Jerry West Claps Back at JJ Redick For Disrespecting Bob Cousy & Older NBA Players | SiriusXM
• Jerry West Claps Back ... - Zábava
Came back to see Jerry give JJ that smoke. RIP Mr. West.
The reason they were plumbers and fireman was because they didn't make millions of dollars by averaging 12 points a game like some of today's NBA players.
They have more money now
@@tonyonit haha you catch on quick!
@@tonyonit b/c of the contributions from the pioneers
You can't really compare the money considering the popularity of the NBA was miniscule in comparison to today. Jerry isn't wrong about there being elite players in the 60s but JJ is still right lol.
JJ Redick averages 70 in Jerry West's era
“What did he do that determined games?” Lol. I love that question.
At some point in time the numbers count.
In my era, I was an Athlete way before my time. Talk that talk Jerry. The logo.
He's an original gangster in those NBA streets and JJ don't want no smoke
😂
that was the killshot.
Averaged 12 pts per game lol. Hes like another guy in the photo when greats are in pics
Notice how elite players like Mike, Lebron, Kobe, would never diss the legends like this. It’s always the role players or the internet trolls making these arguments
Well said.
🙏🏾 from the Gods.
Absolutely right on the money. Magic and Bird saved the NBA, and Jordan took it from there. If it wasn't for those three players there wouldn't be an NBA now. Give respect to the people that came before you.
What you said goes for a lot of people. All these fans & media personal who never did anything. Speaking on top level pros & making comparisons.
Basketball is the only sport where fans actively hate their OG Legends. In Futbol we respect Cruyff, Beckenbauer, George Best. In boxing we respect Ali, Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard. In tennis we respect Sampras and Agassi. Sure there are stupid kids that disrespect Pele, but for the most part we recognize that we are standing on the shoulders of giants.
Looks damn good for 84... still has his mental faculties.
Yeah he looks so healthy and youthful
Yes and that's so important and a blessing
Cousy is 94 and still has his mental faculties
and his hair!
Mental can last 200 or more years. Body requires more maintenance
Jerry West is arguably the greatest judges of talent in the NBA history. Having built two Laker dynasties; head coached and was an elite player who as a youngster watched and later played with guys in that era.
So if he tells you he could run and jump as fast as anyone today or that those era guys were good , I believe him.
And he can judge Bob Cousy and JJ Reddick.
Didn't he draft Steph and Klay, too?
@@caladanrude6395 He drafted Klay and Draymond. Also, he threatened Golden State that he will leave if they traded Klay for Kevin Love (I think back in 2014, there were talks of Klay being traded for Love)
He could dunk, although I don’t know if he ever did in a game. Most guards didn’t dunk in those days.
Who’s here after he died? Rest in peace legend
Only Jesus, I guess. Actually, no.
😂😂😂😂😂 Tell me what his career looked like’ That comment had killed me…
Didn't expect pops to say that lol
For his career, Jerry West averaged 27 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game, while being one of the league's best defenders and competitors. He knows of what he speaks. Disrespecting Bob Cousy, who literally changed the way the game was played, is silly.
JJ Redick would average 40 in West’s era, dont even lie
@@ianz9106 😂😂😂😂
@@ianz9106 He wouldn’t even start. No 3pt line the only thing he’s good at. He’d be a watered down version of a watered down Gail Goodrich.
@@ianz9106 He can't even average 40 in his era with no defense and just shooting mostly 3's which is all he does. I don't even think new players know what defense is or how to really play it since the league has went so far from being able to be aggressive. They're afraid of defense because of easy foul calls for bullshit.
@@ebogar42 Redick is good. Career average 13 ppg. West averaged 27 with no 3 point line. West could also drive and finish or dish. Also one of the league's best defenders and a very effective rebounder. He was a much better player.
Rest in peace logo you were one of the best ever. Respect every era of the NBA. Fuck JJ Redick
Love all your sentiments, especially the last lol
RIP to the legendary Jerry West. Jordan wanted to play you 1v1, and you brought my generation Kobe.
