Hey Tee, I agree with the other subscriber. Try a portable AC it runs about three to four hundred dollars, and all the pieces that comes in the box fits all shapes and sizes of windows. So you guys should be fine. I pray that you all get some relief because the he ain't no joke. I have a portable AC unit as well.
I had the same problem at my old apartment where the windows opens vertical. I had to buy a vertical air conditioner to fit in the window. They run between 500 and 700 but sometimes you can find them on marketplace used. Your other option is to put that air conditioner back in the window in the kitchen and then take a piece of plywood and put some foam around it so that it's closed up. If you have normal windows in your bedroom and your son's bedroom, maybe consider getting an air conditioner for each bedroom and leaving the doors open and that should cool the rest of the house down as well. I know what you're going through because I grew up on a farm and in our farm home we had no air conditioning. Blessings🙏🎈
Try a portable AC❤. They're more expensive though. It's a long piece that goes in the window, but the AC actually goes on the floor. I pray you get some relief soon🙏🏽

I see you have an attic fan in your ceiling it’s used to pull cool air in especially at night to cool your home. They’re sort of loud but it was a life saver for me and my family. You should have a switch on the wall. Try it out!!!! The attic fan was put in older homes and apartments that came with only central heat. Find the switch in the hall and try it out
In addition to the fans, you may want to get Damp Rid to help with moisture/humidity in the apartment; I bought some at Walmart (if you go to Home Depot or Lowes you can get a time- released tub). Hope you have a lovely vacation.
