Hello, nice work man, i am interested in making my own 3 to 6mm wire bending machine, would you like to give me some tips to learn from your experience, what is the best mechanism for cutting air cylinder or servos, what are the forces needed to bend the steel wire those kind of informations.

    Would a 1kw servo with a 15:1 reduction gearbox provide enough force to shear 6mm rod?

      As i wrote in other video, It depends ... on Your machine geometry; material tensile strength; type of cutting; etc. It's not easy to say. Make calculations.

      @@maciejmajewski4312 Stepper is generating 7.5Nm at the rpm i am running. So 15:1 gearbox is generating 112.5Nm. Maximum distance of CAM is 33mm from shaft centre. So force generated is 3400N. Still not cutting 3mm wire. I think tensile strength of my wire might be high or my motor is not generating enough torque.

    What is the power of the servo motors? Does the pneumatics cut the wire or the motor?

      I'm working on Mach3 so it's needed to do it witch GCode. I've made simple program to change table of moves to GCode. You can see it on one of my last movies.

    Cutting is not an issue with an eccentric cam, roller and lever as with the Wafios.

      That's true. But there is always something. Believe me :)
      In my design i need to have "large" stroke (3 x wire diam). That require lot of Nm from motor or relatively big ratio on gearbox and that reduce speed. Second thing is max load on gearbox output shaft. Bigger and stronger gearbox = more space and kg to turn around. All these thing require more $$ :) When're buying Wafios You spend them a lot. My machines with raw material on them (I suppose) cost same money as Wafios wire decoiler :D

      @@maciejmajewski4312 Hi Maciej, thanks, I didnt expect a quick reply. 3x wire diameter cutting stroke can still be overcome with a cam with approach distance using fast part of the cam then only the final cut using the portion of cam with maximum mechanical advantage. Gearbox side load can be removed by using a coupler to a separate pinion shaft supported by its own bearings. My experience is I have made High speed Welded Mesh making machines here in the UK.