You really believe that lie?lol. You know Jordan just said that for PR. Jordan would want to play Bill Russell the man who should have been the lego for beating West repeatedly and stacking up rings.
@@donmacmilly why would Jordan lie? Russell was a phenomenal defender, but offensively was poor, 15 pts and 44% shooter with no moves, on WAY better teams. West was incredible, one of the first legit outside shooters, had solid ball handling, pull up jumper, 27 pts and 47% average at only 6'3" in physical era, and played great defense, steals weren't recorded early in his career, no 3s either but West was great at both and Jordan took that aggressive style above the rim to crazy levels.
I always loved his response to this. May he rest in peace
“Tell me what his career looked like”😮😮😮😮
Avg NBA salary in 1970 was 35k, which equates to about 270k today! The avg NBA salary in 2022 was almost $10 million! We can't compare eras! It's not even fair! They had no private jets, state-of-the-art practice facilities, nutritionists, 10 different specialized coaches, social media, etc! I'm sure many of the hotels they stayed in were dumps compared to the hotels today. Many worked regular jobs in the off-season, etc. Never disrespect elders who paved the way! Jerry was as tough and determined as they come. He broke his nose a couple of times in games and played through it! He didn't have the 3 pt shot, so imagine how many more points he would have scored. He used to walk home from school and dribble a basketball with both hands all the way home! Kevin McHale practiced on an old country, make-shift rim. Larry Bird won 3 titles. The Celtics without Bird would have never won those 3. It wasn't his 3 pt pct! It was his incredible court vision, his assists, rebounds, intelligent plays, one step ahead. The '88 playoffs against the Hawks. The old Boston Garden was a sauna! The AC really never worked! Robert Parish lost 11 lbs in one playoff game against the Lakers. Players were being administered oxygen. JJ had way, way, way more advantages thanks to the founding fathers of the NBA. He should thank Larry Bird, Bob Cousy, Wilt, Jerry, Russell, Kareem, etc. Kareem used to play through migraine headaches! Players respected their head coaches back then. They didn't have the workout & recovery facilities like today....
It was probabiy smaller salary thab that when Jerry west played
Actually, Jerry West broke his nose 9 times, had it completely reconstructed after he retired
RIP to JJ. The Logo out here catching bodies still. Dam
Rest in Peace, logo.
That's the jerry west from winning time
Yes agree, West kept it together knowing the cameras were on him lol
The Logo
@@imrandhalla8336 I hope y'all know JW isn't actually like that. They took a lot of liberty with that character portrayal.
@@robk6831of course they don’t realize it. Because they can’t tell fact from fiction, even tho everyone who was there has said winning time was complete fiction.
@@robk6831 Well I doubt Jerry Buss acted anything like John C Riley
Damn Mr. West you didn’t need to go “Ether” on JJ “plumber of this generation” Redick!
Jerry West is 100% spot on with everything he said. He's also 10x the player J.J. Redick was and would be elite in today's game given his skill-set. West also arguably has the smartest basketball mind the game has ever seen.
West would not be elite in todays game. Stop it
West wouldnt be able to play in the g-league today. Cant dribble or shoot as well as current nba players
@Fredrick Frederickson jerry west dribbled slow af, hunched over, and really only dribbled with his right hand. He also took a majority of his shots right next to the hoop against worse defenders so of course he shot a high percentage.
@Fredrick Frederickson If you have to hunch over and only dribble with your right hand in order to not get the ball stolen you’re not a great ball handler by todays standards. Also the perimeter defenders in today’s NBA are way better than they were in the 60’s. taking an elbow jumper does not make you a distance sharpshooter.
@Fredrick Frederickson lol in that timestamp he literally just backs down a defender from half court with his back turned to the basket, once again hunched over, using basically just his right hand, until he gets a foul call where nobody touches him in an era that supposedly had actually defense and was way more physical. What is impressive with his dribbling there?
Jerry would drop 40 on JJ easily and was a great defender
Are you on drugs?
@@makogearsolid8002 Are you? I guess you don’t know how good Jerry West was he was a great shooter and played great defense. It’s okay you probably never saw him play so you’re clueless 🤡
When an icon of the game who also happens to be on, the NBA logo, tells it like it is about points matter, working in the summer to feed his family, and how disrespectful JJ was to Bob Cousy, another legend and icon in the game speaks volumes. Personally, I’ve learned you can tell how somebody feels about their own sense of self-worth and how they treat other people so I guess JJ has some work to do
Cousy brought an unprecedented level of anticipation, creativity and court vision to the point guard position. He invented an style play that was flashy, deceptive, and entertaining, yet unselfish...furthermore he actually used it to win championships. The ability to innovate and out-think your opponent at the highest level translates in any era. You can certainly state that he wasn't as good of an outside shooter as today's guards. given that shot techniques have evolved over the years and outside shooting is more emphasized/prioritized today, but that is not what made him an all-time great in the first place. As for dribbling, any serious fan over 45 should recognize that today's dribbling technique would largely be whistled as a violation in the years B.I. (Before Iverson). So you can't even begin to compare ball handling skills between today's stars and the stars of the past.
Word!
Actually, looking at some Jerry West Highlights yesterday I was thinking much the same thing. Not that it's news of any sort that today's players travel and carry like never before, what struck me was how similar every other aspect of Jerry West's game was to today's players.
His shooting movement, effortless and graceful... the only thing that stuck out was the dribbling, which of course, he did with his hand over the ball and not on the side and surely never under it.
I accept that some leeway can be given in the dribble side of things, otherwise how would we have gotten A.I. or K.B.B... but today's dribbing is completely out to lunch.
Cousy was point guard 1.0.
@@pmfsv Thank you! It bothers me when youngsters criticize the handles of players in older eras. They seem to have no idea how different the rules were back then. Today's players would be whistled almost as soon as they touched the ball.
JJ needs to understand who buttered his bread. Yes, the average NBA player is better now. But they are better now because West and everyone before, paved the way. Just appreciate each era lol
ok, vut to say bob cousy is a better basketball player than cp3 is insane. respect the older guys, but also respectfully know they are not as good
@@oggouz he said more transcendent which Cousy was
I don't see how you can appreciate the 60's the 60's was just terrible only good thing about it is Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Jerry West and Oscar Robertson lmao 4 good players and the rest were just shit
@@footy743clearly you don’t know bob Cousy
@@footy743 This statement is just dumb
Jerry West is one of the few legends who has so much clout when it comes to this convo.
George Mikan was in the league when he was a young player, West played against guys like Bill Russell, he played during the 70’s, he helped build showtime LA as a GM, he saw Bird play, he saw MJ play, he signed Shaq, he traded for Kobe, he saw LeBron play, he’s seen Giannis-Luka-Jokic. He’s still working in basketball even now.
Jerry West is the stalwart of the NBA. He has always been around since the beginning
I agree; JJ must respect the older generations without them there are no curry, morant, etc
Mamour113 I agree to that JJ needs to respect the OGs
Redick is one of the most ONE DIMENSIONAL and BORING players I've ever seen play. Cousy showcased more impact, heart and talent despite being from a distant era. Redick has no business talking basketball when he has no respect for it's early years and pioneers. Cousy helped grow the sport so that spoiled nobodies like Redick could play.
why do we even Mention JJ Redick, his opinion is as important as the towel guys. no disrespect to those guys.
RIP to a true legend of the game of basketball
RIP Mr. Clutch
The great Jerry West he could play in any era and be a superstar Best clutch shooter I have ever seen.
I guess you didn't see Larry Bird.
Redick was right! Players back then didn't have hipster personal trainers in skinny jeans and sleeve tattoos who told them to power dribble for 30 seconds. HUGE disadvantage.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
JJ reddick needs to understand that if he played back then in the NBA, and hade to be a "plumber" or whatever job. He would hate basketball. Those old school guys didn't know basketball was gonna be as big as it is today, they got work done and played ball because they loved it. Didn't matter if they had a side job, even a family, or other goals. They made time to ball up, paid or not. JJ would hate basketball if he was paid anything less than a million.
this never gets old....lol
Literally JJ's most significant moment. HAHAHAHA!!!! Will never get old.
Jerry West is absolutely right here.
I have no Respect this kind of player that they want to act like they know it all .but the Producers are part of this behavior allowing this to show lock of Respect.it takes a lot to have Legendary Player like Jerry West to come forward and protect the integrity of the old school NBA that this era NBA would never ever be better.my Respect to you Mr. West .
I don't think you understand the context.
I agree Eduardo.
It ain't that serious bro, because JJ is a nice guy that usually have excellent takes on most basketball related subjects, but not this time..
@@jasonallen3678 but he’s become exactly what he hates the most. The “analysts in tv” who just says whatever comes to their mind. Bro criticized them so much and he’s one of those idiots saying the dumbest shit ever.

Rest in peace Jerry. Say hello to Bill and Wilt for us.
RIP To The LOGO!!!!!
Jj is a modern day plumber 😂😂
only in the sense that every time he gets down to work, he shows his ass.
JJ is more of a Cabana Boy or Bathroom Attendant
Today's plumbers are youtubers and actors. How dare they work outside the NBA!
Except he probably can’t spin a wrench 🔧.
Greats respect greats. Kobe, Jordan, they respected those who came before and by doing so, they became great as well. I follow their mentality and approach to the game. Rather than give credibility to some of these has-been role players stinking up the joint with there ill-informed click-bait takes.
I'm here today posting this on June 12, 2024 because Jerry West passes away in his sleep this morning. The accolades are pouring in from everywhere.
Great executive. Even greater player. Even greater human being.
RIP TO THE LOGO
My favorite time watching the NBA was watch those players I grew up with. The Wests, Baylors, Robertsons, etc. Too many to mention here, but I looked forward to see them on TV or at the Cleveland Arena.
RIP Jerry West
The logo ate with this one
reddick is a bum trying to get attention by insulting his betters. RIP logo.
“Tell me what his career looked like? What… he averaged like 12 pts a game….?” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Rip goat
Firemen and plumbers play great defense. You will feel every hit.
Damn thinking about Jerry west having to work a summer job to get by is crazy.
Its funny that people think people in the 60’s and 70’s weren’t shooting from deep pretty much at all but, there definitely were in Pistol Pete Maravich and Elgin Baylor to name a few.
This was a time before the three point line was even created.
I knew it was about to go down when I saw Mr. West's left hand shaking.
Jerry West is the greatest basketball mind in the history of the NBA.
I’m old enough to remember watching Jerry play. I was pretty young but I remember him. Also remember seeing Bill Russel. I haven’t watched NBA since the Magic and Larry years.
A true legend and gentleman. And he is 100% on the money here, and expressed himself respectfully. RIP, the great Jerry West.
JJ the ringless bum was the plumber and firemen of his era. He has no awareness whatsoever
JJ who?
JJ Redickulous
Anyone else catch him saying AJ instead of JJ at the end? #savage
No because JJ is a nobody and there IS NO respect on his name.
Jerry west is one of the best player to play the game. He also played with some off the best like Elgin Baylor, John Havlicek, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell,Oscar Robinson Nate Thurmond, just to name a few
Jerry west took the high road and didn’t roast JJ, rather he just stated facts and asked an honest question? “What did he do to determine games?” Lol
Maybe West should have let it rip. The more JJ talks.. the more he shows himself to be a Punk/Ass. Pete Marovich played in West/era .. and Pete STILL owns the NCAA career points/scored record with an average of 44pts/game and 3667 pts/total in college... with No 3 point line to help... 44pts is almost 4x the average points Riddick scored. Shoulda been more skilled Mr. Punk Ass.
Jerry West was so effing good. He good do it all, a true leader, and had the same drive that Jordan did. Go look at the photo of him after the Lakers lost in the finals to the Celtics in 1969. His heart was ripped out. Nothing but respect for one of the Top 25 players ever.
Bob & Jerry are elites.
When I was a kid in the 60's I collected sports cards. They always listed the player's off-season job. Some were farmers, some construction workers, some factory workers. Try to find that now.
We had to work in the summers to support our families.🌌🕊️🌌
If you can make a 117 year old Jerry West cringe you must have said something to offend the man
It’s not hard to make a nostalgic old man grumpy
@@rafikz77 It's not nostalgia to speak the truth. West was correct in what he said if you actually listen to him.
Not really. West has nothing to prove. He just had a hard time trying to figure out how a journeyman who averaged 12 points a game can disrespect a hall of fame point guard.
So arrogant🤣
@@rafikz77 Honestly, casuals like yourself shouldn't even be allowed to voice your opinion. Jerry West is one of the greatest NBA players of all time, and has done more for the NBA than ANYONE else, period.
Rest In Peace Mr. West. Say hello to all of the NBA legends and Hall of Famers especially Mr. Russell and Mr. Chamberlain for us.🙏🙏🙏
I love this!
I agree what the legendary Jerry West is saying JJ Redick was a good player but he needs to do his research not to disrespect the OGs of the NBA they were the ones that paved the way for the NBA if it wasn't for them none of these dudes of today would be here today
JJ finally found a platform where people care more about him then when he was on the court. He’s just enjoying a bigger spotlight than he never had during his playing career
Imagine the points if we would have had that 3 point line.
You know pretty much everything Newton knows, doesn’t make you a better scientist.
Wilt in his prime would of ran Shaq to death and in his last ever playoff series at almost age 37 Wilt played all 240 minutes in the 5 game finals against the Knicks.
Willis Reed was on borrowed time with his knees but stepped up in games 3 to 5 against Wilt scoring 61 points, 33 rebounds, and 10 assists in only 96 minutes shooting 54%. We didn't see the .363% shooting by Ewing in the 1994 finals against Hakeem who shot 50% and averaged 27 against Ewing the GAG man!
I will take a 5 man squad of West and Robertson at guards and Russell (usually center but put him at forward here) Wilt and Baylor against any five at any time. People don’t realize the talent there. The average height of a player was 6’11” at center today and 6’11” then. They played against each other more. The league wasn’t diluted. Give them the same training equipment nutrition and travel as today it would be mind boggling how good those guys would be. Wilt and Russell set track and field records in college and HS. The idiocy of the average NBA fan today about the history of the game is off the charts ignorant. Go drop any of those 5 guys on the search engine of You Tube and get a clue.
There were more talented big men in that era than it is today, yet fans want to rip Wilt for playing against inferior competition. He would make Draymond Green his bitch....
JJ was saying that the older era players shouldn't be compared to modern ones because couldn't focus solely on basketball and had other careers. I don't know that West and JJ even disagree on this point. The supposed slight was taken out of context. Bringing up the low salary and that they had other jobs and poor facilities is exactly the point. You can't compare guys from that era one-to-one with guys from the past 40 years. It's also not relevant to bring up JJ's stats because he wasn't putting himself above anyone. West and Cousey are just overly defensive.
Why I don't want JJ as Lakers coach.
as a fan of 45 years, it would be a lowlife move
Love Jerry West. Left it all on the floor every damn time. The definition of "competitor".
I would never say anything about the old school era , just think that they played a season & after that , they had to get a job so they could barely work on they game
The problem with that is that today's players ain't got no fundamentals, comparatively. The older guys far exceeded today's players in fundamentals .
Jerry West and Bob Cousey would've taken JJs lunch everyday had they played in the same Era. JJ Redick doesn't even make the top 500 players ever. So there's always that.
WTF?? He certainly does
